In this redstone tutorial video I will show you how to create a moss-powered bone meal farm for Minecraft Bedrock edition. This version has an adjustable over-flow chest, which can be handy if you wish to convert it to just collecting the moss items : moss blocks, moss carpets, azaleas, and flowering azaleas. If you want me to put out the conversion video, let me know down in the comments.
The base version of this farm was shown to me by MikeDCraft. Check out his channel here: / @mikedcraft1559
Additionally, the observer/bone-mealing dispenser set up was inspired by Ilmango's java-version video here: • Peaceful Challenge #81...

👍 Thank you! It's a relatively straight-forward farm to put together. When working on the design the biggest part was just getting the stone generator, water dispensers, and bone-mealing the moss block to all work in-sync. Hopefully Mojang won't make any big changes that will break the farm any time soon. 😅

If you place another stone generator on the opposite side of the hoppers, the farm will break more moss blocks (increasing your per minute yield). You just have to add more hoppers and mulchers to deal with the increase.
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost Год назад
Hello. Thank you for the comment. It is true that adding another stone generator would increase the yield. It's basically like building a second farm. I have a version 2.0 farm I've made that is a big improvement on this one. (I've been too busy with real life stuff to put out a video on it though.) Basically I've stacked 2 platforms on top of each other to double up the farm and make it run twice as fast. And then, instead of having the stone generator at the back of the farm, I've put 1 on each side (for each platform) , pushing towards each other. That arrangement crushes more moss blocks per cycle than a single stone generator at the back. That means there is more stone available to be converted into moss blocks per cycle. Per platform, it creates more blocks than my original design.... Hopefully I can get the time soon to make the tutorial for it. 👍

Conversion please!!! This is great! I think you need to do some sort of Short or Redstone Component explanation of Haybales. I will use them because you say so, but I am not quite sure what they do and don't do because of the confusion around their introduction.
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Thank you! 😅 I know we tried to talk about haybales in Discord before, but my thoughts weren't very orderly to get much meaning across. I'll see if I can do better and put out a short video in the not too distant future. 👍

Hello. Thank you for the comment! The bulk of my textures are from Faithful 32. Some of the new blocks added in version 1.14 are textured with Multipixel by Zou Chenyunfei. Then, some of the blocks, like the wool with the borders, are textures I made to make it easier to see and count the number of blocks as they are placed. 👍

Thanks for the video! Sorry if I missed it, but what are the actual rates of the farm? For bonemeal, and for the moss components would be great. Thanks!!
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Hello. Good question. However, it is not going to be a set number because there are too many randoms involved. The first is the random number of moss blocks and other items (azaleas, carpet, grass) that get formed when the seed moss block is bone mealed. The second random is the number of items it takes for a composter to turn organics in to bone meal. However, here's the test I ran (mostly so I can test improved versions of the farm) : 1 - I removed the composters to directly collect the moss items in a chest. So, no bone meal going back in to power the farm. 2 - I started out with 66 bone meal (1 stack + 2 bone meal) in the dispenser at the seed moss block. 3 - I ran the farm until it was out of bone meal and all the moss blocks were broken and collected in the chest. 4 - It took exactly 5 minutes. 5 - I did this test twice. 6 - I collected 1,151 moss items the first time and 1,113 items with the second test. On average it was over 9 stacks of moss blocks, over 1 stack of azaleas, 1/2 to 3/4 stack of flowering azalea, over 4 stacks of moss carpets, and over 1 stack of seeds. 7 - For each test 1 and test 2 I ran the items 2 different times through composters. 8 - For each test 1 and test 2 the results were a return of between 93 and 99 bone meal. So, even though test 1 and 2 had a difference of 38 moss items, the amount of bone meal created by them gave the same range. 9 - That means the farm can create a profit of between 27 and 33 bone meal in 5 minutes of afk. Hope this answered your question! 👍

@@VoidedandLost Thanks for the detailed response - this is super helpful and matches what I've seen now that I've made the farm on a realm that I play on. The biggest challenge I've had (which you've alluded to as well) is the desyncing. When it happens I'm just burning bonemeal as the stone platform is covered in water and can't be bonemealed to moss successfully. Any tips on how to minimize this? I don't know red stone mechanics well enough to know if/how to add a delay or something to the system. In general this only happens when I'm trying to do other work around my base and the farm rather than truly doing some afk time but it's kept me stuck taking 2 steps forward / 1 step backward.
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
@@tycogaming1233 Sorry for the delayed response. I've done that too - been working around the base with the farm running, only to wander too far and have it unsync. Most activation distances on realms are 4 chunks. . . some are 6. So, that doesn't give you very far to roam. It could also unsync if you log off and back on with it running. One solution could be to set a ticking area around the farm. That way it is always being processed by the game. But that would require the owner of the realm to set that up. Other than that, there is little that can be done, other than to turn the farm off before moving out of range. . . .

Awesome farm. Built in creative to test before adding it to my world in survival. I had a thought. Could u rotate the bonemeal supply chain to the back and put 2 stone generators on the sides then?
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Hello disney886. If I understand you correctly, I believe you could do that. I think you would need to use 2 moss "seed" blocks though to double your farm. If you stick with 1 moss-converting block, then I think you would be loosing spawning spots for other moss blocks, due to how the stone generators would be pushing the stone and you still needing the water flows to be worked in. The moss seed block will only convert stone that is 3 blocks away in a north, south, east, west direction. But up and down it will convert further. I would say try out your idea and see how it goes. If you can improve upon the farm that would be awesome! And let us know how it goes! 👍
@disney886
@disney886 2 года назад
@@VoidedandLost so heres my thinking. The water stream is destroying the moss items " trees, grass ,carpet..." ( you get about 14-20) but leaves the moss blocks. The stone generator then crushes moss blocks. There are 43 "potential" stone blocks that can be turned into moss. As far as I can tell the generator is only able to clear a row or 2 before it gets bone meal again. Now if you could crush more moss blocks before the next cycle that would improve your rates
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
@@disney886 So, are you thinking about having the generators at the sides pushing towards each other to the center? That way, instead of crushing 1 moss block per row per cycle you can crush up to 2 moss blocks per row per cycle? (Stone generator cycle, not water flow cycle.)That would definitely have possibilities for increasing your rates! That is a very interesting direction to take the design. 👍 Since your first comment I've been in a testing world to see if I can't improve the design as well. So far I'm working through different timings with little show-able progress. As you get your design working I'd be interested to hear how it goes!

@@VoidedandLost I've been able to increase speed of your stone generator by putting one lava in middle block instead of the 2 on either side. Running same 4 repeaters on 1 tick delay. All stone. Can get to moss block before next bone meal

@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Hello. In order to get more bone meal out of the farm than what you put in to the farm you need the stone generator. The moss blocks, which you get by converting the stone blocks, make up over half of the bone meal you get back, once they go through the composters. 👍

hey bro i have a problem with the farm 1 of the sticky pistion dont bring the block at the first time back only at the second time, do you now what i have to do?
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Hello. I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your farm. I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. Can you try to explain what you mean by first time and second time? Because of the clock circuit with all the repeaters (at 12:14) the redstone signal going to the sticky piston (at 18:12) will be on for a long time and then off for a long time. You can see it working at 34:22 behind me. When the repeaters have power going through them the piston is extended and when the power end the piston retracts, triggering the other sticky piston and bone mealing the moss block. If you are still having problems with the pistons, check the repeater timings in the 2 sections I've mentioned above.

@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Hello. If the stone under the moss is not changing, that means some of the timing has been thrown off . . . the water is covering the stone when the moss seed block is being bone-mealed. That is a common side-effect of leaving the area (or logging out) with the farm running, and then returning. Re-loading the chunk with the machine running can throw the timings off. To fix, did you turn the farm off then back on? Also, depending on how long the farm was running without making any more bonemeal you might want to check to make sure you still have some in the Dropper/Dispenser firing in to the moss block. If that didn't fix it, let me know.

Hello. Sorry I haven't replied sooner but I've been away. Were you able to find and fix the issue that you were having? Still... that is very unusual because moss blocks should break into an item when pushed by a piston. They should not get pushed out of place. Do the moss blocks that are formed from bonemealing the 'seed block' break when pushed by the stone generator?
@OshayrDeZwirek
@OshayrDeZwirek Год назад
@@VoidedandLost The piston was not breaking what grew on the moss block, i fixed it, by moving the moss block below the floor, and a piston pushing the open space next to it into a water stream, breaking it. Thank you,

Hello. Sorry I missed your comment earlier. When you run the farm, does it look like the moss blocks being formed are being crushed (roughly) twice every time the water flows? Also, check the dispenser firing in to the seed moss block and see if it is building up bone meal in it. It should be maintaining 2 pieces of bonemeal in it. Let me know! Also, if you've already solved the issue, let me know that too!

Urgent....do we need to build this farm within chunk border in pocket edition....do reply
@VoidedandLost
@VoidedandLost 2 года назад
Good Morning! I do not know specifically with pocket edition. In general, I would say no. However, if there is going to be an issue with chunk borders it would potentially be because of the observer at 11:38 triggering only some of the water dispensers, but not all, when the chunk is loaded. To minimize issues with that, you can align the width of the farm (or the whole back half of the farm) inside a chunk. However, the biggest way to prevent issues with the farm or water dispensers would just be to turn the farm off before you leave the area or log out. 👍
