Absolutely loved the in depth review of the internal parts, Jerry’s modifications and the years worth of shooting knowledge between you two guys. Thanks for the great video Steve!
Thousands of rounds, usually over 1000 between cleanings. The 940 jm is sweet! I use mine for sporting clays, not what it was meant for but it works for me. Very happy with it! It is very forgiving on the maintenance if your lazy on cleaning it'll still run. My buddy shoots a cz and cleaning is much more critical or he has malfunctions. IC factory choke is all i need and a little shiming for a lefty and i was breaking high 70s low 80s with this jm pro.
Great review with tremendous insight into the "why" for the various modifications and upgrades from the 930 to the 940 Pro Series. And, of course, having Jerry there to be the one to offer that insight was straight-up amazing! He's a class act and an unbelievable wealth of knowledge! Keep up the great work!
I am so glad to have both of you reviewing the 940 JM PRO together. What a team! I have so much respect for both of you, Steve and Jerry, and trust your judgements and critiques. I had the please of attending a training class lead by Jerry (and Lena) and look forward to the day I get to me you, Steve. I own the JM PRO and LOVE IT! During the class I actually got to shoot Jerry's magna-ported shotgun! Shoots so flat. He wouldn't let me keep it :( Great experience.
Thanks for watching, Patrick. Training by Jerry is second to none. I also had the pleasure of shooting some content with Lena as well, stay tuned! I am sure our paths will cross at some point. I appreciate your support! 👊 Stay Target 🎯Focused (Hebrews 12:1-3)
Being a lefty, the ability to change cast on this one combined with being a gasser makes it interesting. Add in the top safety and it’s immediately on my list! Here’s to hoping some of the stores around me like Scheels or the smaller gun shops in the area will actually carry them
I recently bought this Mossberg 940 pro - field version. So…28” barrel, black synthetic stock. Plain jane version. I only have 100 rounds through it. So far my biggest take away is that it kicks hard compared to other semi autos. Thought it would be softer. Really like the stock adjustments. Trigger is fine. Like the interchangeable frt sight pipes. Don’t like the chokes that come with it. Need to shoot it more.
Thanks Markus. Glad the reviews have been helpful in making purchases. What has been your favorite shotgun so far? 👊 Stay Target 🎯Focused (Hebrews 12:1-3)
@@TargetFocusedLife A Beretta A300 Ultima 20 guage. I search hard for a Winchester SX4 but after awhile I gave up and am glad I bought the Beretta…….Maybe that will be my next purchase!
It’s almost Dove season, which means I have new shotgun fever. We shoot clays in late summer and fall as well as take customers Pheasant and Quail hunting. I have a SX4 and an SBE3. I love my SX4. It’s been a game changer for shotgun shooting for me. I like the SBE3 as well. But I prefer the SX4. Trigger is better, recoil is less. Going forward I want to stay with The gas system. I would love to be able to try the A400, 940 Pro and Maxus 2 all at the same time to be able to pick one. The 940 Pro looks pretty appealing to me.
Fantastic video and awesome review. I'm considering a semi-auto shotgun for clay and some hunting... This seems like a winner and is at the top of my list now. Truly appreciate ya!
I bought one of these shotguns because I was a big fan of Jerry and how he talked about the model in the past. It was then after shooting it I realized my skill level is extremely low compared to what the shotgun was built for lol
loved my 930 jm pro. had a lot of issues with the bolt and not going into battery after about 500 rounds and could never get it solved and completely reliable after that. sad because i enjoyed it so much. upgraded to a a400 extreme plus after.
Great review, great video, and I am sold. Like how you guys went through all the enhancements. The shooting was an appetizer, would love to have seen you two go at it for a solid 5 minutes of film.
I love my JM 940 pro, would like to buy the 28” field barrel for it. Have used my 24” for trap events but not enough barrel or choke at 27 yard line, so I use my getto rigged thunder ranch 590 with a 835 barrel on it; which smokes em and picks up chips in Annie Okly like dream.
Ya know, for being such an obviously branded bought-and-sold ad, the conversation between you two didn't seemed very forced most of the time and you could tell you actually had some fun, which made the video actually kinda fun. Either way, it was very informative, so job well done, even for a product placement vid!
Well I hope it seemed natural, but in full disclaimer, there was no compensation from Mossberg. Jerry is sponsored by Mossberg but this video just cost me money!
Great video and review! One thing Is love to see added to your reviews is the drop at comb, drop at heel and cast dimensions on them, as well as those at both ends of the drop adjustment range with factory supplied shims on guns that can use them. It seems like what works best for me after building a custom stock for my skb 505 is 2.5” DAH, and 1.75" DAC, with 14.25" LOP, with a fair bit of cast off, and a shorter grip radius. I have yet to find an off the shelf autoloader that hits those marks, and many manufacturer websites do a piss poor job of informing potential customers of their fit specs, as well as designed point of impact 50/50, 60/40 70/30, etc. (browning being the only exception I've found).
Love your review and I too have made my recent purchases based on your reviews. I’m looking at a CZ 1012 and would love a review on one to help me decide. Jerry is a wealth of knowledge!
Great review and video Awesome guest. However I had a 935 cleaned it all the time. It was absolute garbage wouldn’t cycle shells, would Jam all the time and would have to really rip the bolt open to get it unjammed. It shot great though when it did shoot. Also wasn’t a huge fan of the top tang safety I contacted mossberg about the issue and they said being the gun was to old they couldn’t do anything about it. Sold it and bought myself an SX4 and never going to buy another Mossberg ever!!! The old ones where Ok these new ones are way overpriced for how junk they are
Just bought a 930 cause it fell under a YT video for top 10 best shotguns 2022 and a pawn shop had it decked out took it home shot it and I have to rack it back every shot so basically not semi firing is junk.
Only place i can find them is at midway. I got the jm940 pro a while back with 24 inch barrel. My knee has issues and i retired from 3 gun and moved to sporting clays. I did ok with the 24 inch barrel but had to get a beretta a400 for the 28 inch barrel. Before getting the a400 I contacted mossberg to see if they sold a 28 inch barrel and they said no. Now they have a 940 pro field verson with 28 inch barrel. Just ordered it from midway. I hope it does good
The biggest gripe I've ever had about tang safeties is my short, fat thumbs. I can't reach it without taking my hand off the grip. One of the reasons why I stuck with Remingtons for as long as I have.
I don't think I'd wait for 1500 rounds before cleaning (Mfg Manual says 1500). I have several guns mag-na-ported and it works good for recoil reduction.
Being retired military, having spent 25+ yrs in the Army & shooting the M16/M4 platform with a thumb safety for a right hand shooter, the Mossberg top safety is directly compatible to how I hunt waterfowl & why I've preferred Mossberg shotguns
I have a 930 JM pro, very cool gun. But couldn't keep the thing running. It would jam, short-cycle, stovepipe all the time. If I completely disassembled the gun, cleaned and oiled everything it would run real slick for maybe 1 box (25) but it quickly ended up gummed up and would short cycle every 6-10 rounds. I've had it worked on by mossberg, qualified gunsmiths, parts replaced etc. Now it just sits in my safe. I hope this 940 has these issues worked out.
@@pauldalton5837 funny enough I actually installed that on my 930 a couple years ago. When I installed it at first I thought that it fixed the issue. (probably because I did a meticulous cleaning job when installing it). But it only slightly increased the interval between malfunctions. Still jammed on average once per box. Glad that it worked for you though. 👍
Great video. Id love to own one especially because it is American made. The thing i can't get over is the safety! I don't like the placement, I wash it was behind the trigger!
I wish the 940 pro came with a longer barrel and it could have 28” for skeet and trap. Although the barrels are interchangeable in the 940s, berg won’t sell you just the barrel at the moment.
Hey Steve! Quick question I'm considering getting an SX4 hybrid max 7 for hunting and clay shooting. I would prefer a 3 inch, but they are harder to find. Dose the SX4 3.5 inch cycle the lighter target loads? What about over the head or from the hip? Thanks!
So I bought the 940 pro turkey I’m hoping they come out with the sale of some 26 inch barrels at least so I could use it for waterfowl hunting to, I bought the 18.5 inch!
how would you advise a hunter primarily focused on turkey, but secondaily has need for upland game birds and grouse? Get the 940 pro turkey with extra barrel for upland?
Bought mine at Shooters World in Florida. Very disappointed to find out when I took it out for the first time to discover it is a Canadian version and only holds 4 shells in the tube. Contacted Mossberg. They don't sell the regular tube, having a hard time finding the right one, so I can use this in competition. Any suggestions?
I just purchased the 940 Pro and want to buya Carlson Choke for Skeet shooting. I am having difficulty finding which one is correct. Would you guide me to the right one please?
I know the trigger housing assembly is held by two takedown pins. But is it normal for the trigger housing assembly of my new 940 Tactical Pro rattles?
What version of the 940 pro would be best for buckshot ? I love the JM model but the barrel length seems short for 00 buck and deer hunting . Thanks ! Carl
Picked up a 940wf this week. First Shot would not cycle. This continued throughout the first box. Winchester target 1200fps #8. I’m concerned, any suggestions?
Wanted to love my JM940 pro, but it wasn't to be. The thing stove-piped on every kind of ammo I ran. I even sent it back to Mossberg, but when I got it back it was exactly the same. I traded it in on a Benelli M2 and never looked back.
Had same issue, only reverse. Bought a benelli ethos Cordoba best, thing was the most unreliable gun I've ever shot. By a mile. Choked on damn near everything it got fed. Can't remember one day I took it our and didn't have an issue. And at 2300dollars that's infuriating. Dumped it and got sumthin different. Ruined my benelli addiction real fast. I realize it is definitely not how a benelli runs, but hey, screw me once and you'll never screw me twice.
@12:05 Jerry says the trigger over travel screw can be purchased and installed into the Field Pro and Waterfowl model. After speaking to Mossberg on 11/16/2022 they do not offer the over travel screw for sale. It comes installed in the JM Pro only. Response from Mossberg CS email: "Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, that screw is not available for accessory purchase to be added to any model that does not include it. I would not have any info to provide. Sincerely, Customer Service Team O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc."
