For those reading at 1:57 I think there's an issue with the disk provided for the gray code and binary code photo detector output. I'm just a student in learning so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong Firstly I think the order of the numbers is wrong? I think it should be reading from the inner track to the outer track, i.e the left disk should be reading "0111" not "1110" Secondly, I think the left disk is supposed to be the "binary code" and the right disk is supposed to be "gray code"? Focusing again on the left disk, the reading "1110" =/= to number 7 for gray code or binary. The only way for it to make sense to me is that is supposed to read "0111" which is binary code for number 7 And also in the explanation it seems to me that the disk on the right is the one switching one number at a time not the one on the left which leaves me to think the right disk is the gray code disk. Although, I do not quite understand the right disk cause the values provided went from "0100" to "0000" in one 22.5 degree angle change, which makes no sense to me cause I was under the impression it should go in a specific numbering order Some confirmation would be greatly appreciated

What Is actual difference between the absolute and incremental encoders.. What is mean by Absolute encoder doesn't have the reference point.. and Incremental encoders have the reference point. Explain with real world examples..

This is why its important to know how to use powerpoint when you are an engineer. I guess the animation was outsourced? cool video though. thanks for the explanation!

Definitely. I know not what gray code is, but the left disk at 1:59 definitely binary just by looking at it.

Notes for this topic wat sir as explained in this video.. ___________________________________________ An Encoder is a device which converts the linear or rotary movement in to digital pulse output.. The common type of Feed back device is Absolute optical Encoder. It consists of 4 major components. they are A rotating Encoder Disk A light Source ( LED) A Photo Detector (light Sensor). A signal conditioner that converts a signals in to square waveforms.. The encoder disc consists of a series of Opeque and transparent tracks mounted to a rotating shaft. this tracks of the disc are arranged concentrically around the centre of the shaft. Number of leds n PDS are assigned to each track to designate the resolution of the encoder. The light source located on the opposite side of the photo cell or detector passes light through the capture plates, as the encoder disk rotates the light is either trasmitted or blocked according to the pattern of the disk. The Recieved light provides a 4 bit word that indicates the position of the indicator Or the device encoder is mounted to.. The common type of numerical encoders are Dec bin Grey code.. In 4 bit encoder their are 16 unique words (combinations or numeric codes ) for every 22.5 degrees (bcz 360/16= 22.5)

"Binary has greater chances of error because of multiple bits changing at samr time" If you read all the 4 bits as a numerical value instead of trying to intercrpt it as a quadrature code, like with an incremental encoder, maybe you would have less errors.

The encoder shouldn't be turning when the actuator is stationary because the motor isn't moving.
