Mosky Black Rat Distortion pedal! 

It's amazing how this micro pedal is not made with SMD components, and have a "normal" CI size! So this is the best choice for mod. I have some mooer pedals and they are not so good builded inside, and SMD mods are much risked. Your tip is precious. Great video, thank you.

Well, they do call it a Black Rat probably because the 10K resistor in R14 makes the tone darker than a vintage Rat ? Maybe a Stoner or Doom Metal Rat with the 10K part ? Mosky does the Hard/Soft clip switch for it's Silver Horse mini pedal as well. I just ordered a Black Rat, looking forward to getting it here in Q4 2021.

I have one- and another Rat pedal. It's not necessary to change the resistor on the Mosky- 1) It's a ROYAL pain in the butt and not worth the trouble and super easy to destroy the pedal in the effort. 2) By changing the resistor you DO NOT get any more high end, what you get is a wider sweep on the filter knob, i.e. all of the same tone is available on the un-modded pedal, but it's all between 12 noon and full clockwise (5 PM). You simply need to move the filter knob across a smaller sweep, with a little more care and finesse. It sounds exactly like any stock Rat, mainly because of the LM308AN and the same circuitry. So if you can live without a battery compartment, these can be had for $25 on ebay- mine (claimed shipped from USA- ha!) took 12 days to arrive. I prefer the Biyang DS-10 Mad driver for $35- you can use a battery, and it gets a three way toggle instead of a 2 way on the Mosky. Sounds exactly the same, and I didn't have to change the resistor on the DS-10 either, and all the tone is there.

Good video, but the video you should have made was changing out the resistor.

Caveat emptor: I bought one. The only thing that works is bypass, lol. Strangely, when engaged, even though there's no guitar sound, there's still a lot of noise, and the noise is affected by the gain/level/filter controls.

Hi my friend, nice video! : UPDATE there is a 10uf capacitors link to the source of the 2n5485 (2n5458 equivalent sort of) transistor going to the output, this should be a 1uf capacitors, not 10uf . this is the real reason why this pedal sound dark not the resistor like you say, as it becomes part of the filter network. Hi Ricky, l did this resistor swap R14 on the upper pcb from 10k to 1k5 & haven’t found the Filter knob’s function changed much. I do get a *good* amount of treble when turned fully clockwise but the ‘threshold’ from dark to bright is right over at 3 O’Clock same as it was before the resistor change. Are you finding the same? It’s a very good pedal & Turbo mode really turns it up a gear. You would never get the pcb’s apart without a good solder sucker lol

This is an incredible review. Thanks for opening it up. I love how its not SMD like most of the cheaper pedals being sold right now. Thanks for the resistor identification as well. I am guessing 1.5K''s are not something that comes cheaply in bulk buys as opposed to 10k values. Probably the reason why they just went along with the 10k. Surprising that they did not substitute the filter cap accordingly. Definitely a great buy though. Just those parts put together is more than the price of the pedal itself.

I bought that pedal and made the mod with your help, thank you man. I changed the led clipping to 2 diodes in serie (i like it more). Make the same demo with Mosky TS clone to check some "upgrade mod" and show to us. Great video.

I hate when I have to turn the playback speed up to 1.75 or 2x, and the video still drags on. This 13min could have been 5 or 6. Please write a script instead of winging it. I really wanted to watch, but just had to jump to 8:30 to actually hear what I came here for!

I had a turbo rat and got rid of it. I purchased this for my step dad. Years ago he'd always want to play my turbo rat when visiting with my mom. He has a vintage distoriton+. We should of traded. I like the distortion+ over the rat... Different strokes for different folks, I guess..
