Today we talk about the many reasons as to why many Americans end up hating living in Mexico. Many are not prepared to what it really means to live in another country and eventually end up resenting their decision and move back home. #mexico #livinginmexico #expat

I agree. I hated going to the mailbox. Homeowners insurance went from $5,000 to $9,000 in one year. Every time you feel you are doing ok, something else goes up. Things out of your control. I got sick of the constant work yourself into the grave. And we weren’t live extravagantly. Work. Eat.sleep. Next day is the same. No quality of life.

I am in Mexico now and I love it! Best place ever but then I am a Latino myself. The best thing about Mexico are the people, they are very polite and helpful and friendly - in the UK, they're miserable bastards for the most part and their famed politeness is disappearing by the generation.

Here in Mexico I’ve found both a level of comfort and freedom, whereas in the U.S. I noticed both decreasing levels of comfort and freedom. Jose, I love your perspective to why a person would chose to live in Mexico or another similar country. The concept of freedom and what that means to the individual versus comfort. I’ve been living in Latin America for almost three years most of that time in Mexico and coming here was one of the best decisions of my life. Having an affordable lifestyle was one of my top priorities. I struggled in the US because I was always poor, could never save any money, not because I lived an extravagant life, but all my income went to taking care of myself and my families basic needs. Now I am actually free from financial stress and can save a little money each month. My other biggest freedom is being able to always have access to affordable healthcare, something that was mostly out of my reach in the states. I recently found that there is a natural form of a medicine available here that isn’t available in the states because it isn’t FDA approved, yet the synthetic version is readily available there. Some costs here have increased because the peso is stronger against the dollar, but I’ve still been able to make ends meet with no problem and come out ahead each month, so Mexico is still for me a better financial choice and a better choice for a healthier happier and freer life! Thanks for the great videos!

Very well said Jose! Moving to another country should be because you like the language, culture, food, music, art, people, etc., NOT because you think you can live like a King or a Queen. Sure, you can rent or buy a beautiful home, but unless you want to live and die in it, the real world is waiting outside your door. Not wanting to speak the language if you live there, is like watching a blurry movie WiTH NO SOUND! What's the point? Just stay in your own Country and downgrade to a smaller house or get a cheap apartment in a rural area of any state. You will have a lot of freedom, too. The way you titled this caught my attention, but listening to you speak throughout the entire video felt like I was listening to the best advertisement for Mexico that I could've ever heard. I've been thinking about moving from California to Mexico for a while now, and I'm going to go visit some of my family there soon because I've never been across the border, but this alone made me feel a whole lot better. My mom is from Mexico and my dad is from here and I was born here. I've been all around this country through the military as well as seeing my dad's side of the family, my mom's side of the family lives here in California. I've seen enough of this country to know that it's not what I thought it was when I was growing up. There are pros and cons for sure, like you said there's the cost of freedom vs comfort, it's far from all bad here, but I haven't identified with the culture around me here in a long time. It's been my dream to travel the world and see all the beautiful mountains and deserts and oceans and cities there are to see, but also to learn from other cultures and peoples and histories, I find it fascinating how similar people are beneath the surface but how differently we present ourselves from one another. I like the idea of freedom in Mexico. I was raised halfway within the culture thanks to my mom and mi abuela y mis tíos y mis primos, but I'm excited to go see it all for myself and become fully immersed. I'm especially looking forward to really having to use my Spanish and get better at it. Anyway, sorry for ranting, I just got more excited than I expected after watching this and I'll definitely have to watch more of your videos since I still have some time before I make my decision. Ha, ha, ha. It varies greatly from one city to the next. In our town. A stop sign really means YIELD! BUT, if you get in an accident from you not making a full 100% stop, then you are the GUILTY PARTY. Oh, and hit an unlicensed motorcyle that never paid for a license Tag, or they hitting you. Well you are automatically at fault regardless of the circumstances and your Insurance has to pay. In Mexico NEVER EVER make ANY move, from a lane change to a turn without turning on your turn signals. That IS your only protection from an accident with motorcycles, or motos! They do not want to get injured, so they will compensate and hold back and not pass you, possibly causing an accident where THEY go to the hospital, and all that pain it will bring them! Next, because you are turning onto a one way street. You had better look both ways, because some car from out of town, that havent seen the Red Arrow painted on the corner house wall, or motorcylist, moto owner not respecting that might be coming down a one way street on the wrong side of the street!

Jose, very appropriate about living in their Bubble. Goes for all of us when we travel, anywhere in the World. Need to get out on your own to assimulate and absorb. I first learned about getting out of your bubble, when I traveled 1300 miles up the ALCAN Hwy. with my buddy in my early 20s to Alaska. But, here in Mexico there ARE a lot of plusses to getting out of your bubble. You will learn a more advanced culture, that is more polite, more considerate, better than our hodge podge, Me First society in USA. You will also learn, to Let live to Let live, let stuff just fall off your shoulder and not get so upset. Standard rule down here, when things dont go according to plan. Es Mexico, si ! @JoseArteagaTravels

No it is not. You should always secure your camera to a place like the dashboard and if using your phone make sure it is in a phone holder so you can use it without your hands. Cops out here are not constantly looking for people committing infractions just to ticket them, but if you are using them and they catch you, many times you will just be given a verbal warning, at worse just a fine. It is a minor traffic infraction after all.

And I would say 60 to 70% of Mexican don't believe a word of what's on TV. And media's have a very low impact on elections, word of mouth is more powerful there. Compare this to my Canada where 80% of people believe TV is a god that is always right.

I am not sure about that, but I would heed the caution just in case. With that being said if there is a minor increase in petty crime then just use common sense to avoid the danger. If you do not know what to do then watch some youtube videos on the subject. In the end it is still much safer than walking through most US cities these days so if you already come from a crime ridden city in the US just use the same tactics and knowledge to remain safe. Once you arrive in Oaxaca you will see how overblown most of the negative stories about Mexico really are.

It seems that a lot of Hispanic Americans at least in Texas are taken back by the idea of Hispanic Americans moving to Mexico or another country in Latin America. They usually say something along the lines of "They want to come over here and you want to go over there". However when a anglo American mentions that they live or are moving to Latin America they say something a little more positive. For example something along the lines of "how exciting, lucky you". There is a double standard among many Hispanic Americans when it come to the idea of expat life. Its almost that they subconsciously think that the expat life style is for other Americans but not for Hispanic Americans. Has anyone else noticed this?

One had to get used to the culture. The police won't do anything if one had noisy neighbors with loud music or barking dog. There is very little traffic enforcement. Most drivers had no insurance. There are lots of street crimes and police did nothing. One would hire security to guard the house, or build high fences. It is difficult to hire any workers to do repair. Utility company will take days for service. One may not find all the foods available in the market. It is also difficult to find premium appliance or even air conditioning system. Internet service are super slow. Not sure if Amazon is even available. Not all the cities had car dealers to service all makes of cars. Even finding tires are difficult. Most cities did not looked even half clean or decent like your video. Most houses, streets are old and dirty.

WHAT does that say about AMERICANS (of course we mean NORTH AMERICANS) ?? THAT they should STAY WHERE THEY ARE ! I am sure MANY SOUTH AMERICANS would have NO trouble living in MEXICO or any other foreign country. ISN'T THAT INTERESTING ?
