Violet has two main themes: Love, and loss. It encompasses both of those feelings in every episode, there's always at least one scene or character that hits you on a personal level.
I love how the entire show parallels Violets own story and emotional progress, every episode is dedicated to a new form of Love, and a new form of Loss, and understanding the relationship between the two. Why losing the things we love hurts, and violet is slowly understanding that.
Violet has certainly come a long way from “I never had any parents, so I don’t need replacements” to “but then the girl won’t get to go back to her father!”
I saw a different translation of the scene where Violet apologizes to Lady Evergarden, where instead of “I sincerely apologize for hurting your feelings” she says “It was never my intention to cause harm”, and that feels much more poignant considering the things she’s done and her newfound empathy. It isn’t necessarily obvious yet, but for how expressionless Violet is, there are two character traits she has always clearly had: she likes looking at beautiful imagery, and she enjoys reading.
Violet flying tru the lake had a very studio Ghibli feel to it. It's interesting how they paralleled the play at the start, with one of the characters saying "I have to live with my sins" then they drew it back to Violet burning with guilt of all she's done. Great writing.

I agree, ladies. This was probably my favorite episode as well, it was so beautiful sad and emotional. The lake scene was so majestic and breathtaking, I couldn't help but get teary-eyed. I too, love how Violet is experiencing different spectrum of love and emotions. It will help become a much more rounded and adjusted person.
A detail I like that unfortunately gets overlooked is that Violet wasn’t trained or forced to ignore the brutality of her actions, she just never considered how it was hurting people. She isn’t relearning empathy, it’s hitting her for the first time, and it’s hitting her hard.
Beautiful episode, very heartbreaking. Lake scene was a major KyoAni FLEX 💪! Violet doesn't even get a break as she realizes the weight of her actions and then gets a bomb dropped on her by Evergarden lady.
Another interesting detail of the show is that a lot of the characters assumed dead so far are really just “missing in action”. Luculia’s parents, Leon’s parents, and Hugo all are. We don’t know that Lady Evergarden’s son or Ann’s father aren’t just MIA as well. Finding ID tags is a lot more definitive than finding nothing, yet Gilbert is the only one we really question if they’re still alive.

Empathy is hard. As she heals from her trauma or "training" her defences are also getting stripped away like an onion, so she can feel like a person. Hard to watch. My eyes were sweaty
Well done Morgan for being the first person I’ve ever seen realize on first viewing that Violet’s been deep in thought because she’s dwelling on Dietfried’s comments. Funny contrast with Sam being late to realize that’s the playwright, but that’s actually pretty common lol Predicting the daughter drowned is more common than predicting she got the same illness as her mother. When the question of “who did he lose” came up, it was the second or third time the shot focused on his wedding ring. A lot of the episodes have misdirects, this one’s being that you’re supposed to guess Violet reminds Oscar of his wife, before revealing it’s his daughter.

This show is so emotional and beautiful executed that I have damn near got misty-eyed every episode. I have become very emotional attached Violet's development, I need that girl to win and be alright.
Losing a child is one of the worst things anyone could go through. Always hits in anything I see. Especially to a slow disease. I wish no one had to go through that.
This episode, and then 9 and 10 are the ones that get me the most. Episode 9 is the one that made me have to take a mental break. Binging episodes for this series was not the best of ideas. But I love this series so much.
Violet was trained to be an emotionless child soldier from early on. But now, as she begins to understand human emotions and empathy, the guilt unavoidably seems to kick in. Just as Hodgekins predicted it. Man, this story is so great and beautiful 😢
