Most Entertaining Fall! At A Horse Show! 

She definitely won BEST Sportsmanship award from us. I love Gabby's maturity level. She has grown tremendously and I think now she And Chino work together..they are understanding each other more. That could have ended very badly for Gabby and Chino but instead it turned out to be a wonderful lesson

Oh goodness, I am glad she is alright. It happens at all levels of riding. Hey, I just finished pony finals, and I would love for Gabby to watch my pony finals vlog. I think it is cool that we compete in two different countries, as the horse shows are so different.

Since chino only wants grass, maybe yoh can bring him home after champs so he can have a LONG NOCE break to gain weight and relax

Regarding Chino’s weight, not sure if he’s already on a preventative but it might be worth getting him checked for ulcers… even though he doesn’t have any classic behavioral issues (that I’ve noticed) such as girthiness, bucking, etc. the unexplained weight loss and reduced appetite could very well be a result of ulcers! Anytime my TB loses weight, ulcers are typically to blame ☺️

Gabby should be so so proud of herself, her maturity,horsemanship and concern for her horse were amazing, as well as how she didn't let it faze her and just kept going. Congrats Gabby 🏆🥇🏅

Gabby should be really proud about how she handled that. I’ve seen a lot of riders at shows fall once and then refuse to get back on and ride the rest of their rounds, so the fact that Gabby didn’t let it shake her and she just got back on and tried her best to get Chino over that jump is a huge accomplishment. I’m so glad she was able to joke about it later too instead of letting it make her really nervous and deciding to scratch from the rest of her rounds.

Most of everything is not a horse problem, it's a health thing, training hole, or a human problem. So basically 99% people problem because it's the human's responsibility to take care of it and take action. We've got the big brain, it's our responsibility. Gadgets can be useful, but they can also disguise issues rather than TRUELY fix them. Do what your gonna do, though. Not my horse.

Great job Gabby and you really showed good horsemanship. ☺️ I also fell of my horse the first time in a show, he jumped big and I landed on his neck and “slide” around so I fell off in front of his legs in canter 🙈 but my horse stopped and luckily did not step on me. The picture and the video are a bit scary from that fall but I was totally fine 😅 It was in 2014 so long ago.

Best thing to do after this happens is buy or DIY the exact same fillers at home and start by not putting them as the fence but to the side then gradually moving them in wards until its a filler jump. I jumped 4.3ft affiliated fox hunter discovery level for years (UK) and my star horse an ex racer too, had filler issues when i first got him straight off the race track! So i made my own out of old bits of wood, doors, pallets etc, and painted on scary monsters with eyes, bright multicolored patterns i even had a mate who's a tattoo artist, paint some 3D looking patterns and pictures on them. I put some in his field and i used two and put them either side of his food bowl and made him eat inbetween the two fillers, i put them outside his stable. You name it put them there to desensitize him and in 1wk he never spooked or refused a filler again, ever!

Gabby was very entertaining; even as a sweet mama looking after her baby. Chino was sweet looking after his girl, too. He could've easily thrown her off because he was genuinely scared of that jump. So proud of Gabby for her level of maturity & understanding. Bravo!👏👏👏👏

Gabby definitely did good! Even with her falling and refusing, she kept herself together and didn’t freak out and get mad at him. That’s is good sportsmanship because I’ve seen so many people get mad at their horse when they fall off. When I showed on Friday, it was the best show I’ve ever done!!!! 1st place in the 2 classes with my mini and 3rd in Barrel Racing, sorry if it seems like I’m bragging, I’m not. ❤️❤️

Gabby definitely won for best sportsmanship. When she fell off she did not look embarrassed and was not upset at all. It was definitely a lesson learned, it could have ended out very badly for Gabby and/or Chino. But instead they both walked out of the ring with a learning experience and lesson. Gabby definitely won in my eyes!!

Gabby and chino have definitely come a long way, with Gabby being confident rider. Gabby and chino make a great team.

I’m assuming you tried the bit first time ever at the horse show. That’s like the worst time to try something new lol. I heard Chino opens his mouth a lot while riding. Maybe continue with a normal bit BUT add a flash (google if u dont know) to your bridle’s noseband. If i saw correctly, you can’t add it to your current bridle, but there are ones at sale where you can add it. A flash keeps horse from opening its mouth and keeps the bit steady

Certainly an entertaining show, but the most important thing is that both Gabby and Chino are ok 😊👍🏻 in terms of Chino’s weight, he looks ok, but has lost some, does he eat all his hay at night, if so then perhaps it’s different to the round bale stuff in the fields, so you could ask the barn owner to increase his night time hay ration, as well as the increase in grain 😊 I’m assuming you aren’t allowed a breastplate in hunters to help with the saddle slipping back? TBH I’ve always been a little surprised that Finn’s saddle fits Chino as he has a much higher wither and I wouldn’t have thought he’s as wide, maybe an additional half pad would help temporarily or one that you can put shims in? How exciting too that Gabby will be going to champs 👍🏻

Chino might need his teeth floated. If his teeth are sharp then it might hurt to eat sometimes. It might be worth having Fiona or Brandon check if they can. Just to be safe and make sure he's comfortable.

You know stuff’s happening when they hit us with “5am and we are in trouble” 😂😂 I wish I could be early for a horse show, no matter how early I leave I always seem to have to go in and compete before I’ve had enough time to warm up. I’m dreading the showjumping competitions when we finally get there, not because I’m nervous, I think I’ll trust her enough by the time I get to jumping shows (although I can tell you I will be nervous on the day 🥲) but the warm up is so stressful! I hate them so much they are the worst places to ride. Oh and I’m also dreading getting numbers because I have to have a good number too or I’ll be extra nervous even tho I know they mean nothing I’ll still be terrified if I get a number ending with 1,2,4,6,8,9 😂 only a small window for a good number I guess

That wasn’t a fall Laura, that was dismounting with a touch of style lol! Chino is an amazing horse but I’ve noticed that he loses confidence and I think that’s what happened here, he didn’t feel prepared to jump it the first time and then both him and Gabby were unsure the next few times leading to the refusals. Gabby handled it great though, she didn’t lash out at him or get mad because he acted like a horse with emotions instead of a complete machine. I’ve had days where me and my mare wouldn’t agree and believe me she will put someone in their place if they aren’t cooperating with her, that day it was all refusals, drive by’s, and when she did jump it was with adding in a stride, taking a long, or just jumping it like a deer. We also have amazing rides where she’ll do anything I ask and she won’t complain because she is enjoying the work. On a completely different note the longhorn steer I was interested in just sold, luckily the breeders said I could tell them what I was interested and they try to find one that works for me, I thought that steer was perfect but if it was then it wouldn’t have sold so now I just need to wait until that perfect steer comes my way!
