Mothership III/Subversive by Pat McGrath Labs || Trying the Iconic Original Eyeshadow for 2 Weeks 

Subversive was my first PMG purchase when it launched. It really feels like makeup artistry when I use it. It pushes me to be creative & I love that. I deal with the flakiness of the said “special shades” by using Mehron or Mac mixing medium. Subversive is absolutely stunning with your skin & hair coloring! 😍💜

I have subversive and I do have a bit of an issue with the non-special shimmers. The black is definitely the worst for being crumbly and flaky, but I found the pink to be a little bit as well. The other shimmers seem to be a little bit on the satin side, which I am also disappointed in, but I like to top them with VR Pink to get over that. For how much she charges I wish there were no duds at all, and these were not up to par for me. But the other shades are solid gold to be honest and it is still a palette I love a lot!!!

I wish she would sell these shades in singles.

I've been thinking about purchasing subversive, it is so cool and a bit edgy, so different to all of the pinks which I do love so much too. I think PM makes the most wonderful pallets! I think I might get this around xmas time.

Subversive was the first PM palette I bought way back in the day and I still love it. It’s extremely versatile and was the only one I owned until Huetopian Dream came out. I also picked up Midnight Sun when it was like 40% off awhile back and now I feel like I have the right palettes for me with the exception of Subliminal. I’ll probably pick that up at some point, but I don’t love the direction she’s taking with the brand these days so the recent palettes have been a no for me. Her earlier palettes are really great, and they opened me up to applying my shadows with my fingers. I still use my fude blending and packing brushes for mattes and satins, but fingers for most everything else and I love it. This palette is close to my heart and I’m so glad you gave it another look. It’s perfect with your beautiful silver hair!

I enjoyed this video. Thank you. I do have Subversive. Motherships I-III and VI are my favorites because I love dark, smoky, grungy, vampy looks. I also love the baked celestial shades. I don’t have any problems applying the metallics from the palettes. I do wish the brand would go back to these unique and revolutionary color stories.

I use my fude brushes and my fingers and I can use most anything from this without fallout or patchiness. I find I can wear warm and cool shades now that I’m grey too. Thanks for sharing your fun with us.

And now you know why I can't shut up about Gigabyte. Also I am happy to see they have fixed the Astral shade, my Sublime and Subversive (it is in both) have the older formula of this shade that had a terribly dry an sandpaper-y texture. Yours seem to apply just like the Astral in Subliminal, smooth and sparkly.

Bought this two months ago and I’m really enjoying it. Love the special shades. I do think the original three mother ships are genius. I bought subliminal in December and sublime just came in the mail today. I don’t know why it took me so long to get these three.

Great looks! Subversive was my first serious makeup purchase and I have never regretted it. Completely entrances me to this day. I love the idea of using it every day!

I got my first two Motherships last year, they were Divine Rose II and Moonlit Seduction. For my 3rd, I was between Bronze Seduction an Subversive - and ended up following my gut with Subversive. I thought it would be great for the fall and winter holiday season, and since I had gotten a more neutral one before with Mothership X, I was happy with this next one being a wilder, more nighttime palette. I can't wait to wear Gigabyte to my birthday dinner ;) I actually have slightly warm olive skin, and I feel like these colors would flatter me equally. I would probably use the brown more than the black, and am kind of glad to hear it leans warmer as it will make a more seamless base for me. My thought process was honestly also this: Since it seems like PMG is going to veer into a more everyday/neutral direction in the coming years, I am wondering if they might discontinue or just not produce more of the wilder older motherships. Bronze Seduction, being a bestseller and crowd favorite, will most likely be around for longer if that is the case. I love seeing it the way you described though, that the time frame of the investor money and the creative genius coinciding might have passed with PMG, and that we as lovers of the OG PMG brand should just enjoy the palettes we have, buy the ones that still have that spark for us, and not complain about newer releases being too basic. Brands need to make revenue. And we are lucky to have access to some artistic products from the earlier days to keep enjoying :) I also feel like there is so much product in a Mothership it might last close to a lifetime if you have a few of them XD Your glam look is gorgeous on you btw!

Yes, the variety is what I appreciate in these palettes. I have been playing with Sublime which I just recently got - I had thought it would be boring, but it's so much fun! I think Subversive and Midnight Sun have the most variety in their color stories though. We must cherish these - we will never see anything like these ever again I don't think. My first Motherships were 5, 4, and 7. In that order.(full price). Then 1-3 (on sale😂), Then 6, also on sale. Then 8-10 all at once. Only 10 was full price. The only one I actually purchased at release was 10. I was late to the party for the rest. 😂 I only started watching beauty RU-vid in 2019. I really thought I would buy all of them. But still passed on 11. I love all the looks. 🤩 Beautiful!💛💛 I’m so happy that your channel appeared in my feed.

Looks like your palette has the new updated gold backing! Does it feel any different from the brushed metal in the older motherships?

Subversive is only one I own, and it is her BEST. The smaller platinum blonde or whatever, I forget the name, was the other one I was interested in but that got discontinued. If I was buying a palette now it would be Midnight Sun maybe. But being an opposite of a collector, I only like having 1-2 items from each brand, I will not be buying it. The 50 shades of berry/pink is not my thing
