@parkerbethke now it’s not as big Of an issues but when they were new the 6.0 ford really burnt people one. It and the 6.4 are the reasons I won’t buy ford anymore. They released a truck that was $50,000 or more probably and then needed $10,000 in upgrades off the lot to make it reliable out side of a few out layers. Luckily when they are used and as cheap as they are now and parts are cheaper it’s not as bad. But Ford lost millions in lawsuits over the 6.0 and its reliability

International was their diesel supplier and I think they had plans of continuing to use the 7.3 because people were happy and they had food sales with little issues. However EPA comes in saying new emissions are coming in and the 7.3 was not going to pass. The 6.0 or VT365 was originally a diesel meant for the European market as well so it was made to run with higher cetane that the diesel we have here in the US. The European part may or may not be correct as info is vague. Also VT365 ran fine in it's designed application which were medium duty trucks which the emissions on those vehicles were less strict and also ran lower power so less stress as well. By somewhere around 2005 a new updated version of that engine started to be built which had stronger head bolts and improved egr cooler and high pressure oil system. Maintenance though with these engines is REALLY important especially coolant and oil. The oil cooler in these sit in the valley and is a water to oil cooler with VERY narrow passages. Dirty cooling system and lack of oil changes killed this engine quickly. Then 2007 runs along and more news of a new emissions regulation for 2008. This one though screwed all of the big 3 with the new Regen and DPF systems which is what the more advanced 6.4 or Maxxforce 7 came out for in the superduty. There are people out there that have high mileage 6.0 and do what they need, oil changes and coolant changes and no extreme tunes. Emissions is what screwed most with why diesels became this way. Oh and Ford also sued Navistar for those engines as well, that's the reason why 6.7 was born. Also the 6.7 was engineered with assistance from an engineering firm called AVL in Austria.
@@bryanmartinez6600 you would be correct. The emission is what killed them but oddly enough the lmm duramax and the 6.7 Cummins both never really suffered complete engine failure. The 6.0 being as modern needing the maintenance it does is also shocking. More international/navistar than ford, but it’s also fords name on the truck. People in the duramax world install larger oil and trans oil pans to gain capacity and lengthen the oil change intervals. With these upgrades it makes them hold the same as amount as the 6.0 and 6.4. This really pushed the changes from 5000 to 7500 or 7500-10000 depending on year. Especially with good filtration. But on the 6.0 and the 6.4 they need maintenance beyond being reasonable. 15q of oil needs to be changed no more than 5000 miles in a 6.0 and arguably no more than 3500 miles on a 6.4. Some people are good to stretch theirs to 5000 miles. For a modern diesel production light duty engine that’s completely garbage. Actually I almost bought a 6.0 for my first diesel, but after countless hours of research we found it’s best to no spend 15-20k on a truck not knowing if it will need 8k to bulletproof it from a lot. Also consider a closed loop system like the coolant system can get contaminated with debris is insane. It can happen in any truck, but where does it come from gaskets? I mean 6.0 are known to eat head gaskets until studded even at stock power if you ran them much at all towing. Stack even a mile tune on it then a 350-400hp truck just stretched your head bolts and ripped your gasket to pieces. I’ve just never figured out how the 6.0 was in production for as long as it was. It’s updates in 05-06 were so minor they prove to make little to no difference in reliability. Honestly dodge and Chevy, had the idea on the market and locked it in. The keep building and improving off the same base liter size and built solid reliability platforms and improved failure points. Ford has to redesign the 6.7 from nothing and maybe it’s their end all liter and platform. But I doubt it will be. They have had issues with 11-14 trucks and then the 15-18 trucks were decently problem free. Then when they threw the power at them that Chevy and dodge are making.(respectable range) they have proven to have weak components and failure points. Sadly and I could be wrong, but I don’t see Ford running the 6.7 much longer than 2024 without some major design upgrades at the current modern diesel power levels. Ford makes a decent truck and now that Ram/Dodge is mostly Chinese owned as of Jan 2021. It really leaves the two trucks I would choose from between ford and Chevy/gm. Honestly at this moment the power has proven to be more than needed because we have gotten by with much less longer that I with out a doubt pick the gm products. I do own a lbz currently. I owned a 6.4 that was on engine 3 in less than 300k. And I had the injector eating lb7. Also had 2-5.9, 3-7.3, 1-lmm,1-lml, 1-l5p. Out of all of those trucks the only gm in a shop was the lb7 for injectors that still made it a decent 208k. The fords only the 6.4 was in the shop. It had electrical, front end, trans, engine, and basically anything else that could break fixed. The two 5.9 were 96-97 and they never made it in a shoo but anything that wasn’t a Cummins was subject to failure at any time. Over all they are all decent trucks and have many problems with many solutions. We diesel owners are really all one big family that hates Honda ridge lines and gives each other shit, but most of us usually stick together
Powersteps. To me they really give lifted and non lifted trucks the appearance of being even higher, and the functionality. I know they are a more expensive upgrade, but i am also surprised they arent an option for from OEM manufacuters. Im pretty sure Frod does them from the factory but not sure who else. Maybe GMC on the Denali.
I'd say a good tune is underrated u get a good amount of power and in newer vvt trucks ...u can even give them a lil bit of a chop to sound like it has a camshaft swap🏁💪🍻
Instead of whole headlight housings you can go cheaper and just get an led kit I got the sealight 6000k bulbs both high and low with fogs and it looks amazing for about 100$

Diffidently a point on the exhaust. Too many people straight pipe their vehicle cause they want to be loud as hec. Though there are some good applications to straight piping but a near stock vehicle is not going to gain anything but loud. I have a full custom exhaust with intentions in mind and diffidently changed how the vehicle mods is exceptionally better than people straight piping and going catless or not. Another underrated ones but is meant for older trucks is EFI (instead of switching from TBI to Carb) and ignition. Just adding the plugs, wires, and coil from MSD, my truck acts fairly quickly to throttle response. Another one in my books is the transmission. Once it goes, build the tranny up with complete aftermarket components and updates to reduce the risk of failure over the next 200k miles that is without deliberately trying to destroy it of course. I am not sure about the fairly new trucks, but these mods are my first choice of upgrades for building a vehicle.
I guess for me I would say an underrated truck might would be valves stim covers although people don’t see them but I feel like it would be a nice little touched when you show someone oh by the way I got this do you like that’s sweet just like my friend did when I showed them my bullet style Valve stim covers
don’t get me wrong I want some nice headlights but im a teen and don’t have 750 to spend on headlights, I’d personally rather paint chrome or buy and exhaust kit
I still don’t understand why people buy an exhaust for a GAS truck when you can go to the muffler shop and have them run the pipes and put what ever muffler you want for a lot cheaper then the kit
