Review | Moterm A5 Cover | Bullet Journal Try-on
I hope this is helpful! I am so busy this month, that I combined the review with trying out different bullet journals with this cover. It's a longer video, but I know I find it helpful when I need to see what will fit.
I did buy another cover to see if I had the same issue. I will do an update when it comes in this coming week :)

The reasons the foxy fix spice notebooks didn’t have stitching on the spine at the bottom was because of the strange bunching that doesn’t let you lay flat until you put your book in. If you place your hobonichi in both slots it will go away.

I have both my hobonichi and jibun techo in mine with no problem;) I decorated my jibun techo and it looks fabulous with the black croc;)

Yes, you need the slack so that when you fill it, it won't be pulling on the back cover. I have it in taupe, white, and black. It is great leather that is not so dainty and can handle if you are tough. I also have the lichi leather which is super soft and I like both. Love the pens! .38 is my new jam and so glad I can get it from Amazon!

I have the not laying flat thing also with my matt croco aubergine from gillio (A6)! I think it has something to do with the back pocket in combination with the thickness and stiffness of the croco pattern leather 🤔

I always enjoy listening to your detailed thought processes. I always try to save when I can too. 🤗 I have a personal Croc in rings and I experience the same bulging. It doesn’t bother me because the rings somewhat cover it up. Thanks for sharing! ❤️😘

They have a lot of new colors in their Ali Express store which is awesome. I ordered a croc B6 bc I don’t like the squishy stuff inside the pebbled. It’s on its way from ali express. Can’t wait to get it and try it. The back pocket will always cause it not to lay flat as nicely. But in the croc it’ll always be different bc it’s a firmer stiffer leather. But it’ll be different once it’s broken in some and once it’s got a notebook in it. The hobo cover on cover won’t work on the notebook in there bc it’s made to go over the hobo covers not on the planner itself. But the Midori A5 cover and similar brands that do fit the hobonichi planner may fit but it’ll be a tight fit.

That bump you don’t like isn’t there when you have your notebook in it. My hobonichi lays fine in mine and it doesn’t pop up at all and lays flat. My black croc is also shinier than the one you have there. Not glossy but not flat matte either. I’ve had mine for almost a year so maybe that shine is the patina it develops over a year of daily use.

It should get some patina with use. But they also source their leather from other leather shops (their leftovers/scraps) so there can be variation between different lots.

I’ve had mine for a few months and it is a little shiny. Not patent leather shiny. It lays flat. It is a little poofy at the spine but lays completely flat with my Moleskine expanded in it. I love mine so much I just got a pink croc too.

May I ask more about how the moleskine expanded fits in this cover? Is there much of a gap or cover overhang?

sympatheia just under an inch. Just enough for my pen to fit comfortably or if you had tabs they could fit there as well.

Even if you order a new one I'm afraid the back bump will still be there, they are all sawn like that. I have the very same black croc one and it did the same thing at the beginning and it drove me crazy. It flattens a bit with use, especially if you really stuff it.

Hi. I could be wrong but you might have the new luxe version Moterm just started producing. I bought mine in Jan and it’s the older style. No bump!The pattern is different and it’s somewhat shiny. I actually love it. I bought the new style in pink croc and I didn’t like it. But that could have been the color.

it cant mathematically lay flat, the outer layer has to be wider than the inside layer or it wont fold.

What did you search when you purchased this A5? I have an older version of this A5 and the leather is completely different. So I’m wondering if there is a different link for the one you have

They source a lot of their leathers from other shops - remnants. So there is often variations between different moterms even from the same size and listing.

I did make a new video comparing the two different leathers. People on the comments mentioned there are two choices for this leather now. I just search Moterm and it’s the one link for all A5 covers.
