I looked into a ventrac until I saw it's 30k for a garden tractor! Good for a golf course, not a farm. I will go with a Deer before this thing. The front bucket won't even load a pickup truck!
Another great video brother. It's amazing how satisfying it is to watch yard/farm machinery work lol As far as a name for that lil tractor "Honey Badger "
Very slick little tractor!Truely the Little tractor than could!Like how the tools mount up front so you can clearly see what you are doing!Does a LOT for something compact!
Whoa, hope those tires are foam filled. Those little stumps you're leaving behind to drive over look like tire killers. I checked, no ventrac dealers in my region. Name the tractor for your wife since part of the reason for purchase is to incentivize her participation in machine work.
Well just call me the doubting thomas. I have not seen much in this episode that I can't do with our small 40 year old utility tractor and attached bucket. The tractor even powers a 5' bushhog that could clear the spot you did. Hum???
@ John Irwin : I totally agree. Ventrac articulators are cute little overpriced toys. Don't get me wrong, if you have lots of money to burn, they can be handy to have around. If you are an average Joe with good financial sense, you use regular farm tractors and 3pt attachments and do the same work for a helluva lot less cost. Also, anything with proprietary attachments is bad news for many reasons, but the greatest one is high cost. Best to avoid it like the plague.
I don't know. It seems to me that the JD would of been a better choice for most of those jobs, You could of had the rake on the back with the loader on front and more power that the ventrac looked to be lacking. and got done a lot sooner.
Josh, the Tires are called HDAP .( Heavy Duty All Purpose ). They are NOT "Turf" tires. They are as you say excellent for this tractors duties on a lawn or field.
I live on a farm too and I don't leave my fuel pump handle hanging off the side of the truck... Why don't you just turn the pump so the handle isn't hanging off the truck like everyone else?
I used to build deliver and service Ventracs in Western North Carolina, I miss it! Great video man. Be sure to keep the inner tires at 10 psi and the outter duels at 5, grease the belly bar and articulating cylinder. Take care! -Steve
I would love a ventrac if they were around $10,000. The none conventional loaded is a no go and proprietary attatchements hurts too. But I'd love the 8x8 on my hills
I have been a fan of the Ventrac for several years. I grew up using the old Gravelys which were tougher than nails, The Ventrac is a modern and more user friendly peice of equipment than the old Gravely and just as tough. I will be buying a Ventrac for my ranch later this year. Thanks for the great video, Paul
That thing is a thickets worst nightmare. That car is mine. I liver in a neighborhood with idiots with those cars and that BOOM BOOM BOOM crap too. Don't get me wrong, I like my fast cars and loud music, but I want my car to sound like a monster not a sewing machine on steroids and I want to understand the music not just hear BOOM BOOM BOOM
lol Mighty Mighty BossTrac lol....I love it....gonna put all these suggestions to a vote on Wednesday's live stream between 7p and 8p after I get my work done
You are probably 1 of top 5 most helpful, relatable and fun homesteading/farming channels out there! Thanks for each awesome topic!! I have to buy or lease one in the future. Added yet another one of your videos to my Channel for others. 😉
"Sometimes things break on the farm". You sound like my farmhand, Josh. He always says "It broke". Can't seem to differentiate between operator error and breakage from wear and tear. The buck stops with the guy who had his head in the clouds. Love that little tractor. Might trade my 5055E for one like that.
I believe you will get really good at fixing tires. FEL bucket is kind of useless with no dumping height. The rake and brush mower attachment appears to work really well. Looking forward to seeing the lawn mower attachment at work
Josh I wish I’d have seen this a few years ago. I purchased a zero turn for my place. I’m now looking for someone to till up a garden for me. If I had that I wouldn’t have to worry about asking anyone! Love it!!
thanks for the honest review of the ventrac ive always tried to find honest reviews of them but cant find any... ive made my mind... I WANT ONE I NEED ONE keep up the good work
Tractor Time with Tim went to the factory and showed how they're put together. My biggest downside to them is how everything connects. Proprietary accessories are costly, not to mention 3 point has been around forever. I can see if you had the bank roll to purchase one and all the attachments, go for it. Another plus is the roll over rate the ventrac has over a conventional tractor.
Might as well call it the beast. I just got a 1999 dodge 3500 with the Cummins diesel it is loud it has 5' exhaust from the turbo with a stack can't wait to tear the stack off and put the noise out the back tail pipe
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I IF I had the room I would try a bit of permanent culture fruit trees bushes and veg all in layers kind of like a woodland of rats loads of mulch to create a forest floor herbs and edibles that self seed
I'd have to go with Billy Goat as for the name of it. That is a nice machine. I just had a guy come clear some of my property with a Skid steer and a foresty mower, it was basically a heavy bush hog. Not quite the kind that you had that was the drum style. It cust up to 6 inches in diameter. I saw you can buy one of these for around 4-8 grand for a skid steer.
We have Steiners on our family farm (There essentially the same tractor) The people that own Ventrac used to own Steiner but they soled the company. Just like yours they are very tough machines!
Cronus=Greek god of agriculture, leader and the youngest of the first generation of Titans and father of the Titans. Not to be confused with Cronos, god of time.
Great video! You have me sincerely trying justify selling my 3 yr old Kubota L2501 with loader and brush hog and selling my 2 yr old Exmark zero turn. Then buying a Ventrac 4500 with a bucket, rough cut and lawn mower and a rake.. I wonder how much I will lose $ to make this change.and is it worth it for 13 acres?
Sand will not help hold moisture if anything it will be worse, ever notice how sandy soil dries out quickest? Because the water just goes through the sand and doesn't hold it
I live next to a divided 4 lane, first ring suburb, highway. I hear semis jake braking all day long and the Harley's going home at bar closing time. My first few years here there were some young guys with souped up Honda's, Mazda & Toyota cars that would run thw quarter mile from one stop light to another. So obnoxious.
Josh, what is your ultimate end goal for your farm?....like...chickens, beef, dairy, vegetables?....we are starting a first generation farm as well and hope to have a small micro dairy with a farmstead creamery (Maple Ridge Dairy is my other profile). Your videos are quite familiar as we are doing similar stuff right now as well.
Waiting to hear about the well. I have rental property also. Have a house in town and a house in the country. Both older but I've spent a goodly amount of money. Better than the neighbors. But I digress. Both have wells under them, hand dug, rock lined. One is 33 feet deep the other is 58 feet deep. If I knew they would drink from outside hydrant I'd hook them along with commode to well. I figure I'm safe they won't drink from commode but if they do what are they expect fluoride 😂😂😂🥃🥃🥃
I always learn things from your videos. I used to do industrial hygiene consulting. I'm concerned that the Ventrac ROPS is too short for your 6'3" height.
What a cool little tractor! Thing works great josh! By the way how do you like those 3m Bluetooth headphones? I run heavy equipment and I love mine. Farm looks great as always!
Chris Garcia my 3m were great but I recently upgraded to Bose qc35 they blow the 3m out of the water! Definitely the best piece of equipment I have ever purchased!
This whole video sounds like a commercial. I can't begrudge you cutting deals for the use of farm equipment but at least be upfront about it and say so. Sorry to say, I think this whole video was beneath you and cheapens your channel. Granted, I did not watch all the way to the end. There may be some caveat that you announced toward the end. But I couldn't stand getting to the end.
Whenever you are ready to disconnect the hydraulics power down and move the hydraulic lever that will release the pressure in the line and you will be able to connect the lines. I had same experience as you had when we got our Ventrac from the factory. Ventrac actually has a video about this on their website. I guess people at dealerships don’t always know this. If you don’t do that you will have to loosen a line to release the pressure. Enjoying your work and enthusiasm.
That Ventrac is a pretty awesome machine, it's a real workhorse, no doubt about it! Pretty cool little tractor, keep up the great work Josh, love your videos!
I'd bite the bullet and build a machine shed on the farm. Tall enough to store roundtables 2 tall. Dirt floor be fine. Sliding doors on the front way cheaper than a overhead door. And boom room for everything to be stored inside in one nice building. That looks good instead of outside or in cobbled together small buildings
Not sure how the Ventrac works but anytime I unhook quick couplers, I turn the key on and hold the button down and according the mechanic, that allows the fluid to drain back into the tank.
It looks like the rough cut mower splintered the base of the brush. This is good as they will be less likely to puncture tires next time you cut the area. On your prior video about the tiller It appeared the ventrac created less large clods and thus finer dirt. How will you make rows or seed the corn.
The Ventrac would probably suit us well. We are referred to as "Hobby-Farmers" because we have less than 20 acres. Would work well in the orchard where a tractor doesn't work with the amount of rain we've get. I think leasing one is the best way to find out if it suits one's needs. I agree with Honey Badger for a name.
If your planning on spreading that lime stone on your garden, proceed with caution. Dolomite lime will lower the soil ph level so it's only beneficial when your ph is too high. If your ph is balanced then you will cause a negative affect by spreading it.
In my area...on most every farm....lime is put down in the spring and fall to correct the Ph of the soil....my soil's Ph is 4.2...a far cry form 6-7....while there are many holistic ways to correct the soil's Ph....Grass simply won't grow around here without it....I use a product called "solucal" ...it's different than lime and has done a great job restoring my soil's Ph on the 1/16th of an inch of top soil we have left....so much science to the soil...I agree with you....a more holistic approach to correcting the Ph should be taken...hence....spreading rock dust on the land instead of lime....it just might work...fingers crossed over here!
hi thanks for all of your videos, i have a kobota b6000 when i was 10 years old to present, and i make some stuff for it, Kobota is really cool but the one you have is amazing. also i like to work for you in a farm like yours
yeah the kubota engines from 6.9hp to 9.6hp gas and diesel kubota engines sells for $450.00 and the 10.5 up to 23.4hp is $1,799.00 and the 25tp 39hp goes for $1,900.00 and the larger 108hp up to 135hp is $2,300 and 141-171hp is $4,100 to $ 5,100.00 wich not bad for kubota engines woooooo
