Which you would choose and why... let us know in the comments below.
How does Lone Rider stack up against Mosko Moto is a question I have been asked a lot this season. The other question why I switched from Mosko backcountry 35L Panniers to the Lone Rider Motobags. In this video we discuss the similarities and differences of the two.

here i am, watching reviews about some sophisticated luggage systems, knowing full well that i , next time i go on a tour, am just going to strap a backpack to my passengers seat again

That's what I used to do but you've got high weight that's mostly behind the centerline of the rear wheels. Moving from Los Angeles to Dallas on my bike I packed a travel bag placed crosswise on the backseat, a hiking backpack upright on the luggage rack but strapped to the travel bag. and a backpack for my laptop and some smaller items. What a terrible setup. I left work early to get to the bike store and I bought some throwover Nelson Rigg panniers that were only $50 and they made such a difference in my bikes handling. I wasn't touring a lot so that's what I used. Then I started touring a lot. That necessitated a better set up. (The bags would sag into my wheels depending on how that were loaded (I strung a wire from my rear rack to my pegs to keep the bags from trying to occupy the same space as my wheel.) they'd shift, etc.) I bought a used rack and hard bags from an inmate on advrider dot com and that's been my setup since. Worth the upgrade over a backpack.

Lost the left one of my original BMW plastic paneer at 40miles/h, don’t ask why, it crashed into a hard shoulder and a car bumped it back to me. Car took off, fairly damaged in the front. Not only my paneer is still ok and in permanent use but also looks much better now

I chose the LoneRider because I didn't like the look of the backing plate that is left on the bike when the Mosko bags are removed. When the LoneRider quick release comes out, there will be no need for a backing plate to remain on the bike. Also, who wants to drag a wet muddy bag into their tent or hotel room. Just remove the clean dry inner waterproof bag and go on your way.

Great video. I have both and they are excellent systems for the reasons you mentioned. Both extremely durable, fallproof, and convenient. I wouldn't go back to aluminum panniers after using them. The molle system alone makes things that need to be accessible always available for use - water, fuel, goggles, rain gear, etc. The extra minibags on both systems are essential kit for those.

Awesome Video. Glad I found your channel actually ( RU-vid dumped it in my list..). I was stoked to see what your mate was using as a rack plate, when he removed the Mosko. I second Klaus’s post. Sod paying the cost of the top box. I’d hiff a Military pack on the back and shove a dry sack/s inside ( my fave method ) - or, use an old Motorcycle courier box on the back and fill it with a dry sack/s. I was a Courier for years - worked through several Tropical cyclones and some of the foulest weather imaginable in New Zealand, with, a simple PVC covering around an aluminium frame, which kept everything dry inside ( parcels / documents for delivery ) in some of the worst weather. The top was closed by flipping a larger lid over the “box” which had velcro and overlapped the main box. Simple, effective and cheaper than a few pints at the local.

I know Tusk doesn't seem to get interest from BMW, and large ADV bike riders, but I really wish Bret could get a hold of their line up, because lets be honest, there stuff is more than 50% cheaper and I can't imagine it is 50% of the quality. I would guess they are 75% as good of quality. TEST SOME TUSK LUGGAGE!

Great video gents. Buuuuuuttt, I bought Nelson Rigg Sierra and am LOVING THEM for less than $175. They're waterproof and that's without the liner! I have the liners tossed in there and use them for grocery runs as they charge for bags here in Seattle. I just hand them off to the sacker and Viola! I lower each easily down into the panniers and then bring them right to the kitchen counter when I get home. Oh, and the Nelson Rigg panniers are about 5 pounds per side and yours are the same weight as the hard panniers. I rest my case.

I use the latest Mosko Moto bags, which include two main new features: (1) an aluminium security bar on the roll-top side of the panniers, and (2) a spring-loaded locking tab on the back side of the panniers which slots into the rugged pannier rack slide-mounts. Both of these are lockable and protect against arbitrarily removing the panniers from the bike and the contents from the panniers themselves. I use the aluminium bar in conjunction with a lockable steel braided security strap (also supplied by Mosko Moto) ... essential here in South Africa. I’m totally happy with my Mosko Moto purchase!

Almost went for the Moskos but saw the LoneRiders and changed my mind. Enduristans were the first on my radar and I actually bought the 50l Tornado 2 in mind of buying the Monsoons. Happy with the Tornado though. From what I read the moskos are not waterproof. You need to use an inner bag (correct me if Im wrong) The LoneRiders are waterproof without the inner bag. Also being able to lock them was another reason for my change of heart. That and the various reviews and videos of them being dragged and surviving crashes with next to no damage is what swayed me. But yes.. the price... ouch! Mine will come with the new quick release system (July batch) but the older bags can be retro fitted with it. Also.. Customer service from LoneRider is fantastic and very informative! Same day reply from Anna. That also a huge selling point for me. Looking forward to the long term review.

I went with the Mosko bags as when I was searching around for the Lone rider bags everybody was having complaints about having them not delivered on time or logistical issues. So Mosko seems to have a great customer base and top notch service. So far I went with the 35 reckless set and the large duffle for the back and my only complaint is I don’t know why I didn’t go with these bags sooner over hard cases. Absolutely adore these.

Perfect timing on this video Bret! I was just researching the hard and soft bag systems last week. My final choices came down to 4 soft bag brands with similar features. So my final decision was based on best quality for my needs and value for money. The French Moto bags were almost double the price of the Mosko bags and IMO not double the value. Other contenders were the Krieg (sold out at the time), Enduristan Evo (no quick release option), Giant Loop RTW also no quick release option. So in the end I decided that the Mosko was the best value with all the quality and features of the others. And it was the lowest price to boot! On top of that they just released version 2 which has even more improved features that Brets video didn’t include. I’m confident I made the right decision for my budget and needs.

It's on the list. Paul is going to do the same so I am hoping to campare. Is there any difference between the Touratech suspension and the Tractive? (Tractive makes the Touratech) also the Woody's built wheels vs Dubya built. The wheels are nicer off road and suspension is always a noticable improvement but the combination is amazing. The issue is the price. It is a VERY expensive upgrade.

What I like about BMW’s vario panniers is the lack of a huge rack when you take them off for a day ride. Plus, they lock up easily & with Kathy’s liners make it easy to get your stuff to your room. For hard core off road however, soft bags look to be the ticket.

I have Lone Riders and one time I would've had a real problem not being able to detach them from the bike. I needed to squeeze through a small opening and luckily I didn't carry my gear. Later that day I took the red bag out, but all the stuff I needed for 2 weeks into it, folded the bags and went off. 2 weeks with very minimal gear was kind a frustrating. All this great, but the issue is remembering where you put what. I just did Houston to Wyoming to Nebraska back to Houston trip using Kriega bags. They worked great, water proof etc. But if I needed something I’d have to look through all the bags to find it. And inevitably what I needed would be at the back of the last bag I checked. It would be awesome to have one big bag that cover the tail and sides. Open with one zip and everything is there to see. Maybe I’m dreaming

These are probably the two best brands on the market, just to indicate that today Lone Rider already has the quick mounting and dismounting of suitcases, but this is useful for short trips, since for long trips and OFF ROAD, maybe the old flange system gives me more security. This I will see in time.

I went with the Lone Rider bags. Fretting over the cost when we're paying $20K or so for a bike seems silly. I chose these because I like the semi-rigid aspect. The lack of a quick release is a downside, but since you can just take the interior bag with you, it doesn't really matter. The only reason I like removing the bags is for offroading, not to take them into a hotel or something. And they're working on a quick release. I also prefer the material, which I believe is the same stuff that life rafts are made from but I could be wrong. What finally sold me was a video out there of someone pushing a bike with the bags off the back of a truck and dragging it down a road. There was almost no damage to the bag.

I’ve had both Mosko and Lone Rider on Adventure bikes, and they’re both good, the Mosko are incredibly tough, they actually require a bit of break in time. But they’re too big for lightweight Adventure. For lightweight ADV I think the Kriega OS-18 is a great enduro style system, with an Ortlieb roll top across the seat between them if you need extra.

Having a Multistrada V4S I have the stock panniers (made by Givi) that came with it and are great in torrential downpours & I got a Shad Terra top box but I use the top box more than anything as its easy to store my gear in securely & not fiddle around with the soft luggage. I also have the Kreiga 40l soft bag system and like it as I don’t have to buy the side mounts etc etc just to mount it, work on any bike & looks nice when I don’t want to use my soft bags, no bag mounts needed. I like them but in some ways are a PITA getting in & out of, pro’s and con’s to both really. I’ve had my Kreiga for a while on my other bike & transferred them to my V4S, I got tired of it a little bit on a long trip I took, panniers, top box I can keep on it overnight & pretty secure but accessibility is a huge plus. All good systems for sure

Soft panniers with space left in them (not full), does hinder the bikes fall less. Hindering the bikes fall if often a good thing. The odds is very much for the leg being in front of the panniers, so a hard one can actually save the leg from being squeezed/crushed. A very full soft pannier also protects, but... All in all, I think you are to categoric. You seldomly know exactly what kind of accident you’re going to face when dropping the bike. Often hard panniers protects your legs, rather than being a threat! It depends, and it depends on so many things... I use both soft and hard panniers, depending on the trip. And actually, if I can see an advantage that is really significant with the hard panniers, it is on very long runs (say >10000 km rides) where you need to (or wanna...☺️) bring a lot if stuff, including things that needs protection. Also - they are great dinner chairs and tables! 😆

Glad I went back and watched this. Enjoying the banter and chemistry you 2 have. I just got the Moskomoto bags for my Pan America.

Hello Guys Thanks for the video and comparison. Really easy to understand for foreigners. The only problem is that i spent most of my time laughing during the competition. Thumbs up and subscription.

Hi, Bret! Big fan here! If possible could you give some tips on gear changing while standing ? It aways feel akward to me, and generally I feel out of balance while doing that.
