Much appreciated. I remember listening to the debut album back in 1977. It was far apart from everthing else that counted as hard rock and metal. Overkill just blew my mind. Probably my favourite album. We will never see their like again.
Motorhead were awesome, my favorite albums are: Bomber, Overkill, Ace of Spades, Iron Fist, Another Perfect Day, Orgasmatron, Rock 'n' Roll, 1916, Bastards ect. This band is legendary R.I.P. Lemmy R.I.P. Phil Taylor R.I.P. Eddie Clark
Finally...it took some time but it was totally worth it. My top 10: 1- Overkill 2- Ace of Spades 3- Bomber 4- Iron Fist 5- Another Perfect Day 6- Sacrifice 7- Orgasmatron 8- Rock 'n Roll 9- Bastards 10 - Inferno
For a band with this large of a catalog, Motorhead was really quite consistent. Their albums mainly went from classic to pretty decent. They really had no embarrassing missteps in their discography, and very few legacy bands of that era can say the same.
My favorites are: 1 - Ace of Spades 2 - Overkill 3 - Bomber 4 - Another Perfect Day (nice to see you like that album too, some people disliked it because of the more melodic approach but I think it's a great album, among their best for sure.)
Good list. I don't agree with every ranking, but then again, I don't have to! Thank you for this list. My top pics are... 1. Bomber - The album has a western feel and a kind of swing with songs like "Lawman". One of my go-to albums. 2. Ace of Spades - In my opinion, as close to a perfect album as Motorhead ever made. Just dirty and raw throughout. 3. Another Perfect Day - I think Robbo's technical brilliance pushed Lemmy and Philthy to play at the top of their game. Sonically their best too. 4. We Are Motorhead - One of their best "metal" albums. Even One More Fecking Time is a slow burning heavy hitter, but I don't like GSTQ. 5. Inferno - Such a heavy hitter from start to finish. And "Whorehouse Blues" lets us down easy. Damn good one. They were Motorhead and they made rock and roll. And there won't be another like them. Rest In Peace them all.
1. Ace of Spades 2. Overkill 3. Iron Fist 4. 1916 5. Orgasmatron 6. Inferno 7. Motorizer 8. Bastards 9. Bomber 10. Another Perfect Day 11. Bad Magic 12. Overnight Sensation 13. We Are Motorhead 14. Sacrifice 15. The World Is Yours 16. Motorhead 17. March or Die 18. Aftershock 19. Rock and Roll 20. Hammered 21. Kiss of Death 22. Snake Bite Love This is a tough ranking to do with a band who has a ton of really awesome albums. Even some albums that are ranked lower are still really awesome, but they have other albums that are better than others. That happens with most bands, but at least they're been making some awesome music.
Motörhead is my number one favourite band ever, and I think it's basically a nice list. It avoids the snobbish trap of not recognizing the post 1981 stuff 😁. I think most of their 90s albums, and especially the Cameron Webb produced albums beginning with Inferno, are excellent. I never could make a full ranking (though I own all the studio and the official live albums on CD), but my TOP 3 in no particular order: - Overkill - Another Perfect Day - Inferno 😎👍
Glad to see Inferno so high! It is my favourite album from Motorhead. Something just really works for me on this album. It's crushingly heavy and the production is pretty good. The band is on fire here. Great list as always!
Fans - Give the last two studio albums, “Aftershock” and “Bad Magic” another listen. Lemmy truly gives you his take on life, his advice, his lessons. No excuses, he lived his life pleasing himself, he did it his way, and louder and better than everyone else. Quality songwriting and musicianship on these final albums. I LOVE THEM.
Completely agree about Aftershock and Bad Magic. Lemmy was sick during this time, yet these albums don’t suffer at all. Both have excellent songs. Aftershock is my personal favorite. 🤘🏼
Whoaaaa, hold your horses. I love “On Parole,” and think it truly shows the birth of Motörhead, and their transition away from Hawkwind. It’s oddly groovy but still kicks quite a bit; and almost feels punk. I love this album and would put it near the top of my list. And I’m a guy who usually listens to extreme black metal and death metal
I think it has too much of that hawkwind vibe and not enough metal, plus it's like a worse version of their debut album so for me it's quite unnecessary.
@@RuthlessMetalYT it’s funny - I kind of think that the revised debut album is almost like one of those unnecessary re-recorded albums like Exodus’ one . . . But to each their own. I do miss the “White Line Fever,” though. Luckily I have both versions in deluxe format :)
Nice work! My top 10 Motorhead studio albums... 1. Overkill 2. Ace Of Spades 3. Bomber 4. Sacrifice 5. Motorhead 6. Bastards 7. Iron Fist 8. Orgasmatron 9. 1916 10. Rock And Roll. My overall favorite Motorhead release, however, is No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. And two of my favorite songs don't appear on the albums..."Killed By Death" and "Just 'cos You Got The Power". Cheers!
For me Motörhead is really the bridge between traditional heavy metal and what we will later call speed / thrash metal, they are really important in the history of metal because they are the precursors of what will happen to it then years decades later extreme metal 🔥🤘🔥.
One of my favorite bands ever. Very solid, true to the roots of rock. My number one is also Overkill - it was my first Motorhead album I ever heard. Anyway, my top 5: 1. Overkill 2. Bomber 3. Another Perfect Day 4. 1916 5. Ace Of Spades
I own every Motorhead album and I love all era's, but the original 3 were killer. Rip Lemmy, Phil, Fast Eddie, Wurzel. Overkill and Another Perfect Day are my favorite.
Great list! Difficult task. I did this awhile ago on paper and it wasn't easy. Also haven't heard every single album from beginning to end. Nevertheless, great band. 1916 was my introduction to the band in the early 90s. I liked that album a lot I remember. My very favorites today are Another Perfect day, Inferno, 1916, Overkill, Orgasmatron, Aftershock and Ace of Spades. So many great songs from such a legendary band....cheers 🤘🍻
i know you’re more of a thrash guy than a death metal guy, but you should rank morbid angel. one of the best and most influential death metal bands of all time, right up there with death themselves.
Good to see the 1916 album getting some support. While I was aware of the band beforehand, 1916 was the first album from Motorhead I got, and also the first time I saw them live, with Judas Priest and Alice Cooper in '91. There was some "experimentation" on this album, but it actually WORKED. "Love Me Forever" and "Nightmare / The Dreamtime" are both dark, atmospheric tracks that stack up with the band's best. Also, "Shoot You In the Back" from "Ace of Spades" is one of my favorite "deep cuts" from Motorhead.
Solid list. Motorhead had some stellar points in their career. When I was coming up in the 80's & 90's Motorhead was loved by metal heads of every stripe.
1 - Ace Of Spades, 2 - Overkill, 3 - No Sleep Til Hammersmith, after that, take your pick. Only Bomber, Orgasmatron & Inferno do it for me. Legendary band though.
I have always loved Motorhead. Overkill, 1916, Bastards, and Motorizer are my favorites. The band always are in top form live. No Class, Ace Of Spades, and Iron Fist are great songs. I have seen the videos they did and are always worth seeing.
Great bit of work, as always! Your top 5 are the same as mine, albeit in a slightly different order - I have Bomber top, then Ace Of Spades, Another Perfect Day, Overkill then Iron Fist, however all are brilliant albums and whenever I listen to any one of them it tends to move up the list a bit! \m/
Motorhead is far and away my favorite band, and this is a good ranking. I could quibble with a few things, o' course (I love On Parole, although I know that's personal and it's fair to consider it their worst), but there will always be quibbles. Overall I think you did a good job with a tough task. There are no bad Motorhead albums. Like AC/DC, you have better and you have worse, but they never really let you down. And Another Perfect Day is a strange one. When I first got it I was disappointed in it, but over time it's become one of my favorite Motorhead albums. The songwriting on that one was especially strong, & Brian Robertson's guitar works is great, even if it's more melodic than typical Motorhead. My fave moment, in the title track, where Robertson plays a really pretty, delicate intro, and then Lemmy's huge ugly bass comes in and just stomp-stomp-stomps on it! it's like watching the "Bambi Vs. Godzilla" cartoon. Always makes me laugh. :)
Thank You so much for Your video, Love LEMMY and MOTORHEAD madly, so for me all albums are cool, Love them all, My favorite are INFERNO, NO SLEEP TILL HAMMERSMITH, OVERKILL, BAD MAGIC, ORGASMATRON, THE WORLD IS YOURS, 1916, And my favorite song is Iron horse /Born to lose (cause this song describes my motivations when I ride my bike) Don't wanna say R, I, P, LEMMY LEGENDS NEVER DIE
Thanks, especially for 'Overkill' as #1. There's no doubt 'Ace of spades' is a great album but 'Overkill' is the album that was ahead of it's time (as for me).
My bests are (not in order): Sacrifice, Another perfect day, Orgasmatron, We are Motorhead (probably their last good LP together Inferno) and Overnight sensation. Also I really like No sleep 'til Hammersmith, one of the best rock/metal live at all.
Oh WOW Motorhead is one of my favotite 80's Metal Band!!The best Motorhead was Live at Hammersmith,No Remorse, for the first periode and i like the sound of Inferno!!!🤘🤘🤘
Me gustó mucho tu ranking de albums porque creo que está bien argumentado, he sido y soy un fanático de la banda por más de 40 años y coincido totalmente en la posición que le has dado a los cinco mejores discos.
🤘Incredible video🤘Motorhead ever my favorite band🤘Overkill Bomber Ace of spades 1916 Inferno Bastards Kiss of death Another prefect day Iron fist n' March or die are my favorites albumns🤘
Rank em all is back and life is good! IMO your list is pretty much spot on. I personally would have 1916 a little higher though, as that album was my first introduction to motorhead and the first time I got to see them live. No Voices in the Sky is probably their most underrated song. Cheers!
Excellent video as always, sir! Motorhead is a tricky band to rate for me, I've been listening to their latter day stuff quite a lot these past few years (Overnight Sensation gets a lot of plays for whatever reason), but one can't deny the impact or quality of the Bombers and the Overkills etc. Cheers!
My view on Motorhead Albums from best to worst(they have no bad album though...) 1.Ace of spades 2.Overkill 3.Bomber 4.1916 5.Another Perfect Day 6.Orgasmatron 7.Rock n Roll 8.Iron Fist 9.March Or Die 10.Bastards 11.Sacrifice 12.We are Motorhead 13.Snake Bite Love 14.Overnight Sensation 15. Anything else in no particular order...
Thanks for sharing your Motorhead Rankings. I appreciate the time & effort you put into compiling this & the other bands you focused on. Your channel has prompted me to listen to some Artists/albums that I haven't listened to for quite some time; even going back to when I was a teenager in the late 70's early 80's. Thanks again for your commentary. Cheers!
Great Review I also Agree (Overkill) Is there Best Album # And it's Cool that (Another Perfect Day) And (Orgasmatron) placed so High in the Rankings !..
Nice to see "Another Perfect Day" getting love in the comments. Definitely Top 4, well done Ruthless. Love all the tracks, however "Marching Off to War" is a fav.
Hats off to you for being able to rank this discography at all. 22 albums and none of 'em are bad. Motorhead don't do bad albums. Some are weaker ofc, but none are bad. Not gonna rank it, but I will say that I'm also a huge fan of the Overkill album. I'd actually put that one and bomber above ace of spades. But the rest? No chance I'm ranking 'em in any order.
Imagine if "On Parole" was released when it was recorded. There wasn't much that sounded like it at the time. Except for maybe The Dictators or New York Dolls.
Miss hearing Motorhead will never be another band like them! Heres mine from worst to best. 23. Snakebite Love 22. March or Die 21. Rock n Roll 20. Overnight Sensation 19. Bad Magic 18. On Parole 17. Motorizer 16. Aftershock 15. Orgasmatron 14. Motorhead 13. The World is Yours 12. We Are Motorhead 11. Kiss of Death 10. Ironfist 9. Hammered 8. Inferno 7. Bomber 6. Another Perfect Day 5. Bastards 4. 1916 3. Ace of Spades 2. Sacrifice 1. Overkill
These Rank em All videos are brilliant. Your dedication and way you present them is A class. I don't even like this type of ranking videos mostly, but you do it so well I'm hooked on these. BTW I just realized you haven't yet done Helloween... At least I couldn't find that... Which, I admit, was why I got to comment right now... Sorry, I know these must tremendous work, but can't wait for that one! Keep it up and Cheers!
Thanks man, I appreciate it. :) Yeah I haven't done them, maybe some day, they are a band that I haven't listened that much to besides a few albums. :) Cheers!
1. Overkill (1979) 2. Overnight Sensation (1996) 3. Hammered (2002) 4. Another Perfect Day (1983) 5. Bastards (1993) 6. Sacrifice (1995) 7. 1916 (1991) 8. We Are Motörhead (2000) 9. Motörhead (1977) 10. Rock ‘n’ Roll (1987) 11. Iron Fist (1982) 12. Inferno (2004) 13. March ör Die (1992) 14. Ace of Spades (1980) 15. Bad Magic (2015) 16. Kiss of Death (2005) 17. Snake Bite Love (1998) 18. The Wörld is Yours (2010) 19. Aftershock (2013) 20. Orgasmatron (1986) 21. Bomber (1979) 22. Motörizer (2008) 23. On Parole (1979) *Yeah, I used to be a big fan of theirs, but not really anymore. Ace of Spades is just kind of a really generic rock and roll record with a NWOBHM bent to it, and Jailbait is easily the worst song in their catalog. Nothing special at all. I ironically like some of their “lesser albums” more and find them much more interesting. :)
Well i guess its about taste but Orgasmatron should be way higher than 10th place. For me goes like 1-Overkill 2- Ace of Spades 3-Bomber 4-Orgasmatron 5-Iron Fist 6- Rock and Roll 7- Sacrifice 8- On Parole 9- Another Perfect Day 10- Bastards
My Favorite Motorhead Albums 1: Overkill (1979) 2: Bomber (1979) 3: Ace Of Spades (1980) 4: Iron Fist (1982) 5: Orgasmatron (1986) 6: Motorhead (1977) 7: Rock 'N' Roll (1987)
My favorite Motorhead songs Talking Head Iron Horse ( with Mr Wallis) Keep Us On the Road the Watcher Metropolis No Class Deadman Tell No Tales I Don't Need Religion Two Track Mind Capricorn Lawman the Chase is Better than the Catch Lost Johnny ( I prefer the original Hawkwind version) Nightmare ( 1916 album, the only song I like from Motorhead beyond Another Perfect Day) Another Perfect Day I Got Mine White Negro Flies
1. Overkill 2. Ace of Spades 3. Iron Fist 4. Bomber 5. Another Perfect Day 6. Bastards 7. Orgasmatron 8. 1916 9. Inferno 10. Sacrifice 11. We Are Motörhead 12. Motörhead 13. Rock 'n' Roll 14. Overnight Sensation 15. Motörizer 16. Bad Magic 17. Kiss of Death 18. The Wörld Is Yours 19. Aftershock 20. March ör Die 21. Snake Bite Love 22. Hammered 23. On Parole
Overkill was a great album who heralded great things, but sound and production was poor..... ironically, the worst recorded number was title track - Overkill. Two years later, Motorhead did it wright on the album 'No sleep till Hammersmith'. According to many critics, one of the best live albums ever recorded. That album should be No.1.
Extremally hard to rank Motorhead albums, but I will try anyway: 1. Overkill 2. Inferno 3. Sacrifice 4. Another Perfect Day 5. Orgasmatron 6. Kiss of Death 7. Bastards 8. Ace of Spades 9. March or Die 10. Aftershock 11. Overnight Sensation 12. Iron Fist 13. We are Motorhead 14. The World is Yours 15. Motoriser 16. Bad Magic 17. Bomber 18. 1916 19. Snake Bite Love 20. Rock'n'Roll 21. Motorhead / On Parole 22. Hammered Yes, I know some classics are low, but that's how I feel folks... 🙂
My Motorhead albums ranking 1. Bomber 2. Overkill 3. Bastards 4. Another Perfect Day 5. Ace Of Spades ♠️ 6. Orgasmatron 7. March or Die 8. Sacrifice 9. We Are Motorhead 10. Overnight Sensation 11. Aftershock 12. Rock N Roll 13 . Iron Fist 14 . Kiss of Death 15. Motorhead 16. On Parole 17. 1916 18. Bad Magic 19 . Hammered 20. Motorizer 21. Snake Bite Love 22. The World is Yours
Oh hell no! Wait wait wait!!! Motorhead is not to be ranked BROHAM! That's just blasphemy!!! How dare you?!😢 Still, good effort, good try...🤨 Lemmy is God, did you miss the memo?...😶🌫️
Motörhead 'Metal' ? Nah, they were (Punk/Biker) Rock 'n Roll. Allthough they were a big influence on (Speed/Thrash/Black & Death) Metal Bands, they were imho way ahead above them. My top 3 ranking: 1. Ace of Spades 2. Overkill 3. Bomber
My Top 10: 1. Inferno 2. Bomber 3. Rock n Roll 4. Ace of Spades 5. We are Motörhead 6. Overkill 7. Another Perfect Day 8. 1916 9. Bastards 10. Iron Fist
No matter what people say, Iron Fist is the most Heavy Metal Motörhead album and enjoy large cult following among the real Metal heads (I'm not talking about the sunday-rockers or hipsters here). On Parole comes to very close. Iron Fist has that same "cult sound" and production like Venom's Possessed or Korrozia Metalla's "Орден Сатаны".
Motörhead rankings are easy. 1. Overkill 2. Ace of Spades 3. Bomber 4.-21. Everything else 22. On Parole 23. March or Die(totally sucks, the only Motörhead I don't own)
Great list , Ruthless My favorite band of all time. My favorite top 5 1- Overkill 2- Ace of Spades 3- Bomber 4- Another Perfext Day 5- Motorhead ( s/t )
On Parole, Snakebite Love, The World is Yours, We Are Motorhead and Rock n Roll are probably at the bottom of my list Then Would be Bad Magic, people seemed to like that one but I didn't really feel it. Despite it being their last one. Overnight Sensation ranks high on my list as does Kiss of Death and Hammered which you didnt seem to dig. Another Perfect Day, Overkill, Ace of Spades, Bomber, Sacrifice and Inferno are top tier. The rest just kinda fall into place. I think Aftershock is my favorite of the last 3 they did and Motorizer is solid.
I think Bastards is the best of the albums that Lemmy is the only original (classic lineup) member remaining. Mickey Dees first full album and the last to have Wurzel and Phil Cambell on the entire album. Mickey really makes an impact, drives the album, just like Dave Lombardo drives Slayer.
Motörhead is, bar none, my favorite band of all. Ironically enough, The Wörld is Yours and On Parole were the first two Motörhead albums I’d ever heard, so they’ve always had a soft spot in my heart. Though I confess there are better ones, I still dig them.
I only like Motorhead up to Another Perfect Day. Bomber Overkill the Watcher ( re issued as On Parole) Motorhead Another Perfect Day Iron Fist Iron Fist I absolutely love the original Larry Wallis version of Iron Horse, but the rest of the album was pure unadulterated sheeeeeeit
Love your video. Motörhead are amongst my top 5 fave bands of all time and I love to hear someone go into detail album by album. Great stuff, even tho I’d put “On Parole” quite a bit higher than LAST PLACE.
yeah that one got the short end of the stick but there aren't really any real stinkers in their catalogue, I could perhaps have moved it up a step or two. :)
Motörhead , a great band. It’s lead singer was not necessarily a PC person, his right. The iron cross and even nazi symbol and imagery has personally prevented me from their music. yes, some of us do note stuff like that. Enjoy it though.
I think I’m a bit bias since I’m a lizzy fan but I really loved how different and melodic the album was and I was already used to Robbo’s playing but I’d put put another perfect day in rank 2 with overkill being 1 and ace of spades in 3 bomber in 4th
Before my son was born, I liked the band, but wasn’t a fan. Now, he’s nine, absolutely loves the band, and by association now I love the band more so than before and listen to Lemmy at least an hour or more per day. 🤘🤘 Great list and rankings brother!
Motorhead were Motorhead. I think, like The Ramones, they had the most meaning in the mid 1970s to very early 1980s, when their unique nature became old, and even monotonous. As I say, listening to Motorhead or The Ramons for fifteen minutes is great. Listening to any more than that, and they start to get monotonous. Good in short bursts, but that's all. Take it easy.
