Pam, I am so glad you are back! I missed your garden gab😊. I decided to try propagating in the sand after your episode today. I tried lots of different cuttings to see what would happen. I have not had good luck with posting soil this summer. I am so excited to tell you about the lisianthus that bloomed in my front bed today. I planted one last year that I bought because I thought I would never have the patience to grow from seed. I couldn't figure out what it was as I did plant some of my winter sown seeds in that bed. I checked my plant app and there it was. I realized I planted it there last year. I live in zone 6a Ohio!

I love lisianthus but have had sketchy success with them. I am so glad they are growing for you. My success rate recently trying to propagate in soil has been very bad too. I wonder what is going on.

I am excited about how well it is working. I don't know why it has taken me so long to learn about it, seems it is an old trick.

Cloning collars may be able to be used to keep it upright. They float so you may not need the hardware cloth. I have an ez cloner but mine doesnt have a top for himidity and that has been my biggest issue. This may work set inside a 1020 tray with a humidity dome. Cool! Thanks. I have so many problems trying to propigate. Im in the arid desert.

Sounds like an idea. I will have to check in with that. So far this is working fairly well for grabbing stuff I had on hand.

I wonder if this method could be used if you already have a fresh water fish aquarium? Just use the top as a propagation area?

I don't see why not.

Hydoponic propagation made popular by marijuana growers. 😊

Theirs are more elaborate but yes. We are getting ready to take down a grow room building that was abandoned recently and I wonder if I can glean some goodies from all the stuff we have to remove.

Pam, can this hydroponic method be used for all types of plants, or is it better suited to specific types of plants/shrubs, etc. Thank you!

Great question, I am not well versed in this method yet but so far it is working for semi-hardwood cuttings and some softwood cuttings. More experimentation needs to be done to know more.

Hardware cloth?
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 20 дней назад
Yes, it is called hardware cloth if you go to a feed store, it is not cloth at all but a wire mesh material.

Does the container have to be clear? The sterlite container?
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 20 дней назад
No, in fact I have read that many prefer no light to be in the area of the rooting ends. It can be any container, I just used what I had on hand that was the depth I wanted.

I enjoyed your video today. What is the name of the liquid product you use on your cuttings? I’m sorry I didn’t get the name. Thanks

It is called Dip N Grow, I will put the link in the description box.

It’s just a brand name for a container like Rubbermaid.

Thank you, Yes, it is just what I had on hand for a container that was not too deep.

This was just the name brand of this particular container, you can make anything work that you have on hand. I wanted to see through it to keep check on the water level but I have heard some prefer to keep the water area darker. I am just experimenting with this and am sharing my results.
