❤hi. I just found you in my thread while checking out Makin braided rugs and I am blown away by your creativity and a fearless attitude. I will be checking out more of you videos so thank you for your inspiration.
Thank you!! This is the First video that answered my question about needles for making rope bowls! Now, I know to go get 100/16 Leather needles. Now, I also notice you said topstitching thread. Thanks Christopher! This helps a Lot
Your videos are always so clear and you get up close to the actual sewing being done so we can really see. I really appreciate that, Christopher. You truly are a master at the machine and with the camera. Thank you.
Harbor Freight has yielded many many sewing room items and supplies! Yesss! Pick up items for future projects from where ever you are shopping! Keep a note book or notate in your phone the future project you have in mind. That diamond stitch is one of my favorite decorative stitches! Love your adventurous stitching! Great video!
Great instruction, tips, knowledge- all makes a difference - love your video- ill watch again-what needle, thread- rope- everything- love what you done! Thanks!
Christopher, I just re-watched this video for reference. I made this bowl with pastel coloured threads and then made straps with three lengths of rope and sewed them onto the bowl to make Easter Baskets. I am now inspired to make some smaller ones using thread colours of the LGB flag to give as gifts as PRIDE month approaches.
Regarding starching your bowl to make firm, etc. can I suggest you use a weak solution of PVA Wood adhesive (the white stuff you let down with water) . Called this in the UK. It will dry clear, a little shiny, waterproof it, and make rigid. Great video, thank you.
I do everything w decorative stitches. I can't free motion except on small projects & there's only so much boredom you can take w straight stitch walking foot. I had a Janome 4900 w 500+ stitches after a TOL VIKING (960?) a step down from the 1100. My Viking gave out & the Janome went wacko in 10 months time & the dealer was just a crook & nobody seemed to know how to fix either machine. I got a Singer 9960 w 600+ stitches wh was an awesome machine but I wore it out quilting w all the decorative stitches. Everybody was in awe of my quilted work bc NOT using the decorative stitches seems to have been traditional. Well, I don't do YT vids, too busy creating so I guess you are king of the first timer decorative stitches for quilting on YT. BTW, I now have a BIG Babylock Jazz 2 wo only 28 stitches but it has 12" needle to tower; and I have an Eversewn X2 sew/emb machine w @130 decorative & utility stitches + a bunch of built in emb stitches. (Great deals if you buy from an electronics store vs sew store.) Th
I'm so glad I came across this video. Here is someone who's using the exact same sewing machine and showing how to do the Rope bowls. Your videos have been inspiring to me and I am definitely subscribing for more content thank you
Absolutely fantastic. I’ve had several large spools of variegated thread for ages and bought the biggest spool of cotton rope before Christmas. Just finished making sliced rugs now I’m ready for bowls. Thanks so much. You are a great instructor.
Love your creativity! I have made the cotton wrapped bowls, but always wondered why you couldn’t use other types of rope. Thank you for showing us that we can. Love the finished product! The decorative stitches add so much, too. Absolutely fantastic! Beautiful bowl.
Marvilous🎉 you are such an inspiration to me, and I really need that so much right now. Thank you so much, thank you for your words saying that we don't need permission from no one. That was such an encouragement to me❤ Good bless you. Much love from Brazil🇧🇷
I love it, a guy who knows needles. I love that you test things. When I was giving sewing lessons, I suggested to my students to make a 3 ring binder, and using page protectors to store their samples and notes, so they could reference them. If you ever try using backpack strapping use the heat method to stop the fraying also. dog collars with this method. You are inspiring. Oh my gosh, we could use a triple stitch zig zag or mending stitch. Oh my god, I've been locked up in this house too long.
Ok Christopher… I’m hooked! I made a bowl..harbor freight 10ft x 1/4 inch… nice softer diamond braid… I ‘m scaredy-cat.. afraid to brake brother XP3😉. Did fine..used 3 packs 10ft red and white blended rope.. I love my 1st bowl😊
Hi Debbie, I have been desperate to make one of these bowls but, like you, was afraid I might damage my Brother V7. Thank you for mentioning that it can be done on your machine 🙌👍🫶
I love this, Christopher. I also love how you try new ways to do projects. You are a gifted encourager. I actually use to watch you many years ago when I first started to machine embroider. Somehow I lozt contact and it is sew good to see you again. I loved your video on Dominick and his mom. 😁
Cool idea. My latest thrift store find- A Janome MC9000, brought me here. I can't wait to try these things. I was thinking about how to use multiple decorative stitches on the same bowl. It could be done by switching stitches between 'rows' or even winding a multi-start spiral from two or more ropes. First sewing them together linearly, then into a spiral - each time with a different decorative stitch pattern. Starting the spiral presents some issues, but also some room for creativity. The simplest two rope spiral could be accomplished by folding one rope in the middle. More interesting is to start with a small overlap which leads to interlocking 'J's. The ropes themselves can be different colors or thicknesses. Finally, in thinking about how to begin a three rope bowl, I sketched out something that looked like a face by starting with the outside ropes being slightly shorter than the center rope. This suggested two eyes and a nose, completed by a mouth and face outline as the spiral takes shape. Your creativity has inspired me. Thank you.
Great idea!!! I love the variegated thread with the different stitch! BTW, the reason for the thread not melting is because you were using cotton thread. Cotton burns; it does not melt. Polyester thread melts. (The difference between natural fibers and natural fibers.)
I LOVE your site! You are so precise, great at explaining, and showing the process! I have tried many of your patterns. I am disabled and purchased addi knitting machines and hakve had hours of fun making your projects!
Love this. I’m just getting into the making of rope items. These color are awesome. Love the fancy zigzag better than the regular zigzag. Once again the for the awesome video.
Hi Christopher, I just found your channel and subscribed. Such magnificent camera work and instructions! I love the multi-color thread technique! Very creative! 😊
I have a Bernina 790 that does everything but my housework….and hundreds of stitches…but don’t use HALF of what it does. You are correct, I should experiment

Never made one that I am heading out tomorrow to get the supplies for it. That is absolutely gorgeous and I love it. Where is the needle chart I couldn’t find it. Again that is beautiful and I love it and thank you for sharing.
At 1:45, you said you were using a size 18 leather needle. I get the size 18 because you said the thread was thicker. But why a leather needle as opposed to a size 18 topstitch needle? Is it because of the shape and how it pierces the rope?
For those people that turn the volume down or maybe they don’t like the sound of the sewing machine if you click on the word more at the end of the title, you will scroll down a little bit and you’ll see the word show transcript. This is something that I just Noticed a little while ago, but it will type out everything that he is saying so you can watch the video on mute, and still hear what he is trying to tell you.
