@@acecanti4175 Actually it wasn't DMCA'd, they said they were scared it would be because Pokemon Uranium and Another Metroid 2 Remake had gotten DMCA'd shortly before. It ended up being a timely excuse since there was clearly already a rebrand in progress at the time of announcement.
Also, I would love for both Ninten and Aaron to be Ness' and Lucas' echo-fighters in Smash Bros, in the hypothetical that this version of Mother 4 was an official game.
He looks an awful lot like Charlie Bucket from the Charlie and Chocolate Factory from 1971 (not the 2000's remake) and this game is supposed to have a 70's vibe inherited from what is now called Oddity. He's using the red sweater too.
I love how in Mother 1 and 2, the protagonists, are similar. Just like how in Mother 3 and 4, the protagonists are similar. And to top it off, Oddity and Mother: Beyond Bounds; have similar protagonists making it almost like a double trilogy.
I really want to feel hyped for this, but honestly after Oddity it's hard to feel the same, specially after waiting for so long and still not receiving any updates. I'm really glad the Mother 4 dream is still alive though, and I'm sure I'll get more attached to this one the more I learn about it. I hope this gets as popular as Oddity, because at this point it has a far better chance at actually releasing.
Even though they're different games, Toby Fox has filled in the Mother vacancy in spectacular fashion for ME. If this ends up becoming a reality, it's icing on the cake.
@@10upstudios nah lots of fan games don’t work out or become vapor ware , more than ones that finish. However many do get completed and that’s awesome. So everyone should judge on a project by project basis I start with faith for everything and decide based on how the updates go
@@swagar I pledged to the EB USA kickstarter and I feel like I should let you know that it isn't vaporware or dead. The scope of the project just changed drastically as time went on. But they've still been posting updates on it. The last update was just days ago.
Looks great but I'm hoping it won't be subject to what I call "the Mother Curse" where it feels like nearly every project related to this series gets stuck in development hell, whether it be official or fan made.
This is the ultimate "Fine, I'll do it myself", I'm in awe just by seeing a trailer, I really hope you guys can give us something that we where yearning with the Oddity team, a true Mother 4 game. It doesn't matter if it takes years from now, what matters is communicating with those who follow the project, I really wish you the best with this game.
on the bad side...Nintendo is a complete idiot and won't let a mother 4 go unnoticed...Nintendo doesn't even touch the subject of the mother franchise, but even though it's a not very well-known franchise...Nintendo could definitely end up taking the project down...and it's sad to know that Nintendo having more recognition for games inspired by Nintendo games, should be proud , not process the project...but anyway...Nintendo is Nintendo right? But apparently the mother franchise was frozen in alaska and it looks like there won't be any more releases or anything about mother official,But that left a legacy for the new RPGs that will come out in the future....
@@OBigFloppaOFC Thankfully, Nintendo doesn't own the rights to the franchise; they just own the original trilogy and some licensing rights. Shigesato Itoi owns the franchise, and Nintendo won't do anything with their half of the Mother license without Itoi-san's input.
@@zierin705 On the unfortunate event (god forbid ofc) that Itoi were to pass away, what would happen then? Would Nintendo be able to start doing something about these projects? That's probably my only fear tbh.
@@Dara-up1pt That's actually a good question… Assuming Itoi-san doesn't will away his part of the license to another person or company and Nintendo doesn't buy it for some reason, the MOTHER franchise (minus the trilogy owned by Nintendo) would become public domain decades after Itoi-san's passing.
@@Dara-up1pt he'll probably let his company ; Hobonichi own the franchise and make MOHER fangames keep running, Itoi knows that we want more MOTHER, and he definitely knows the community's passionate projects and fanworks, so I'm 90% sure he'll find a way to make people have more MOTHER games in the future through this.
Hey guys Oddity 2 just got announced despite not being released the first one yet... Jokes aside I'm definitely looking forward to play this, as finding Mother ROM hacks or fangames is find like a shiny diamond
Well.. There have been multiple Mother 4 fan games, most, if not all the big ones have not been released yet, one notable one was called Mother 4, but they renamed that one to "Oddity" to avoid legal concerns. That might be the one you're talking about, no, sadly it hasn't been released.. :(
I really hope people dont hound you guys for updates and what not. Same shit happened with Oddity, sure it sucks ppl had to keep getting their hopes up just to be let down, but it's a fan game made in devs free time that they aren't getting paid for, they dont owe anyone shit yet ppl still get so entitled. It's honestly kind of disgusting how entitled people can get to something they didn't even work on or put money in to. This project looks really good so i hope it can come to fruition, the aesthetic is spot on; great sprite work and designs, feels like the natural progress of the series even if it's unofficial.
the difference between this and Oddity is that Oddity was obviously *inspired* by Mother but went out of their way to avoid the wrath of Nintendo. This one is just begging for a takedown notice

@@ABentPaperclip nintendo is not really the owner of Mother, they only care enough about this series to put the characters in every smash bros, and really, how wouldn't they? The highest that these games managed to sell at the time was 1 million.
the “og” mother 4 was rebranded because the team felt held back creatively having to stay on brand, not because of a nintendo dmca. it was their own choice to rebrand. the rights for the series primarily fall under hobonichi, the company it’s creator works for. unless they decide to have say in fan projects, there is no fear of this project ever facing legal troubles. shigesato itoi encourages fan creations and hobonichi has even collaborated with fan artist to make the pollyanna art book which celebrated the series anniversary.
1. OG Mother 4 rebranded because of lack of creative freedom AND concerns over DMCA takedowns. This was stated in the rebrand announcement. 2. Nintendo doesnt need the permission of other co-owners to sue for infrigement, they don't even have to inform Hobonichi or Itoi that they are doing so. It is their right as a co-owner. 3. Itoi said it'd be impossible for him to make Mother 4 and he welcomes someone else do it. That "someone else" would be a new director. Acting as if what he said implies he's giving fans free rein to do whatever they want with his IP is taking what he said massively out of context. There is a big difference between collabing with artists to create an officially licensed piece of media and allowing an unlicensed piece of media infringing on their copyright to exist. Not saying it is likely that Nintendo or Itoi will come after them though, in all honestly I'm sure the project will be fine and I still wish the devs the best because what they've created looks stellar.

After waiting so long for Oddity, I really hope you guys can make this. Seriously there's so much effort and input already just from this trailer alone. Keep it up guys. I'd love to see a Mother 4 one day, like Itoi said, he'd love to play it

I wasn't sure about this project at first but after watching the trailer again I better appreciate all the passion and effort you put into this. The music is excellent, the environments look solid, there's some super creative enemy designs here and what we do see of the dialogue is pretty great. Happy Holidays to the team behind this game, have a good break for the holidays, we'll see you next year.
This looks really gorgeous, even hitting that nostalgic point with the music and style that represents Mother/EB. I've been waiting for Oddity release, ever since the first few instances of 2014 when it was shown, but it's been nothing since, besides a small update. I'm hoping that this game can come out, fully flourishing into it's own thing, there may be other games out there that help feel the void, but it's been do long since we've gotten anything EB or Mother related. I can't wait to see how the project goes, and including some updates later down the line, it looks fantastic so far.
As a Mother/EarthBound fan, i hope this project will not fail like Oddity and old Mother 4 project. I don't know if people who have had to do with the old one are working on this new project or not.

Tbh idk how you decide to handle the soundtrack but i'm not a fan of the "no leitmotiv" way to handle music of shane mesa. Don't get me wrong, he creates massives bangers, but the mother series really have a strong connection with the way it keeps some melodies through many differents musics that makes us attached to them. I'd love to be able to get that feeling again from new melodies/songs and such in mother 4
@@reese3141 indeed, but still Mesa talked in interview about his style and not really doing leitmotivs. Just two songs sharing one melody... Is not enough for me. Mother 3 litterally proved me how much we can twist a few melodies to create a much bigger impact. It's not dramatic to not reach the same amount of course... But just a bit more would be appreciated

I kinda wanted Maggie to be the tools dependent no psi party member since that role almost always falls on male characters and her design screams that to me, but still she gotta be one of my favorite fan design right alongside Floyd from Oddity as designs that you don't really see in Mother but fits perfectly in.
*THEORY:* Mother 4 takes places in a new universe that was created when Lucas pulled the final needle. Everyone in Mother 3 when the needle was pulled now take slightly different appearances and names and lost their memory from the past universe. Aaron is indeed Lucas. Aaron/Lucas goes on an adventure to "uncover ancient history" a.k.a. the events of Mother 3 and bring back everyones memories. The character Jared (shown on one of the Mother 4 website screenshots) is actually Claus. When the needle was pulled it brought back the dead people including Claus and Hinawa into the new universe. Take this theory made in literally 5 minute with a grain of salt though lol, I don't even actually fully believe it just wild speculation from me. In reality, Aaron just looks alot like Lucas because Ness looks a lot like Ninten and theres nothing more than that.
Don't worry about legal issues as with Kirby and mother for some reason those fangames don't get taken down. Itoi has said he doesn't mind fangames in interviews but for Hal I have no idea if they care or not
I already had the idea of making a Mother game, it would be about the world ending, and only the main boy could stop it, the logo would be a cracked planet Earth... too bad I can't do it.

OMG the transitions, the colors, the character design, the enemies, the animations, the PSI. I absolutely love EVERYTHING about this trailer. Oh one suggestion, i can see that Troy is an assassin, or a physical attacker with physical skills, so it would be an excellent idea for his skills to have original animations that make sense with his weapon, like the classic slash attack from rpg's, something like that, because attacks with personalized actions without animation 2:16 looks empty without personality, i hope someone in charge read this

Since Oddity rebranding to its own thing has opened up room for a new fanmade Mother 4, now there's another game to look forward to. Its been a long time. I remember being excited for this when i was still a teen, Im in my late twenties now. I doubt this game will ever be more than just the idea to make this game, but even that is enough
Looks good, and similar to Mother 3 in style. I think it's great that the Mother community is still thriving! Good job with the music aswell, it's one of the most important aspects of a Mother game imo.
I like it all, but i gotta say some stuff. The talking noises could be toned down, make it nice to hear but not too distracting, like the Mother 3 sounds. I also think the main character's shirt could be another color to differ from Lucas' since he already looks a lot like him. You guys are doing some serious good work, keep it up.
I really like that the original style is not spoled, but observed and modernized. And also Maggie personage seems really cool tho :) I wish you good luck, guys!
I personally think Mother 3 was a perfect ending to the series as it closes ties that Mother 1 and Mother 2 created. This game could be amazing if it took place say during the White Ship Incident as the game progresses it explains more of what caused the white ship incident and the beginning of Tazmilly Civilization. We'll see once trailers airs in 3 days (from this comment being posted.) Who knows the game might just take place in an entirely different universe than the one Mother 1,2, and 3 takes place in so we'll see
I can see it being similar to Steel Ball Run and JoJolion in the sense that even though they don’t take place in the same universe after Stone Ocean/Mother 3, they still follow-up with a brand new plot, setting, and characters.
What was Mother 4 years ago rebranded into a game called Oddity. This is a new Mother 4 attempt, which might probably be later rebranded as a different project name. I hope they both succeed.
This is amazing! I love seeing the mother community band together to make something truly special. It's one of the reasons I have been in the community for the past few years!
Words can’t express my anticipation, everything about it looks and sounds like a true Mother game, it’s so amazing! I hope for the best for the project, no matter how long it may take, and I’ll be supporting you guys all the way!
