Have to agree with your longevity statement, I am second owner of a gen 3 4runner 5 speed manual, picked it up with 157,000 miles and now it is coming up on 250,000. I do all scheduled maintenance myself but major things (timing belt, clutch, rear spline gear replacement) are all done by a local toyota shop. I DO love the Gladiator, we rented one for our trip to Sedona last May, and the only detractor was the turning radius, other than that we off roaded it, freeway drove it, and had zero complaints. Thanks for doing your videos.

I’ve had mine for 2 years now. The only issue I’ve had is the “green” Auto Start/Stop. Dashboard and instrument panel lit up like a Christmas tree. Since disabling it, no problems. Since I tend to work on my own vehicles and its garaged regularly, I’m looking to get 500k minimum. I’ve put too many mods on this puppy to let her go before that. Good day Rob.

@@robmotiveplus there are two black plastic pins that are vertical under the hood. One is for the hood senser and the other is for the auto start/stop. Disconnect the one pin and all you are left with is an amber ‘A’ light that is easily ignored.

Maybe it's because of close proximity to the beach here in Orlando but I see just as many Gladiators on the road as I do the comparable models of Tacoma. I honestly think it's because of how fun Gladiators and Wranglers are on the beach because you can remove the top/doors.

A few additional problems to add: rear glass seal leaking and paint bubbling on alum panels. The back glass has a known problem of the seal being incorrectly installed at the factory causing leaks. Normally requires back glass replacement (mine is going to dealer for this next week). Also just saw a class action suit filed that includes gladiators for aluminum corroding under the paint. Not as knowledgeable on this but it has been an ongoing issue with Wranglers.

These are ridiculous quality problems that should have been fixed a few years ago. I'm glad I don't own a Wrangler or Gladiator. My silly parents pushed and hounded me to buy the plug in hybrid 4XE, which is a ludicrous $65,000-75,000 no matter where I looked. Nope, cannot afford it and have never seen the hybrid on the streets of my city ever since its release. And then I heard about mass recalls from other owners and sometimes they failed. The entire electrical system left them stranded by the road. I have given up on this brand and will never spend my hard earned money on a "Jeep." The brand has gone down the drain and is no longer a Chrysler product. It is owned by a massive brand called Stellantis and from what I've heard recently the CEO of that brand doesn't know how to run a car brand. He just acquires brands so he can make money.

I have to laugh when someone asks how long a vehicle will last. As a vintage car mechanic who works on everything from 100 year old Model Ts to '70s vehicles, if you don't live in the rust belt, and the vehicle doesn't get crashed, there is really no limit to how long a vehicle can last. It's just a matter of continuously replacing worn out parts. Of course, that doesn't really work very well on late model computerized vehicles. They were designed from the ground up to be short lived and disposable. My truck is a 1968 Ford F100, with a 360 V8 and a C6 auto. Standard cab longbed. Built like a tank out of heavy steel. I've owned it for more than 30 years. I installed A/C in it using aftermarket parts. Yes, I've replaced the engine and the transmission, and a number of other parts. Parts for this truck are inexpensive and they literally grow on trees. I can replace an engine or a transmission over a weekend, taking my time. I don't work on transmissions, but I can rebuild an engine in a week, better than new. There are no computerized parts on it. It even has points and condenser ignition. I see no reason why this truck can't last another 100 years. And do it reliably and inexpensively.

Made a trip from Ohio to Los Angeles and back in September. Going out was fantastic. Even driving straight into the wind climbing from Western Kansas into Colorado was fine. Coming back was another problem. Strong winds chased us all the way back to Oklahoma. Really bad crossing the bridge above the Hoover Dam. Seriously thought we were going over the side. I was white knuckle driving all the way in to Albuquerque that night. Never experienced anything like it before, and I used to tow a 24’ sailboat. Aside from that it was a comfortable ride…the seats are really supportive, cruise control is amazing, and the look ahead features in the 8.4” nav system were awesome…especially when seeking out gasoline prices and location. I was really thankful for the Tyger bed cover that let me load up the back with luggage, gifts, and goodies I recovered from my inherited property in Pahrump, NV. Most positive was better gas mileage than I got out of my trade-in 2007 Dodge Dakota. Up to 25 mpg on some legs. Pretty happy about that.

I have a mojave, and yeah, steering does wander. This is worse in the wind. However, I don't really mind it because I can still control it. But that's all about the driver. Heat is just fine. I was reluctant to buy the 2020 because of its first year status, but as the salesperson pointed out, a large percentage of the vehicle is a direct carryover from the Wrangler. I think maybe Jeep overestimated how popular the Gladiator would be. Early on the dealers didn't help; they threw Huge lift kits on the stock cars so they could mark them up more. Then Covid and now the chip shortage and high prices on cars have slowed sales. But, it is gaining momentum as you said, I can't hardly go anywhere without seeing another one. The advantage of the Gladiator is it's a unique mix of features that no other modern truck or offroad vehicle can match. It would be better for everyone if they embraced it's unique nature and accepted that it was going to have a smaller, but enthusiastic market appeal. If they do that, it can and will continue to evolve and become much beloved like the Wrangler itself.

The fire issue was with the manual transmissions and has been fixed with a recall. All new cars suffer from issues because they are way too complicated for their own good, doesn't matter which company you buy a car from. Jeep is the only new vehicle I like despite the few issues they have.

Aloha and good evening Rob 🙏 ✨. I didn't realize that the Jeep Gladiator life expectancy was shorter than the Toyota Tacoma. Yet, the Gladiator is a very cool midsize truck along with the Tacoma. My Toyota Corolla is now 21-years strong 💪 as she still goes to taking me as needed. The problems that you addressed are truly concerning indeed. Yet, I'm hoping that Stellantis corrects these issues in making the Gladiator a worthwhile investment. Spending large sums of money on the purchase for the Gladiator should be worthwhile for more than 200k miles. This was an eye opener for me. Yet, I need to consider the points you stated. 🤔 Great video Rob.

I had the steering wander. Had the tsb done, fixed the problem, it was like.night and day. Also, bring the tires down to around 33-34 lbs. The dealers put in 38-40, it's too much, especially for A/T tires. Just lowering the pressure a bit makes a difference in the wander.

Just a thought on the steering issue. It sound like an alignment issue to me. If you toe is neutral or toed out, this will cause the wandering issue. Solid axle vehicles should be toed in about 1/8" of an inch. This will insure you steering is as it should be. I have a 95 XJ lifted 4.5" with 33" tires and it tracks like its on rails. My thoughts in this matter, IMHO. God bless, stay well.
