It was incredibly difficult to sing outside as a metal band with the set up they had in the early 80s - no backing tracks or other musicians, just four guys and their instruments, very raw, they were just getting started..and they rocked
@@StaticYonder I wont say Vince is some great vocalist but the bands you just mentioned also had some tours where they struggled as back then playing stadiums was extremely tough especially at festivals with 20 bands as the sound setup just wasnt that great. Back then there was no backing tracks and all this auto tune type stuff. (I agree Vince has more issues than those iconic front men you named) Crue's contribution to rock however cant be understated.
@@juantavarez05 Priest had easily 10 hard years, thousands of hours playing recording and touring over Motley Crue at this point. Halford was already a singing legend in 83. Crue were rookies relatively speaking, you can see it here. Neil is not an elite metal singer but he had improved on this performance. They blew the doors off Ozzie warming up for them a year later. As for the other comment on Motörhead, that’s actually funny. Imagine Lemmi singing Take me to the Top or Sill Loving You, that’d be weird.
Simply devasting. Great Mick , he knowed that people out there wanted a very loud sound. Right Van Halen? It wasnt a party in a room but a metal day !!
This band is legendary! I respect Vince for the energy and singing till failure. Anyone who sings knows what happens. And god knows they were partying there asses off
These guys toured non stop and played night after night while partying their asses off. The fact that there were any vocal chords left in Vince's throat at all is remarkable. I was a lead singer in a small time local band for 5 years and if we played a show back to back two nights in a row my voice was gone completely for a week. Completely. Amazing that all these crazy dudes in the 80s worked it as hard as they did. Cocaine. For sure.
He went a very long way with limited singing abilities, but fuck he sounds great on records and YES he's wealthy while the rest of the haters are working smucks. I believe although he can sound good he may actually be a little tone deaf OR was having are hard time hearing himself.
Vince Neil was the perfect singer for this band. Their vibe was raw sleazy LA rock and roll. Sure you could have a better singer but Vince was born to lead this band.
Hahaha!! Tell that to Tommy😅Vince in his prime couldn't sing to save his ass. As well as axle. They both completely SUCK live. Studio musicians at best😄
Dan Flory wanna hear a story see I’m 24 I know a few older people who I’m going to be honest they was hoessssss lol. Well the word is that axl had a hard time getting it up even when he was young was terrible I mean awful in bed and he smelled very very disgusting very smelly lol. I’m not playing. Maybe that’s why he’s such a bitch all the time. And those women that I know through my parents very close friends aren’t the only ones many women have said this about axl. And this is no lie they have pictures with the band members and axl. And other bands. This one she will tell you her name is sandy she will tell you I was a whore and a groupie she slept with Nikki Sixx, axl, one of the guys from a band that I think is called steel panthers, Vince Neil, almost did with peter steele but he didn’t, and a lot of other bands. I even think one of the guys from warrant, and believe me it was a lot of the “rockers” she had it all in a book with photos I’m not joking give me till tomorrow I’ll give ya a full list 🤣😂😂
@@bipolatelly9806 I hear ya.😜 Its not too evident here. Verses are straight ahead but there's some groove in the chorus . im looking more at his overall playing.Ive seen him for 30 years. Imo..Lee is a powerhouse drummer with some groove.Songs like Dr feelgood or looks that kill are more obvious examples. 🌟
Victor C. You should listen to him live on the Doctor feelgood tour. Guy was spot on, sang every word, and stayed in key. But I think what made the difference is they were SOBER on that tour!!! Seriously you should go check it out, and I think their best live version of this song is on their live album entertainment or death, go check it out man! And rock on 🤘
Proud to live through the greatest times in America...1960's,70's,80's,early 90's were the Best...I Pity kids today...they'll never understand how America Died yrs ago.
Wow, Vince avoided the long high "live wiireeeeee" as much as he could giving the mic to the crowd... which did not fill the void, hahaha. "Let me hear ya!" SILENCE. :-)
@@xulossinfronteras95 sounds cruel but: it's true but very enjoyable, Violence still exist, but now most of people use a gun, no more ✊ fist fights! 😥😥 Internet it's good but I dont miss it when it's down, I love walk without cell phone in my hands...
I miss the parties in the parking lot like AC/DC, Crue, Iron Maiden, so many great memories. A collection of fans celebrating!! Now it's a fucking loitering charge.
I remember when this album came out. We wore it out. Our band loved doing motley Crue songs. Easy drums, very easy, difficult vocals because of Vince's sound, Very fun to play guitar lines. It must be said, no Mick Mars, no motley Crue. Absolutely the heart and soul of the motley Crue sound.
Wouldn't change a thing about Motley Crue...however...I wonder, in an alternate reality, what they would've sounded like if Sebastian Bach was their vocalist.
Funny you say that abiut Bach. Saw Skid Row on Kiss tour years ago and he said that this is his favorite song by Crue. Performed it, and yeah, it would've been awesome.
I saw motorhead a year before Lemmy passed and this was at the point when he was forgetting lryics and playing completely different songs than the rest of the band, he says...this next song is called Motorhead cause we are motorhead, you are Motorhead! And starts playing Ace of spades, that band went along with every punch he threw😂, Cause he messed up the lryics and just played whatever he felt like and it was the sickest song ever! The way his band kept up with all the changes was unreal! I'll never forget that! Amazing band!
I will say this for Vince, he is singing dry, no reverb or delay on his Vox and that’s a big deal for vocal assistance, I always used reverb and it helped a bit. He sounds pretty good actually
it sounds like this was recorded off what was going into the soundboard, not what was being sent to the PA..... and yep, his voice sounds very dry (lacking of any post effects and delay + reverb will really add a lot to that dry signal)....
Growing up i used to have a tape I made for myself titled "good morning neighbors" that had a lot of metal and hard rock but i had quite a few Motley Crue songs with this one starting off the tape followed by too young the looks that kill! then some assorted tunes but every morning I cranked it while getting ready for work, those were the days!
Two months before this show, they opened for KISS on their Creatures tour. I remember Vince at the end of the set Vince shreeking *"SEE YOU AT THE US FESTIVAL !"*
On behalf of the rock bands that played that day I would like to thank Motley Crue for playing their set at what would usually be their bedtime! Those of you who wanna give Vinny shit about the way he sounded, let's take YOUR band out of a club and open a show this big and lets see how you do!
You guys are tripping balls Vince's voice was fucking great his high pitched screaming was what made it unique and also Tommy Lee was a hell of a drummer 🔥🤘💯
Bless his heart I fucking love them though I seen them 7 yrs ago in mobile al. At bay fest and his voice was completely gone. But we still rocked out!! Good times growing up listening to them🤘🏼💋
This is the same show ('81 US FESTIVAL.)where Tommy Lee said in an interview only a few years later, that he went backstage and literally cried because he thought the band was absolutely terrible compared to the others that played that day. He was right..Crue were still cutting their teeth and had no experience playing in this type of live situation, and it's evident in this performance. However, they had to start somewhere, and although their musicianship was terrible (except for Tommy) there is still a cool, obvious, raw energy about them. They would later harness that raw energy into one of the best live hard rock acts of the 80s. Still enjoy vintage Motley Crue 👍
Personally, I love the raspiness of Vince. It gives a grunge vibe and I absolutely love it. But of course I’ve only been on this earth for 14 and a half years, so I wouldn’t know. But I’m fucking glad I was born and raised on rock
I saw them twice on this tour. The first time was out doors at the Monsters of Rock concert in 1984 in Nurnberg, Germany . I saw them again indoors in Erlangen, Germany and my GOD they were loud!! When they sang "Bastard' it was like the broke the sound barrier. It was that loud. On that tour they opened for Iron Maiden on their Powerslave tour. It was so exhausting that I walked out, all sweaty and Iron Maiden was still playing.
Ooff ... the whole Live Wire mating call / song intro was BRUTAL! ! It’s a great song tho and a cool old video. I saw them a couple of times Girls & Dr feelgood tour and glad I did. They were a definitely a kick ass band.
No wonder why Tommy Lee begged the producers to cut Motley's performance from the final presentation on cable tv. Obviously, Vince's shitty vocal performance was the primary reason, but the band fucked-up some crucial changes in about three other songs earlier in their set as well.
John Brown Wrong, wrong, and wrong again. That makes you and the other weak troll zero-for-seven. And all because you crybabies were so deeply wounded by my original comment, in which every word was true.
John Brown I'm not black, you idiot. But thanks for exposing what a shallow, pea-brained bigot you are. It's no wonder. Every time you speak you are dead wrong. And those are ANTI-Scientology videos, you fucking bozos!
