Moterm A5 Cover and Review Update
The Moterm A5 cover I bought is very different from the second cover that was sent to me. I'm glad that I could do this video, so other people will be aware if it happens to them :) I kept the second one and will be returning the first. There is nothing wrong with the first cover, it's just different. I prefer the second cover that looks and feels like real leather.

Yeah, your new one is definitely the old style that is currently sold out. All the new matte ones feel much more plastic-y and have the back curving. After a lot of conditioning now mine feels like real leather and it’s almost flat, I think it has a lot to do with the process they use to get the matte look.

100% agreed. I hurts me to say the new moterm luxe crocs all look like plastic to me. They have some great colors but I prefer the old style.

Nice vid. I have the Moterm A5, Croc, Notebook Cover in both black and red-brown. I LOVE the old original croc print. I don't know why they decided to change up but I'm thankful I was able to get both originals before they sell out of them. I, too, like that mine lie flat and I really like the semi sheen. I decided to put leather conditioner on mine and I was absolutely blown away with how much more beautiful that made them. You got yours at a great price. Thanks for the video.

I’m glad you found a better model that you like (cheaper😃) and were able to send back the bulgy one. I’m so ornery that I would have picked the bottom stitches out and used the thing😆! Thank you for the update and I’m glad it worked out for you 💗🤗!

I have the newer model A5 black notebook cover arriving on Tuesday and plan to apply conditioner to it. Hopefully that helps somewhat. I’m a little worried as I have croc in pocket rings from Filofax and Gillio and don’t expect Moterm to be the same but was hopeful it could be a more affordable option as I like to have variety in my A5 cover options from day to day (I use A5 as my work carry). TY for the vid, it was helpful.

The one with the Moterm tag is most likely a newer cover. The tag is a fairly recent addition to the Moterm notebooks.

I am so glad you posted this video! So helpful to seem these two side by side. I got my A5 black croco moterm yesterday, and it looks like the first one you got as well. It does lay a little flatter than yours however. But my first reaction was that this was NOT leather, it feels plasticy and fake. It doesn't look anything like the shiny black ones I've seen on YT , and the pattern looked different. It feels like a knockoff. I'm very unappy with it and was just planning on returning it and buying something else. I may return and try going through Moterm directly, I'm not sure. I love my hobonichi weeks moterm, it is perfect, but this one was a huge disappointment.

Jen, here in the comments, mentioned that there was two options for the black croc now. Maybe try that first? I hope it works out for you. I do love my week cover as well!

I just checked amazon and now it's showing two black croc options for the A5 size. There's Croc-Black 1 which seems to match the first one you received. And then there's Croc-Black which matches the second one you bought.

Hi Sylvia, I'm so excited to comment here, I've been watching your videos for a long while and didnt have a proper account to comment (now i do!) This video reminded me of that horrible foxy fix cover you got lol. Thankfully they sent you a new one! Too bad foxy fix didnt do the same!

Great video and good to know because that would bother me. I loooovee Moterm. My only thought is I wish their leather was more consistent across the line. Thanks for sharing! ❤️🤗

Yes, consistency is lacking in many leather making companies. Partly do to the leather, and partly do to 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂

i have the same cover and never noticed that it has the bulge, but it definitely does LOL. so far it hasn't bugged me, but i also haven't used it heavily (yet)

Leather is such a variable textile. I've seen some videos of other bigger established brands turn out subpar planners as well. At least you found one that works for you.
