yes I guess that cannot work very good for mosquitoes since they are not attracted by yest smell resp. CO2 alone, they need also the right temperature information and maybe even visual input to find their hosts. But you could still use that kind of trap in your kitchen, for other insects. If you change the liquid you can even try to adjust to specific insects. E.g. putting some vinegar inside would most probably attract fruit flies. You can alsotry it with beer, by placing that trap in your garden, that would attract snails. ;-)
