Motion Tracking Adobe Premiere Elements is a fun feature that looks impressive, but it’s actually really simple!
The Motion Tracking tool allows you to add a graphic or object to your video clip, and then select how that object moves (or tracks) based on moving objects in your clip. It’s much easier to see in action, so I’ve partnered with Adobe to bring you a complete tutorial on Motion Tracking in Adobe Premiere Elements 2018.

I knew this motion tracking thing was there but never used it. I have been using Premiere Elements 13 for years and still have not hit all the tools and extras yet. I just figured out how to make the titles animated how funny is that. I also narrated my first video. Have never done that before. You do a good job with these tutorials.

Can you add your own images instead of the graphics?

When I try to do this, the tracking seems to work and I have my yellow rectangle. But whenever I drag a graphic to it, the rectangle n ever turns blue and it just drops my image into the clip unanchored to the track, any idea?

This was great Meredith. Until now, I have been motion tracking items manually (real PIA). This should save me lots of time. I imagine that I can also use this tool to also blur out items, such as a license plate on a moving car. I'm going to check out your FB page as well. Thanks for the help.

Amazing feature! .. unfortunately it seems like every time a new version of PE comes out, Motion tracking stops working in older versions. I bought PE 15, since I could not, for the life of me, consistenly add graphics or anything to the tracked objects in PE13 - sometimes the border would turn blue, sometimes it would just stay yellow (not-selected). In PE15 it worked flawlessly. Now it doesn't work again ... and all the support articles for all the issues people had with this feature seem to have vanished from the Adobe support forums.. coincidence? Who knows... frustratring with a pretty neat feature that works.. 'for everyone else'

I have this issue - scouring the webs and finding other people with the same issue and no solution. This sucks because I have 3 different Video Editing products - Premiere Elements 2018, Pinnacle Studio 21 (and 20), and Corel VideoStudio 2018. Pinnacle has all the features and is user friendly, but is very unstable. Corel is supposed to be the best one of the 3 of them, but the files I use are GoPro 2.7k files and for some reason Corel cannot handle them and plays choppy preview window. Premiere Elements is by far my favorite one because of its smoothness and stability, but OH MY GOD, I can't get the motion tracking to work (damn box won't turn blue!) and add on top of that the fact that it doesn't let you MANUALLY correct the tracked path that the program created makes me think I should not use the program, or use it ONLY when I know I don't need motion tracking.

I seem to have found a possible solution - from what I understand, this is what people in Adobe forums describe: Say you are working on a 10 minute video and the part you want to motion track is 8 seconds long, so you split that portion of the video into a separate 8 second clip and motion track it - this results in the "bug" which keeps the frame yellow and wont' let you attach assets to the tracked motion. They suggest instead to NOT split that 8 second portion out of the entire video, instead, place the header at the point where you want to start tracking the motion, then track the motion (again, WITHOUT splitting the clip, track it by selecting the ENTIRE video) - the tracking will not go on for the whole 10 minutes, eventually it falls off the object you are tracking, so no worries there, but the important part is that you will now be able to attach assets to the tracked motion. I'm at work right now, but I will try this when I get home. The point is, do not split the portion of the clip that you want to track, just move the header to the beginning of the part where you want to track the motion and track it while having the entire video selected.

Does Adobe try to make Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements good companion apps? Would it be better to use Premiere Elements along side Photoshop Elements instead of with Pixelmator Pro or Affinity Photo?

My apologies if this has already been answered, but will motion tracking work with a mask? I tried using a wall as a green screen (I know, I'm the moron, but I'm just working on a video for my kids, not pro stuff!). Anyway, lots of shadows and a wiggly son and I'm looking for an easier way to track him with the applied mask. TIA!

I was able to add pics to Imovie before but now my PC is windwos 10 i can't use it and I have 3 editing programs but i am just not that tech savy to figure them out and a lot of tutorials assume you know the basics and I don't. That looks like a nice feature to and I would have so much fun with it

Can you create callouts in PE? I need to use it to create simple training videos and be able to overlay arrows and circles to highlight certain things I want my students to notice. If so briefly how, or where can I go to learn how to?

Do you also have the option to blur something .. or someone.. using tracking ? With this version. I once learned that in school , but that program was ofcourse much more expensive , it was Avid.

So I have this program but I have to use handbrake to convert the GoPro videos to be able to use them with adobe. Is there anything that can be done to bypass handbrake? I think it reduces the quality of the GoPro videos.

Hello vidpro mom. I have a question. I added the wedding overlay in instant movie and it didn't really jive with all my video but I really like the doves flying through. can I just use the doves overlay myself without using the instant movie option?

You can. Say you have a picture file you want to motion track - add the media to your assets, put the graphic on the video without the motion tracking and do all the edits to it that you need to (sizing, position, etc.), then delete it from your timeline - this will save it in your project assets. Now do the motion tracking - when it's complete, instead of choosing a graphic from the panel that opens up, look at the top right area and you'll see "Project Assets" button - click on it and you will find your graphic there - drag it and drop it and the rest is the same - adjust like you would the default graphics. You can also do this with text without the speech bubble - create a text/title, delete it, when you create your motion tracking, it will appear in project assets which you'll be able to drag and drop.
