Ahmad Jamal is one of the most unique pianists in jazz, Peter Martin and Adam Maness discuss why. You'll Hear It has new episodes every single week! - link.youllhearit.com/listen
This is so great. I'm a lifelong pianist, classical, with growing interest in jazz lately. I was at a friend's cafe recently and he threw on live at alhambra, and it absolutely blew me away. I don't think it's one of his more popular records, but the recording has so much life to it. The clinking of glasses. The casual perfection of the performance. Absolutely in awe of Ahmad!
No doubt a unique pianist, One of the greatest musical show's I've ever seen in any genre, Ahmad Jamal Trio back in 2006. And IMHO his 1970 release 'The Awakening' is one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time.
@@yurei8 Definitely those are the tracks that grabbed my attention when I found the CD on a bin at the now defunct Tower Records at Congressional Plaza in Rockville, MD, circa 1998. But I have to say 'I Love Music' is also awesome.
This really opened my ears to things that I didn't even know were going on in Ahmad Jamal's performance. I'm revisiting a bunch of his recordings with a whole new perspective.
I remember listening to the radio once and Sound Providers Autumn's Evening Breeze came on with a piano sample of You Go to My Head, and I could just tell it was Ahmad Jamal. So I looked up his recordings of it and sure enough it comes from his album All of You (1961), which I then got. That story makes it one of my favorite albums. It kind of reawakened me to him. Around that time I was trying to figure out what kind of sound I wanted to have, and listening to that album (and the others I got soon after) I was thinking this is how I want to play jazz.
Ey and Adam i was wondering mayby you could do an guided practice session about the ahmad jamal pentatonic shaps, like the Kenny Kirklandand elisode i really loved that one, just an idea bye :)
Hey adam and Peet, man ahmad jamal is so great i guess my favorite album is the Awakening, and at the moment my favorite track "Stolen Moments" Greetings from Germany Miro :)
The Awakening is my favorite also. I think it’s one of the best piano trio records out there…doesn’t get much attention for some reason but it’s an awesome set of tunes, standards and originals and the playing is phenomenal
