Hello everyone and welcome to another declutter with…thats right…momma Robyn! I have been helping my parents declutter for a little over a year now, on and off! It's taken a while to get to where we are today because we have been decluttering 30+ years of stuff and my parents A.) have never decluttered before and B.) only want to downsize a little! Their journey is different from mine, I have been on a minimalism journey, where minimalism is not my parents goal, they simply just want to downsize & be more minimal! Because they have had their belongings for so many years, there is more of an emotional attachment to their items which makes it more difficult to let go of and declutter, however, slowly but surely we're getting there and we are meeting my parents' decluttering goals. We still have a little (LOL) more work to do over there, but the progress they’ve made is AMAZING! So proud of them, they're doing a fantastic job! Today we are tackling some clutter zones, there's a couple of areas that have really been bugging my mom, so that’s what we’re decluttering today! Satisfying before & afters and a ton of decluttering motivation! Hope you enjoy today's video, we luv & appreciate you so much!

I agree with Mom that keeping stuff in the original containers is the best way to go, especially since the container you are putting stuff into is too small to contain all the contents of the original, so you end up having to figure out where to keep TWO containers instead of just one. A note on the medication: I would NOT keep them above the stove! Heat degrades the effectiveness of vitamins/medication! (I would not keep my spices there either, for the same reason.)

OMG - you and your Mum is like watching Ethel and Lucy from “I Love Lucy”… and it’s also pretty sweet to watch a mother/daughter relationship where you genuinely appreciate each other and have a sense of humour about each other… priceless memories. Your Mom did SO great! I hope I can do as well as she is doing! I laughed SOOO hard at the faux Pringle/chip can opening. I kept thinking before you opened it that there was SOME reason you shouldn't. ROFL You both are so much fun to watch and you both are inspirational. I'm with your mom on keeping stuff in it's original container haha! It let's you know what the best by date is and I found that the containers from the store always had more volume than the fancy aftermarket ones so then I have to store a 1/4 full spice jar anyway haha!

Funny! I gotta agree with Mom about the spices. It seems to me when you take them out of the original container, you lose the out date date, you lose the text on what all you can use the spice for, you lose the brand name and the quality isn't always the same, and when you add on top, you might be adding new spice to old spice...etc...My husband always wanted to buy the huge containers at Sam's, but, I have had to throw some of it away because it gets stale before you can use it all.

I was laughing so hard, my mom is like "why? why on earth would you transfer seasonings" & the only response I could think of was "theres a science to it" LMBO 🤣 No, no theres not! HA! Honestly when I think about it...its doesnt make a whole lot of sense! You and mom have a great point! And I completely forgot to put an exp. date on the jars, I keep forgetting seasonings expire LOL I suppose I think the seasoning jars are pretty LOL but not sure its worth it!? And too funny, my husband is obsessed with this Greek Seasoning, I forget the name, but he always wants to get the HUGE containers from Costco, I told him it would never get used up, it would take years LOL Although Ian likes buying in bilk, like everything in bulk HA! This is so much fun. I love it when you and your mom work together. My grandmother, her daughters and my cousin and I all have a love of china. They are the hardest for me to declutter. They bring memories of happy family times around the table. 😊

You and your mom crack me up! A warning regarding medications and supplements- they should be stored AWAY from the stove- the heat can do one of 2 things- deteriorate or increase the strength of the medication and supplements- look at how to store properly on the back of the bottles. My mom had about 20 sets of dish ware NOT including MATCHING serve ware. And let’s not start with all the Christmas trees and decor, she had the following artificial trees (3 each in different sizes): scotch pine, flocked tree, gold, silver, blue, white, and pre-lit scotch pine and flocked- those were just trees- 24 total, then there were the coordinating ornaments, lights, toppers, tree skirts, etc. Mom also had about 6 sets of cookware and bakeware. Even her fridge and freezers were hoarded- if she saw one empty spot she had to fill it. We went through the entire 1500sqft house and 1500sqft basement and it took months, let alone the 5 huge closets where she hoarded just her clothes. You didn’t see the hoarding unless you opened up closet and cabinet doors, her house was meticulously clean otherwise.

Hallo dani en mam. Ik heb weer genoten van jullie. Wat een stel gekke meiden hoor! 😂😂😂. Maar wat een heerlijke opruiming 😊. Kunnen jullie naar mij komen? Dan word het mij voor ook een heel stuk gezelliger om declutter.🎉🎉🎉 . Door jou Daniël ben ik mijn probleem zone aan het aanpakken. En dat is mijn zolder! Ik ben al 41 jaar getrouwd en twee zonen, dus dan snapt je wat voor troep erop de zolder is. Alles wordt maar bewaard en niemand gooit iets maar weg. Ik ben net als je moeder, het hoeft niet minimalistische te zijn maar opgeruimd en schoon!!!! Even iets tegen je moeder zeggen : Kom aub toch in beeld je bent een schat van een vrouw en je ziet er geweldig uit! Je dochter lijkt zoveel op jou! Jullie hebben een heerlijke humor! En een stel mooie vrouwen!!!! Zo dat had ik maar even gezegd. 😊 Dani bedankt voor je support aan ons. So I'm an on again off again subscriber (as my mood for decluttering and organization waxes and wanes) Though I'm here for the long haul now. As I'm on day 3 of a migraine episode, and can only lay in bed and watch RU-vid and sleep, I've been binge watching your latest videos (Prayers for Ian) and you make me want to jump out of bed (after the migraine ends of course) and tackle the areas in my home/life that I've been putting off. I just want to say that you are an absolute joy to watch, your openess and honesty and sense of humor in this journey is so refreshing and you truly are an inspiration!

Great job, Robin! I'd suggest, if you wanted to keep the dishes that are in the tub, put them where you put the puzzles and put the puzzles out of the kitchen or put them in the tub but out of the kitchen. Non related food items out of the kitchen. Here's something I've tried...if I think I still like something but am not currently using it, put a sticky note on it with a date (could be a year out...maybe more if needed). Next time you clean that area (say it's quite a while) if you haven't used it, you need to get rid of it because it just shows you it wasn't important to begin with or you'd use it. That helps me so much when it's hard to get rid of something I have a hard time letting go of. Good luck.

Danni I commented on your kitchen de clutter that if you have a closet that's close to the kitchen use that for a pantry and also stand alone cabinets store bought. This automatically frees the kitchen cabinets just for dishes and such. Keeping the food out of the cabinets is so much easier and a less cluttered space. This works!

LOVE THIS!!!! Because we dont technically have a pantry we have to use some of the cabinets for food/beverages and its a pain! I wonder how much a stand alone cabinet would be, because that would be AMAZING!!! We dont have a closet near the kitchen, well we have the entry way closet but its AWFUL! Like the most dysfunctional closet EVER! I think my house is dysfunctional 😆 I wish we had a nice closet near the kitchen because that would be ideal! One day if we ever get the funds, Id love to gut the kitchen and extend the kitchen out to the mudroom. Thank you so much for commenting and thanks for being here with us! Great video! Loved the singing 😂 your mom did such a great job! btw, tell your mom, hummingbirds seem to be staying through snowy winters here in Vancouver Canada so I put them out. Have birds fighting over them. It can be hard to keep them from freezing though. I would switch it out throughout the day. Maybe too much work so not sure she would want to lol

I loved seeing you two pull the wishbones. We used to do that when I was growing up, mostly with turkey bones from Thanksgiving & Christmas. There were 4 kids in our family, so Mom would save the bones & whenever there were 2 sets, my siblings & I would do the wish thing. Haven't thought about that in years but it's a fun memory. Thanks for remindig me!

Really enjoyed this video, Danni. Your mum is so funny and sweet. Well done on going through the China. It is never easy to declutter chinaware and ornaments when they have been passed down in the family. The kitchen cupboard and the dresser looked very tidy after you had finished. Yay, Mom's back! AND a sweet puppy? She is adorable!!! I think my clutter zone is the house. I would love to have that cubby above the stove. I'm getting a whole bunch of cast iron cleaned and seasoned and need a different place to store them, now that they will be usable. I'd absolutely put the most used pans there for quick access. Seasonings on a lazy Susan would be my next choice, but I don't like the idea of something falling off the shelf into what I'm cooking. Seasoning and I have a history. They like to attack. Mom with chips 2 Danni 0 I have the same amount of pudding and it's all for baking, lol. Your Mom and I are on the same wavelength there. I'm Team Mom on seasonings. Your set looks amazing and I love seeing it, but I couldn't keep it up. I read somewhere that chefs don't use the fancy jars either. They just keep them in what they came in. I WISH I could use the fancy jars. I DID try once. Failed, but learned the way I work, so that was a good lesson. Y'all find chicken bones like we find old perfume. And then you find perfume! It's a bit scary, but fun. Will it stink? Will it smell good? In the under sink area, think about those screwed down pull out drawer thingy's. Mother loved hers. It made the back of the cabinet easier to access. Dishes, yes! I've been waiting for those dishes to reappear. "Are you seriously going to go through all that stuff?" Yes, we are living for it! Those are treasures. We have a family sick bell that has been passed down. I am a little worried about you going for the green vase and brass critters. Hello, 1970's. BEGS! Mom, you did such a great job! I'm so glad y'all are laughing your way through it together. It make the best memories. It was fun "hanging out" with y'all!

I have to agree eith your mom on the spices on leaving them in their own containers. I have mine in a cabinet next to the stove. I tried putting my spices in a different container, a magnetic container that stuck to the fridge, but they kept sliding down. So i donated them and just leave them in their own containers as we don't use them that much. It eas nice to see you both again. Loved the practical joke your mom fid on you with the chips. You should expect that by now!!😂😂😂

Your Mom is correct; why take a spice out of a original container to put in another container. -waste of time! All you are doing is wasting money on unnecessary containers. Not everything needs a label in a glass container-the original labels are better! Your Mom looks like an amazing cook so of course she needs a lot of items; maybe she needs to limit the number of each good item that she buys. My Mom’s family was also into dishes; my Mom had so many sets from her Mom and Aunt-she ended up passing some on to my Sister in law and niece. It seems to never end with all the figurines as this was popular in their time-no it’s hard to sell them. Great video as always; love your Mom!

My mom was like "why on earth would you transfer seasonings" after thinking about it, the only thing I could say was "there's a science to it" 🤣 no, no there's not lol. When you think about it, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense lol. And I 💯 agree! I think she could limit the amounts or set a boundary for some of her items, esp. Essential or cooking stuff for example. She has a lot of stuff in the house but A LOT of stuff in the kitchen! omg yes, the figurines and the dishware, there's so much of it. It must be a generational thing because my grandmother's and my mom and my mom's aunts, they all had a ton of figurines and dishware. And it's really difficult to figure out what we should do with it, I did take some of my mom's dishware because she really wants me to have it and pass it down, but there's just so much. That's a tough one! And you are so sweet, thank you so much for watching and being here with us 🥰🥰
