Baby oil works in the same way but it's more of a softer approach. Plus it doesn't smell... The graininess is also spread out to fill into the paper. I highly recommend it. I buy baby oil from a dollar store and it still does the same job :) This is simply a different option to those who are sensitive to smell (I am, chemicals usually give me bad headaches).

It's pretty much an oil pastel at that point. Baby oil is mineral oil and the oil used to make oil pastel. Pigment, wax and mineral oil.......

Baby oil works wonders with polychromos as well. For prismacolors I'd rather recommend using a colorless blender for they aren't oil-based, but wax-based

What about Faber Castell
@Marc-rx5xg
@Marc-rx5xg 4 года назад
@@thinazulu9180 that depends what you mean, if you mean the student grade I honestly have no idea, but as I said, baby oil works well with the Faber Castell Polychromos. As far as I know, there are no colorless blenders

@Marc which paper do you use for polychromos (if we're going to blend it with baby oil)?
@Marc-rx5xg
@Marc-rx5xg 3 года назад
@@FifthHorsemanofApocalypse I don't usually use the polychromos, but I would suggest to put something under as the oil will seep through the paper. I am not very experienced with them, however so I am not sure which paper is the best to use, I'd suggest doing some trial and error

I use an alcohol marker colourless blender pen to blend my pencils. I bought a cheap one years ago, and simply top it up with the Copic CB refill liquid. If I have larger pieces, I'll put a few drops of the CB liquid in a glass jar and use a brush to blend.😊 Edit: Always have "scratch" paper to clean the nib if you ever use the same technique!☺

I have a similer tequnec using a white coloursoft or watercolour pencil where i add a white layer onto my colouring and being soft pencils or even waxy the white pencil drags colour from the layers into the gaps filling them in and as i layer the colurs on top of each other it helps soften the stronger colours and blend without ever getting my paper wet, it may not give a painted affect but it makes my art far better and cleaner while taken out the overpower of more vivid or darker colours making them bright but more subtle, i've taken to calling it Colour Locking as it locks in the colour its also great for helping blending my soft pencils to from new shades example, the skintone on a persons face my indeed have 5-7-9 diffrent colours involed in layers of depth and shading, but after the white pencil locks the colours in you would tell other than seeing the detailed skintone results, though ofc your the true master here that why i've subed to learn your tips, that fur trick is very helpful

Hello, Carol-Lynn. I am not Kristy, but the way she gets her pencils like that is to sharpen it completely with a pencil sharpener, and use the pencil at an angle. Using it at an angle makes it so that one side is flat and still doesn’t use the “pointy” side of the pencil.

A high quality pencil sharpener is great. I saved and splashed out for a Caran d’Ache sharpener and it DRAMATICALLY improved the points & sharpening experience. The trick is to use graphite pencils to clean the crud build up in the mechanism, then get any residual graphite off the colour pencils off before you use them. Treat the sharpener right, replacement blades aren’t cheap. The unit is worth the investment though, it really treats any pencils you get for their best.
