I can see why that idea didn’t catch on, by the time you’ve got it running right the day is over and no work got done. Ingenious idea though, training the jack Russel to polish the flywheels with its nose! Very interesting and beautifully turned out engine.
About all I could decipher from this video was the two D2 engines are rated at 8 horse power each are combined for a total of 16 HP as the D4. The photo was from documentation dated 1929. That and there is no leash laws in that part of France. Expected any moment to see poochie in low earth orbit. That is a unique double motor set up. Brilliant restoration. I guess that the middle part between the flywheels is used for a belt drive. Funny dog trying to bite the flywheel.
We had a dog that would try to attack our lawn tractor.. i wasnt paying attention once and the fucker got the rear tire.. two good thumps and the fucker never ran at or chased the mower ever again. sorta felt bad after
Samuel - In early years when cars had spoke wheels it was common to tie burlap to the spokes. Most folk in small towns had no use for barking car chasing dogs. Dogs were known to puncture tires often. What takes place when pooch goes for the wheel his teeth get caught in the fiber and cannot let go. Twists the head off!

Bonjour. Non ces moteurs étaient conçus que pour tourner a un seul sens. J'en ai donc transformé un pour tourner a l'envers.en modifiant l'arbre a cames et toute la distribution, puis la magnéto et la dent de loup de manivelle. La pompe a eau est efficace dans les deux sens. @+
@@kitfoxmk2 that does not make sense. It is double the reliability. Think logically. 1 Engine = if it fails, nothing works. 2 Engines = if one fails it STILL works The engines do not fail sooner and both at the same time just because there are 2 instead of one
@@dom3827 Yes Dom but if one fail, then there is insufficient power and the glider will stall out if not recovered in time. Same with a twin aircraft if it cane perform with one engine. you have the reliability of two engines to consider either one could fail therefore its half as reliable. Hope this makes sense?
Vajk Fekete the drive belt is in the middle. The idea is to use two smaller easy to make engines in place of one larger harder to produce engine to get the same power output.

In the case of the glider winch, should any part of the separate engines fail, you have a situation where, in addition to towing the glider up, the running engine would have the additional mechanical drag associated with the failed engine.
It is a gasoline engine, the spark plug is used to ignite the fuel in the combustion chamber. Look up a few videos on how engines work, and the difference between a gas and Diesel engines.
Although this strange contraption does resemble a large winch, it doesn't seem practical since it not on a clutching mechanism, I'm thinking it's just a weirdo stationary powerplant that runs belts, but sticking with the honest first impressions, I'm glad I'm not alone on that one, i wish that damn dog would have stuck it's annoying face right in there, notice nobody tried stopping it either, maybe they hoping that damn mutt will teach itself a lesson!
As the outer rims of the flywheels are highly polished (mirror finish) the poor dog can see itself and is attacking its own reflection 😟🤭, the 2 men are unfazed by this - ⚠️🐶⚰️, and not bothering to retain the pooch from it. I assume it is a belt driven power plant.
