One of the greatest "old lady" characters in sitcom history, Mother Dexter played perfectly by Judith Lowry, reveals her scandalous past and her obsession with burly action film actor Charles Bronson!
It was a great show, but Mother Dexter stole every scene she was in. The Producers knew it too, she was originally intended to be only an occasional character but she was progressively used more and more.
I thought Mother Dexter was an amazing supporting character, played by the hilarious Judith Lowry. I first noticed her in the movie The Anderson Tapes. This show was never the same without her. Thanks so much for posting!
"I was a hooker and a damn good one!" LMAO!!!! such a great actress. Too bad it wasnt on a few years earlier and she could have given even more classic episodes
Oh wow...what a GREAT compilation. Just re-lived my youth! I used to see TV Shows filmed live ALL the time - and loved MTM. When Cloris spun off Phyllis...I made it my mission to see ALL of shows - and I did (only missed two). Judith was just amazing (I even got her autograph!). Thanks so much for doing this - had not seen many of these since then!!!
You were actually in the audience for the filming or you only missed two shows that were aired on TV? How the heck did you get the autograph? Tell us about your memories. She is my favorite sitcom character of all-time.
@@shyman99 - The studio audience would line up outside the studio gate and then be ushered inside to the soundstage. One time, we waited a bit longer in front of the soundstage before going in and Judith came walking by (maybe from her trailer?). She had a studio page with her, of course to help. I jumped at the chance and she was kind. One other person followed suite, but then the page said she had to go. This was a fluke, as usually you did not see the actors except from the bleachers. A very special/fun time attending this and many other shows (MTM, All in the Family, Sonny & Cher, etc etc. ). MTM shows filmed in Studio City were my favorite. But even today, as I remember...I think...OMG...it was FREE too! Felt like the MTM actors/producers were my Family. I saw Gavin plop Betty White into that huge cake....!
@@wildman0228 - Thanks so much for replying! Had I lived in that area I would have done EXACTLY the same thing as I was in love with TV throughout the 70s. So many legends. I hope you hung onto Judith's autograph all of these years. maybe you can answer a question I have had for 40+ years. Who is the guy that makes a dopey laugh from the audience in so many MTM shows? It's ether someone who worked at the studio or someone like you who went to every taping.
@@shyman99 yep - James L Brooks one of the producers ! He went on to go MANY major films. Hey, since you’re an Phyllis /Mtm fan - there are two groups on FB that are fun. A man named David Davis admins them. Have a good day - abs for sure I still have all my old moments including an autographed Phyllis pilot episode from Cloris.
I haven't seen these in decades. I was 11-12 years old when this show was on in the mid 1970s. My great aunt Bea used to laugh out loud at Mother Dexter's antics. This takes me back to the summers I spent at my Grandma's house. Thanks for posting these...
She was a hoot and a half. She got some of the best lines ever. I seem to remember her warming up before going to see a hockey game. "Let's go Wings... Bust some heads!"
Fun fact: In the original 1974 Charles Bronson movie Death Wish, a movie poster for the Disney live action G-rated film Superdad can be seen on a subway car. Judith Lowry appeared in Superdad as Sorority House mother Mother Barlow. Lowry stole that movie too.
One of the best and funniest little old ladies in TV history... is Mother Dexter. Hands down. Long before Sophia Petrrillo on the Golden Girls... there was the wonder, and hilarity, of Mother Dexter’s wisdom.
Mother Dexter was the best thing about this show! And since she had a romance with Warren G. Harding, she was the fictional predecessor to Monica Lewinsky!!!!🤣🤣🤣
