Yea but power is only half or less important then how it handles, its features, ergonomics and weight. There are tons of saws with less power that out cut saws with 15 more ccs(cs-590 for instance) then it has and when your cutting all day power means jack if you can't lift your arms and you back is a wreak
@dynojoemods2764

@@k-techcowboy4260 I have said that many times. Saw that feels the best and has a sharp chain will get the most wood on the ground.

I've owned 6/8 of these saws and I've settled with the 462. Its the lightest and has the best handling out of the lot. Doesn't feel bulky in your hands. Limbs well due to high rpms and will pull a 32ich bar just fine if your chain is properly sharpened with proper racker depth. Its a brilliant saw for being 72cc. I sold my 500i after 1 week of use as it just wasn't as handy and easy to use as the 462. (found it bulky like a 661) just my personal experience's. 2 and half years of use on my 462 with roughly 50-75 tanks of fuel per year. Not one problem with the saw during my ownership. Food for thought - Mac

I needed a bigger saw for some big oak trees that needed clearing so I made the excuse to but an Echo 7310. I love it along with my other echo saws. I came here to see how it stacks up against the rest. For the money I paid, I'm really happy. I have a 620 and 4910 that I did a muffler mod and carb mod on after about 5 tanks of gas. I'll probably do the same to my 7310. I did get to use a 500i while I worked along side a crew on a job. That's the most impressive saw I've ever used but I didn't want to spend $1,400 on a saw I only need one a year. The saw I use the most is my 4910. It's light, powerful and 100% reliable. I love you videos man, thank you

Great comparison! The 462 really showed up to be down so low on displacement. Just speaks for the engineering of that saw. I run my 462 in hardwoods with a 25-28" bar and full teeth chain and is an awesome saw for felling and limbing in a production environment.

462 has 1.5 cc advantage on the 572XP. The 572XP in the Dyno runs appears to be new out the box. So not run in yet. The MS462 appears as if it has plenty run time to be at the top it's game. I have both. Not spits difference in overall horsepower between the two. It's just what a person likes. I'm not brand loyal either. I like them all. I agree with another comment I read. They 572 is outlasting the 462. It was totally resigned in April of 2021 because pistons were braking as well as bar mounts. Just saying gotta compare apples to apples.
@evanclark7473
@evanclark7473 Год назад
Both are great saws and I would cut with either of them. We haven’t had any issues with our 462’s and they are pre 2021’s. And they are logged with. Not firewood or tree service. Yes the power of both are basically the same. BUT… the 572xp weighs 1-1/2 lbs more than the 462. If I want to pack more weight around then I’ll grab the 500i which still weighs less than the 572 and will smoke them both. So again, nothing wrong with either of those saws I’m just impressed with the power/weight/handling of the 462. The 572 also has great low end power and smooth! Have a blessed day mate!

Great job. Sure gave me insight. And proof in the pudding about the 462 lack of bottom end being a short stroke saw. It's my favorite no doubt for my needs. I wasnt surprised the almighty glorified 500i barely makes more power then a 460,461. That drop in power on the top end like you said amazes me that under load it drops off. Which load is any amount of cutting at that rpm, to drop of and get it to the midrange? I thought that was really interesting how they all have done that when you put load to it. Anyhow I just think you're Dyno runs on these saws is great, keep up the great work!

Awesome comparo again, Joe, hey just something to remember in regards to horsepower differences between all these saws is that a modded muffler on a 372xp would probably make it in the top 3 for power. The best saw is the one you like to operate the most and last the longest, good work Joe.

I love these videos. They really let a person fine tune a saw know how to change porting techniques. Will deff change the game of r/d! So the peaks will be little deceiving. One needs analyze the graph to fine tune a saws performance. The thing that matters the most is what rpm range are you in in the cut!!!.Which saw gas the most hp and torque in that rpm range!! In that scenario the x-torque, and 572 pulled away from other saws with more power and torge in those rpm ranges where saws are ran! The572 and 462 produce the most hp and torque out of all the saws from 9 k to 12k.
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 2 года назад
Exactly. Just a tool to help make changes visible. Each saw will suit some users better than others regardless of the power output. Matching chain to powerhead is a very important piece too. If you run depth gauge at .050 on a 462 it will not like it as well as the 461 and all sorts of other scenarios.

I don’t really like the way the saw performs across the board though. I still use it, of course. My go-to saw is my Holzfforma 372. It has been a reliable saw for about five years now and I love the way it cuts. As others have said, a sharp chain makes the saw. I always carry spare chains and bars. If you get your bar pinched in a tree and you don’t have your heavy equipment handy you can pop your power head off and cut yourself free with your spares.

The 462 edged out the 572 in stock trim. Surprising. The 462 needs that extra 2mm stroke that the 461 has.

I like saws 70cc and larger. I have a 462 and a 441. The 462 feel torquey in comparison to the 441. Even though people complain about the torque of the 462, it is better than a 372. I also have a farmertec 440 and 372. I don't have much have much run time on the 372 so I can't comment on it. I think it is going to be good. The 440 seems to have torque about like a 660. It is a very good cutter.

The saws that make high rpm power will normally feel "light " on tq to a lot of people. The fall from 7hp to 5 is more a loss vs from 5.5 to 4.5. Even though 5 is still more the 4.5 it felt like more of a drop, so that must mean it is less. Hope that makes sense.

Really a good test with even a better expanation. Like the americans say, there is no better subsitude for power than cubic inches. and maybe more important, for torque when you compare the 461 and 462. Maybe a nice upgrade for your video's, give the factory displacement, power and torque and weigth vs your measured numbers. (not for displacement. ) keep up the good work. like your channel very much.

Great video thanks! I'm curious as to why you pull the starter cord when turning the saw off though?
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 2 года назад
Supposed to reduce the wear and tear on the starter pawls. When some saws shut down they don't make it past the compression stroke and will grab another notch on the recoil. Then as the piston/crank rotats backward that 1/2 revolution it really pulls the rope tight into the housing. Adding wear and tear. Some really grab it tight and others didn't seem to. You can see my hand jump on the saws that try and pull back.

Thanks Dyno Joe for this analytical saw info - fascinating stuff! About the hole in the 500i dyno graph at the upper rpm range... do you think that was done to look favorable on European emissions testing? Is the ability coming connect a computer to the saw's fuel computer and change the fuel table like they do when "re-flashing" engine control units (ECUs) in cars to correct the air/fuel ratio across the rpm range?
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 2 месяца назад
The dip is just in the tuning. The 500i without a lot of time on them like to richen way up under no/light load. Takes a while for them to learn/not do that.

Someone had made mention that it made them cringe listening to the starter pawls lock on shutoff. You can see the little tug some give the rope. Those would be trying to yank it into the recoil housing without the extra slack.
