Today we test pattern a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag with Salt Creek Custom Ammo 3" 2oz TSS 8.5 shot through a Kicks Gobblin Thunder .680 choke at 40 and 60 yards. We got some really impressive results, so stick around and see how they performed!

You remember when that 835 came out with the 3.5” chamber and everybody had to get one. Now we have to have a .410 with tss. I feel this is due the sisification of the American male. It encourages me to see to see you bringing the manly gun.

Shotshell technology was way different years ago. Back then, you were dealing with basic lead 4s and 5s for most of your turkey stuff which are a far cry from today's tss loads, so you had to run those larger shells

I have never shot an 835 that didn’t pattern well, even with the stock choke. It is hard to beat that pattern.

No doubt, you can’t complain about that pattern at 40. What about 10yds or 15? Does it look like a tennis ball went through the target at those close ranges? I know it’s all a trade off.

Never tested it that close but I'm sure it would be nothing but a fist size whole in the paper, so you better be right on em

@@codystanley1935 they pack a bit more recoil than most other 12 gauges, but they pattern fantastic with pretty much anything in my experience

@Cody Stanley yeah, in my experience as well as others, they do have more felt recoil than most. It's nothing major, maybe a sharper recoil response if that makes sense? They are still great shooters though

Hey Matt I've got to 835 just like yours 24" turkey barrel best patterning gun I've ever had I've got an XR choke 683 I got a jelly head choke 690 and The full and modified Everything I shoot in this gun no matter what it is it patterns great!! Modified choke 3" 000 buckshot At 45 yd is inside of 11" circle . My is like yours you can honestly kill a turkey at 60-70 yd it will do it !! Great video brother Enjoy it! 👍

I shoot a Mossberg 935 with Indian Creek .675 and APEX NINJA 8 1/2 shot. It is brutal as well.

Quite excellent results, maybe a little more on the Mossberg , looks like it would make a good slug rig but does it swing light? ( bunnies, pheasants ect.?) Thanks!

I've got some more videos in the works with it, so stick around for those. It's actually a little more front heavy than you might think since it has the larger over bored barrel on it, which also probably wouldn't be great for slugs since they would have more room to yaw when traveling down the barrel. It makes a good turkey or waterfowl gun, which is what it was made for

Very nice patterns! Do you know what the bore is on that gun? A regular 12g is around .730, that has to be .760-.770 maybe?

I think it is somewhere between 770 and 775, but I haven't measured it to be sure

They have true 10 gauge bores along the entire length of the barrel-- .775

@@saltcreekammo I believe they have 2 slightly different versions of the ulti-mag, one that's bored over down the entire barrel and one that is bored over at the last 5 inches or so of the barrel. Mine is the one that has the last few inches of the barrel that is very noticeably over bored compared to the rest of the barrel. Don't know if how much different it makes between the two versions though

I just went to Mossbergs web site and they say “overbored” for all the guns in the 835 model line. I can’t see a larger muzzle section than a bore section, that would be a reverse choke! I am going to Scheels tomorrow and get me one! Thanks!
