After feeling low for a few weeks and really struggling with motivation to get outside and take photos, things have started to turn around. Today I feel good, I feel excited to get out and enjoy some landscape photography and I feel motivated. I load some Kodak Portra 160 film in to my Hasselblad 501cm and head to the beach. I encounter a storm, beautiful light and a glorious sunrise. I hope you enjoy this video and if you're feeling like you can't or shouldn't get out with your camera, I hope this video can help turn things around for you. 10% off your first Squarespace website or domain: www.squarespac...

Using the labs - pros and cons - drum scaning - differences in sending file specs. for saybook publication as opposed to large prints for display -would make a great vid Thomas as there is so little info. on the web that I can find.

@@ThomasHeatonPhoto How would it be in black and white with a bit more contrast? More dramatic or just a bit too cliche...?

It's a passe' tourist or freshman art student throwaway. And Heaton knows it, he won't print it. He has a fantastic eye, not a junk tourist picture eye. He's just playing with the 'Blad.

The best locations are closer than one thinks and on most peoples doorstep. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just look outside, there is a picture to be had at every sunrise and sunset, its all about the light.

What's up Thomas? Glad to see you're in such good spirit on such a nice morning at the beach. It appear you've really adapted your self to that great film camera you have. I think everyone should at lease try it, because it can teach you much more about photography than digital. You see, they're is something about film that make you appreciate what you're doing more, because everything is done in camera; there is no delete button. What you see is what you get. So you have to be spot-on. Looks to me you're doing real good. Enjoy the rest of your morning. Peace!!!!

Love the soft, peaceful colours of Portra. Way better than the garish, boring hell so many people favour these days. And I'm with you on trying not to include people but, interestingly enough, my favourite from what I made today includes two people. Go figure... Thanks for another nice watch!

Saw that dramatic sky when you first hit the beach and wondered why you didn't shoot it. But then it became clear from your focus that your mindset was to find tranquility, peace and the more subtle beauty of Nature. Something we all crave right now. Loved the dog trying to give you its blue toy at the end. Cheers.

I really like the first image with the storm clouds and the lifebuoy ring. The colour is amazing! My other favourite is the image with the people in it. I normally don't like people in my images but I agree with one of the comments below about getting candid shots and another comment that this can add so much. The person walking by with the dog would have made a lovely image but I think you were still setting up at that stage. Thank you Thomas.

Don't worry about doing voice-overs. They're perfectly fine. In fact, for "quieter" videos they're a little less immediate than live talk, and therefore more appropriate. And we'd rather hear a voice-over than have you miss a shot because you were talking to us while the light is changing!

Some years ago the late writer Tom Weir (Scots Magazine) said he often asked his wife to wear a red jacket, particularly when there was likely to be swathes of green in a landscape, and then placed her in a spot to help balance the composition. A useful accessory :-).

Hi Thomas nice vlog . I'm still shielding at home . I. Had so many ideas for photos . Then march we went into lockdown . Then they said you have to shield . Ok no worries it's what it is . August we had a cheeky trip in the caravan. I managed a few shots on the beach not great conditions . Remember I'm still shielding haha . New year new start as they say . New major lockdown & shield again . Since first lockdown mid October we moved . My photography has come alive again at last . We moved 6 miles . New village new photo opportunities abound . We all lose our way photographically. What I'm getting at it comes back one way or another . Love you're vlogs , very honest .
