As a Madlib/JDilla/DJ Shadow fan, I get the appeal of hip hop instrumental albums. That market is out there. I’m not sure if it’s hot enough to justify pressing the Ready to Die instrumentals. I guess we will see.
Rap wise, I'm super hyped up for : Devin The Dude Murder was the Case Mic Geronimo Snoop - The Blue Carpet Treatment Maybe the Nas & the Freddie Gibbs re-issue
Good video. Enjoyed it. The 2022 RSD release for Def Leppard was Live in Oxford 1980 and can still be bought via Discogs for face value or less. It's an excellent document of them on their first and heaviest album and would recommend. The versions on there are mostly better than the actual On Through the Night album. I was actually also at the Leadmill show which was a small club show and the setlist was quite different to their usual with deeper cuts like Mirror Mirror off High n Dry.
There seem to be mixed feelings about the RSD out there. I understand your thoughts completely. But there are a couple of items that I want this year. For sure, I am going to go to my small local store. - Heather
I was looking forward to the Motley Crue album until I saw it was a picture disc. I’ll probably just pick up the CD until a standard pressing gets released.
Thanks for the video - thought there was plenty for everyone on this years RSD list. However do agree with too many pointless picture discs. Got my eye on Propaganda, Electrafixion and Pete Murphy from the UK list.
Picture discs and live albums?! The end is nigh for RSD day unless they start listening to collectors and asking them what they would like to see released, instead of churning out the same old stuff time and time again just in a different vinyl format, It’s either pic disc or a different colour than the one they put out last year that you already bought, but never something that collectors are really after!!!!
Wait we don't like picture discs? Over played? Or other reason? Guess given black or pictures? Why not pictures? It's unique to vinyl and like more photos. Are photos also bad on lyric sheets and the covers?
My daughter has gotten me into Taylor Swift in the last couple of years. I think the biggest disappointment is not releasing the 3am version of midnights. That's a lot of songs that are missing on vinyl. Think that would be a perfect RSD release.
Personally the live albums are always among the things I look forward to the most and the things that make the most sense to me as limited releases. The owner of the record store I work for asked a contact at Warner why The Cure always release picture discs for RSD. Apparently it's because Robert Smith personally collects them and wants to have all of The Cure's albums released on picture disc. My thinking is if Robert Smith wants The Cure's albums on picture disc he should have them. They always wind up releasing standard versions later anyway. All I'm going to say about Rumours on picture disc is that for as much as guys like us are going to complain about it every record store in the country could still sell at least 5 copies of it. My thinking about the really big albums people want to see like say the self titled Alice In Chains album is those need to not be limited releases. That's how prices skyrocket and flippers show up to ruin it for everyone. I'm happier to just a long list of solid releases die hards will want and I think that's what we got this year.
Remember 10 years ago when RSD used to have lots of cool singles like the mystery one where it would be the original song on one side and then a surprise band playing the song on the other side with really cool vinyl colors. What happened to all that cool stuff? Back then I could only afford singles on RSD and there were always a lot of really cool ones. Now theres 1 or 2 and no mystery singles for years now
Respectfully I’d have to disagree. Sorry for the wait by Wayne is a banger. It’s not even an album, it’s a mixtape. Top 3 mixtapes by him for sure. Right next to no ceilings
Nick, I totally agree with your take on the Def Leppard release. If it was from the 80's, I would have wanted it!. Either RSD isn't aware of people's dislike of picture discs, or they just don't care. I love live albums myself. I think my collection is loaded with them! Lol!
I’m a fan of picture discs/coloured vinyls but bearing in mind that many people don’t actually play them they’re too expensive for essentially a wall hanging or something that’ll sit in a box. If you’re releasing stuff for record playing people then offering a choice of formats would be better.
A lot of complaints about the prices. $46 for PJ @ 15000 copies, but I guess since the black wax is going to be $40. And $60 for Tesla? On a side topic, how are single discs on black vinyl now going for $40?
Crying and whining endlessly about Taylor Swift not having a release on record. Store day is absolutely ridiculous. It’s a bunch of kids waiting in line for one album that she made that’s way overpriced and I have to stand in line behind all of them and they are beyond annoying record store day should be for record collectors, and to support our favorite record stores.
Oliva Rodriquez is dropping a release on RSD.I think we will get a Taylor release but it has not been announced yet. The lines will be long for sure now.
