@RCDriver_online . I read through all the comments. You respond to more comments than any other RCer on youtube. And your even willing to repeat yourself to help share good information. This is exactly why I stop here before anywhere else for my RC tube addiction. Great job Greg!
Thanks! I try, but it’s hard. With 130K Subscribers on RU-vid, 180K on Facebook and 70K+ on IG, it’s almost a full time job answering questions. That doesn’t even count the emails that pour in. I want to answer them all, but I have tons of content that needs to get filmed and there the whole “real job” part too lol.
I can't believe the amount of people that piss and moan about new products. It's not this, its that, waa waa waa. If you don't like it, don't buy it ! It's a fantastic time to be in this hobby, we are absolutely spoilt for choice. Great review Greg, thanks for the informative video and awesome channel mate... Cheers 👍
This is the first thing of the telemetry smart stuff that has gotten my attention, as programing from the radio is a nice touch. I have a Fusion and it is so awesome I don't know if I could justify getting a new radio to run this system.
it's made by Hobbywing. basically same thing accept with the Axe you can program through your phone vs stumbling through your controller, & the Axe is DEAD Silent whereas this makes that annoying whineing noise, atleast here on his test run it did... 👍🏼
Looks alot like the hobby wing axe combo only without the 5mm shaft and the battery connection probably cost more than the hobby wing to , will stick to hobby wing as I don't need a smart battery and new charger on top
If you are not in the spectrum ecosystem the axe makes more sense... a little cheaper and bluetooth programming. If you are already using spectrum stuff this seems like a decent product, especially if you like how the axe runs and you want telemetry.
I have the axe in my redcat gen 8 but it’s really not smooth at low speed. I am kind of new to the hobby so that might be on me with setup. If anyone has any tips on the axe setup please share👍🏻 also great content and video. That setup seems really good for people like me with not a ton of RC knowledge. Cheers🤙💥💯
Of the the rebranding of Hobbywing ESC/Motors, this is the best. I love the fact you can change settings from the controller, where as the AXE you use Bluetooth from your phone. I've been using a AXE since they came out and Love it. Now I may have to try the Spectrum setup with the DX5 pro 2021... Nice job with the review Greg!
I just bought the G2 Axe 550 3300kv. The firma has the previous Axe 60amp ESC whereas the Axe G2 has an 80amp. The biggest issue the Spektrum doesn’t have is a Bluetooth interface like the Axe. I’d much rather program on my phone than to have to fumble through transmitter menus or buy a special program box. I guess if you already have a DX5 and you like it maybe the Spektrum version is worth it.
I got the AXE 540L and setting the ESC with a app is the best thing ever. Simply take out your phone and chance stuff right there on the trial , you can't make that any better.
Of course the crawler system looks better than my 3300 kv and 85 amp ESC combo I just bought last week for my son's Slash. Had a couple issues putting it in but finally done with a 23 tooth pinion and a 86 tooth spur. I still love our Spektrum system and will buy another but this one looks great. Thanks buddy! Speaking of ESC programmer, there's one waiting for me at my LHS! Even though I don't think it's v2.
Looks good. Love having more options. I bet the Hobbywing LED program card that comes with the 1080 ESC will probably work also. (It works with my infraction V2 firma ESC) and all my BLX escs. It's most likely a hobby wing rebrand which is definitely not a bad thing. #3 "FOC"
@@ka4172 They should replace "in cooperation" with "BY" Not only will it short in the text , it'll technically be more accurate. Unless of course they consider their color choice the "build" portion
@@TDR-RC That's unfortunate. They may have changed something because my hobby wing LED card works with my spectrum ESC on my infraction V2 and my kraton. Honestly they may have caught wind of it being compatible and change something in the software so consumers would have no choice but to purchase their program card. 😢
i run Spektrum in all my RC"s except my Crawler. i have a Hobby Wing. I'll be getting this right away. I love having the Spektrum telemetry, Especially having upgraded all my Batteries to G2 and the new chargers
You get so much horizon stuff! I wanna buy a lot of them, but they just cost so much. It’s just so cool! You did a great review of this! I like how you always go in depth of the product. Keep going!!
Spektrum has been making a huge push in their systems the last few years, they are in it to win it it seems. But I think hobbywing is still your best bet for performance and cost. Most likely they are both made in the same factory, ha
Neat to see you at RC Madness! That's my home store. No Bluetooth programming or 4s, the two things that I think would make it a potent aftermarket competitor to the HW Axe system. It's neat that you can do it within the Spektrum family with the new radio, but I want BT so I can do small adjustments in the field with my Flysky GT5 and without needing a programming card. Plus the onscreen interface on the new DX5 didn't look great- there are tons of really good inexpensive LCD screens out there and they need a better designer for the GUI. I don't mind on my $70 Flysky GT5, but at $300?! Ouch. Not to mention the SR2100 is freaking $90 for a 3 channel receiver, which you will use up with throttle/steering/fan. Adding lights and a winch gets tough. Can't complain about that great drag brake adjustment range, though! You didn't mention a price that I heard- I assume in the $200 range to compete with Hobbywing? I'm not seeing enough to make me want to switch from an Axe system on a new build. Nice to have another option out there, though! Maybe they will have it priced well enough to include it as the stock system in a new SCX10IIIv2. I think Redcat proved with the Gen8 Axe that people are willing to buy an RTR with better electronics.
200% drag brake made me think of this Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
That's what I've had since it came out. The only time I have to adjust the settings via smartphone is when I add more weight to it. Good to see more products coming out. They can only keep getting better.
It’s looking like the Hobbywing Axe FOC copy under Spektrum orange. Yes the sensor wire extension is an optional parts to buy. Not sure from Spektrum but Hobbywing sales it.
I would love to know if the system will fit into a Capra. I know they’re limited on the amount of space in there. If this system doesn’t fit do you know if they have one that does? Keep up the good work.
a great combo. does the dx5pro have a "duo motor mode" possibly with a separate lever to vary the speed / balancin. that would be for a moa class. Grüße aus Schaumburg Deutschland
That's exactly what this is, right down to the sensor wire. It's just been customized to include some spektrum brand specifics. It's not suprising as Hobbywing appears to be an OEM for ESCs and motors for other brands as well. Anyone who's into the RC crawler scene can see this from 10 miles away. You can save a few bucks and just get the AXE system. If you're a spektrum eco system RC user then this is for you.
@@JVTechandRC I like how on horizons website they show it I guess installed in a ryft kit even though they haven’t released the ryft kit yet. Horizon is a mess
Yup, it’s OEM’d by Hobbywing but built to Spektrum specs, therefore it’s a Spektrum ESC. The Axe doesn’t have telemetry and can’t be programmed via the radio as the Spektum can. So it’s not just a rebranded Axe. Hobbywing OEM’s for a bunch of companies, but if you call them to repair your Spektrum ESC, they are not going to help you, it’s a Spektrum product.
So I have that same set up in my crawler (Axial SCX 10 II raw builders kit) and I think it’s an absolute great system for that crawler. My only issue and question is why is it so loud? I noticed in your video yours is loud just like mine.
gnarly ol rocks. I am curious as to what servo you have running. Transmission sounds the same as scx103, but I built mine. Great review and test footage!
What is the best motors for The monster beetle and the Subaru. Brat RC please comment back thank you very much for this video would love to know thank you
I have a dx5 pro and can add my cars and all yours so I like it.. so I just bought a vanquish vs4-10 pro and in it is this firma.. I wanted to go with mamba x but instead went with this cause like he says makes sense.
I got this setup for my wraith and I have a little bit of a stutter at low speeds, have not programmed it yet, anyone got suggestions as to what the issue may be?
Hopefully this new competition apples to apples will make these systems more affordable. I did not see anything new that Hobbywing has not achieved already. Maybe with the upgraded remote controller but who does not carry a cellphone and download the free Bluetooth app from Hobbywing?
Ordering on release date! Going full spektrum! Can I use my stock gear from my trx4 sport or will I need a new pinion? Going for scale look build mostly for trails and some light rock crawling
This is a re-branded HW Axe system that comes standard in the Gen 8. only difference is the orange color vs black & the Axe version has better slow end performance from what I hear
Do you prefer this system or the Axe version? I'm kinda debating on one or the other. however I think I noticed the spectrum version you where just testing making a whining noise similar to my Mamba X that drives me crazy. The Hobbywing Axe is Dead Silent which I really like. was I hearing a whine or? what's your opinion on this vs Axe system. Thanks
Looks cool. But would rather a Hobbywing Fusion. With the Fusion 2 in 1 is insane how smooth and slow the motor runs. In turn gives you probably 50% more traction when dont have to overcome motor resistance from obstacles. I can drive up crusty snow at same angle as on rocks
I want my crawler to be able to lock, switch into two wheel drive and then do high speed doughnuts like my old Blackfoot... Anything out there like that?
Yea, haven't installed it yet anyway so it is still in the box. They should've added blu-tooth to the Spectrum, that's one thing I like about the Axe, plus it's 3300kv. Everything else I use is already Spectrum, though. Decisions, decisions.
I hold onto everything in case I need to help someone with a question and have to look at the car for reference. Just pulled the interior because I wanted to see if it would fit in something else and didn’t get a chance to put it back in.
Yeah... you just have to disconnect the power wire from one of the esc's harnesses (the one that looks like a servo wire). You then use a servo y harness and connect them to channel 2.
@@rcdriver the connecter to the battery? I plan to make it deans, or the shaft connection? I’m using the stock radio it comes with for now but will upgrade to the spektrum dx5 later
@@stickmanjoe99 it is essentially an axe. Which you can get in a gen 8 (I have one). It works great. I don't know how well changing plugs will work. I don't know if any data flows through the battery plugs
Its just a 540 hobbywing axe looks 100% the same as the hobbywing axe i just put it in my trx4 sport and the only changes on the outside looks to be the box and the orange color and your esc wires that go to the receiver are colored this time also from looks i havnt watch this yet but the output shaft on the motor looks to smaller then 5mm and no soldering needed on this is a plus for most thou
I just bought an Axe system. Something told me that if I would just wait, Spectrum would be coming out with a brushless system. Same price to. Oh, well.
Only 4amp BEC for a crawler esc? Start throwing 400oz digital steering servos at it with a heavy rig, that's not going to cut it. Should be around 8-10amp, IMO.
Man... we have nothing compared to the indoor facility you're crawling in in this video. That place looks awesome. So, what's the price on this Spektrum system? Also... You wanna sell the stock motor/ esc you took out of your Jeep?
