I’m going to show you why they called this Death highway. We experienced driving this road on a rainy day and not aware of the dangers ahead. Someone we met at Nakelele blowhole recommended and he said it’s a scenic drive that we should not miss so we proceeded. The road is 21 mile long , it’s paved but just one lane with a sheer cliff on the other side and no guardrails. There are lots of blind turns and narrow passages. If there’s an incoming car , we have to stop or other way around. One car has to back up for about 200 meters in order for us to get through.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed the sweeping views of the untouched coastline , the beautiful mountains and valley of Maui.
Take note, if you are planning to drive this road, make sure that it’s covered by your car insurance.
