@@marcrchtz9024 1. I think no matter what you need to be X ft away from any structures, 2. You don't need a license, training maybe, but not a license, also where I live some people will train you just for the cost of fuel if you wanted a personal license which lowers the cost substantial (I think the check ride is only like 500 atm) ... But no you don't need a license, ultralight are 100% legal without a license
@@marcrchtz9024 I am speaking to the reality of the matter. This isn't an argument about SHOULD you get a license, it's about if you NEED a license. The answer is no.
I think you should fly to some random person's house, land in their front yard, and give them an envelope with their name on it with a note that just says 'Hi.' on it, and fly away.
I'd have to say that this seems like the coolest/most fun toy that a guy can have. But it def seems like the easiest way to get killed from it as well. Just my thoughts
You don't need a pilots license to operate the Mosquito XEL (the one with floats) because its considered an ultralight, the XE and up require a license.
Not according to the Rotor FX sales site: rotorfx.com/aircraft_services/mosquito_helicopter_sales/ If you click on XE it states a license is required, it carries too much fuel to be classified as an ultralight.
To have one of these is my ultimate dream. No pilots license needed and you can fly for like 3 hours... If I had 32 grand to spare, I would buy one of these in a heartbeat.
32 grand gets you a used (prob unsafe) mosquito and no money left over for $15k flying lessons, without which I could see you crashing. You need $45k for a new model preferably and money for classes. Then you need a place to store it to prevent corrosion from rain, then you need some sound insulating doors cause who wants to hear that super loud engine when they fly? Then if you're serious about anti theft you need a an alarm system and maybe an infrared seeking taser to stop thieves lol. But after that you have a very neat toy that would be very fun and low cost.
Jorge Dardon I'm not sure I'd need to spend that much on training. Not that this compares to real helicopters, but I've flown collective pitch RCs for quite a while. I know how rotorwash and all that affects stablity. The controls are simple enough; collective for up/down, stick for cyclic and pedals for anti-torque. But to prevent a brutal death, a few lessons might be warranted haha. As for security, even if I did get one of these, I would have no clue where to put it, let alone how I'd implement a infrared seeking taser system xD

Most peoples backyards around here are entire towns. My nearest neighbor is 2,000 ft from my house. You should see my backyard. NYC could fit in it, twice.
Hi, have a question about the power required at hover. Starting at about 3:40 when you are transitioning into a hover, are you effectively at 100% throttle here? Sounds like the RPM dropped quite a bit, but may have just been really loaded up. Especially at 3:44. Did rotor RPM actually drop significantly at that point? Thanks for the video.
rotor rpm never drops, helicopters always fly at constant rpm. What you are hearing is just different exhaust notes from the engine under power as he pulls up and down on the collective. When he pulls up to "add more power" what's really happening is the blade pitch is changing taking a bigger chunk out of the air. This is more difficult for the motor so the motor increases fuel flow to work harder. There is a correlator on the throttle to automatically add or reduce a little gas depending upon collective position.
First video I've seen where a yaw string was used (that is what that sting is for right?!), seems like a good idea that everyone should use it. Especially since there are limited instruments (have to keep that weight down by law some how or at least here there are laws about weight and power). Anyway enjoyed the view.
I don't see why this would be the case. These Helos can fly up to thousands of feet off the ground, and they can cruise at up to 100 mph. At 100 mph, autorotation would start immediately, so you'd really only need a few hundred feet to find some place to put it down.
These are seriously one of the cheapest ways to get into flying without looking janky and actually being able to haul ars. I want an archon sf experimental plane, but thats 60K without avionics or the engine. Hell of a deal here.
+hundvonkrieg It is a manual throttle control, I believe you twist the grip on the collective counter clockwise to increase (kinda like a motorcycle grip)
Scared of toasters unfortunately, in the US a machine gun will cost you half as much as the aircraft...just as much if you want one that won't catch fire during meltdown after continuous fire
For all the people that think theyre insane pilots. You need a license in all of Europe, also in America except for some states. My advice is: never fly this without a license. I have my license for over 3 years now and even some maneuvres are a little hard for me! Don't think you are a good pilot without a license!! Most important thing every pilot knows: Being a macho is the worst you can be in an aircraft! If you have questions, please ask. I'm willing to help any of you...
Thunderstriker I'm his son. A sprag clutch check was done. The aircraft was just previously flown within a few minutes. This is a very experienced pilot with thousands of hours.
+brainfarth Helps keep the helicopter in balance to the oncoming airflow, so you don't fly sideways too much. You use opposite pedal to the string pointing direction. Does not work much below 40knots.
