Hello everyone!
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video(s)
Please like, subscribe and comment!
This here is my U.S. General 5 drawer cat and Matco 4S toolbox that are absolutely stuffed with tools.
I’m a 17 year old, entering my 2nd year as an apprentice; I collect tools and love cars so I decided to become a mechanic and I love it.
Please note if you’re an apprentice yourself you’re going to need nowhere near this amount of tools and hell even if your master mechanic that just works on Ford or something you never gonna need a lot of these tools either. Collecting tools is a hobby of mine using tools is a hobby of mine and working on cars is a hobby of mine as well as my job!

I'm actually really impressed with what you have. At 17 I was working out of my dad's tool box that had half of what you have lol. You actually have more in tools at such a young age than I have at an old age. Glad to see a young guy so into this that's impressive. I've been basically tearing things apart and fixing everything since I was like 6 years old, I'm 51 now. Been in the business a long time.

Impressive. If I thought I'd be working on cars more I would've started collecting sooner lol. I started in collision when I was 20. Covid hit hard when I was 22 and got let go and I found a transmission shop worked there for 2 years and now I'm a general mechanic at 24. When I was 17 I had a set of Stanley sockets and that's it. So I could work on my car. Should have started collecting sooner lol
@apprenticegoog
@apprenticegoog 2 года назад
One of the biggest motives for me collecting early was I don’t have any bills right now so allows me to spend money on tools and then save money so when it is time to get a house and pick up my own bills like gas, insurance phone etc. I don’t also have the financial burden of tools because I really like working on cars.

when it comes finding a good job that's good paying, friendly environment and enjoyable to work in,I can totally relate 100%,it's not easy,but the jobs are there, another thing that can be frustrating is that the employer a lot of times will either provide you with complete crap tools that very difficult and a pain to work with or the tools will be decent but yet could still be improved, I honestly think you made the right decision by going with better quality tools that work best for you because that's makes a worker more efficient and faster at what they do,keep your head up and do what you can,don't try to reason with the employer,because 9 times out of 10 the employer will act like they're listening to your complaints when they're really not.

You know I was watching one of these videos and a man brought up a very valid point about Allen's. Why do we still use Allen wrenches and tea handles when now? We have bit sockets that we never really did before and you just get so much more torque out of a ratchet that I find myself where I used to always go for the Allen wrenches. Now I just go for the socket unless it's in a very particular position where an Allen wrench would have a advantage to getting to. I go straight for my sockets now but it never really occurred to me before

Some advice if I may, with the increase in hybrids and the relentless push towards electric vehicles, it would be wise to keep developing your diagnostic/troubleshooting skills. Great setup. I’m 20 been in the field for about 3 years now. I’ve always been the one everyone came too for tools because I buy so many even if I don’t need them right then lol. Me and you differ a little bit though cause I hate working on European cars lol 😂 I’m a Subaru tech at a large dealership with 10 franchise brands. Luckily no euro stuff lol. The only euro thing I work on is my classic Aircooled VW Beetle. I love working on cars. I’m not sure what all my tools are worth I’d say $8,000-$10,000 they sure do add up quick. I have tons of brands just like you do too. I don’t care what brand it is if it’s a tool I love it lol. I have lots of Snap-on, Matco, some Mac but we don’t have a Mac dealer. And lots of stuff from the auto parts store and Harbor Freight and Lowes and Home Depot. I seem to love retail store tools lol. Don’t know why. But the important stuff I buy from Snap-on or Matco like wrenches and pliers and ratchets and stuff.

That is not the top of the line klein multimeter that would be their tough meter series and kind does not make tools for home use. They make them for professional use, although most professionals use Klein hand tools or knipex hand tools with fluke multimeters

im 13 just getting into tools but ive been around them for day one. My question is should i buy expensive of the start and take a little to get everything or cheap but i could have everything relatively quick
@apprenticegoog
@apprenticegoog 2 года назад
Buy cheap, you might not know if you wanna do this as a career and it makes it easier to replace with what breaks with expensive

Not entirely true a good bit did come from retired but all separately at flea market and Facebook marketplace. Got the box used from my Matco dealer for 1800 I think so it’s been a process the whole time haha.

@apprenticegoog
@apprenticegoog 2 года назад
Love the support! This is a industry that needs techs, I put in the work, time and money to learn and grow! Let’s be positive because I won’t be an “oil boy” my whole career. At least I show that I care about this field, lots of young techs get into this career because it’s an escape from college and end up being lube techs there whole career becuase they have no motivation. If you watched the video I said about 30 times you don’t need this many tools and I collect tools as a hobby! I have definitely been able to do lots of advanced work with where i worked and what we were doing, I did more engine out services where I last worked than oil changes!
