I was going to go for the Mandello S, but at the last minute bought the new R12 ninet🤣. It lacks the protection but is more flickable and more torquey on back roads. I loved my demo of the Mandello and is definitely the best bike I've ridden on motorways, better than my old GS1250 in terms of feeling and fun factor.

Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your insights. BMW’s boxer is a great engine and full of torque and torque is fun 🤩 Congratulations on the new bike safe journeys.

It seems that while embracing newer technology Moto Guzzi has kept its soul. BMW lost its soul by removing the Tele-Lever from the R1200/R1250 R & RS and replacing it with GIZMOtronics rather than retaining superior suspension engineering.

Once owning both a R1100S w/Tele-lever and K1200R w/Duo-lever; telescopic forks(inverted or not) are innately inferior in regards to resistance to bump-steer and brake-dive(steering stem bearing maintenance is also eliminated). Adding GIZMOtronics to telescopic forks is like putting a Band-Aid on a patient with Spina Bifida. It's only valued by production cost bean-counters and Moto-Luddites.

@@Texas2Tires Yes, it is a modern bike that takes the 1992 R100RT and puts in where BMW never did. A modern light (~ 500 pounds) do it all shaft drive bike that is as pretty to look at as the R100RT, and far, far easier to ride as any updated bike of any brand will be. But, I like the bikes character and twin cylinder layout. Very little rocking issue or pinion climb compared to the old BMW but those mostly never bothered me anyway. I like HOW the power of this engine is developed, it actually loves to rev like my old CB750F but pulls WAY harder. With the better shaft management, I get zippy on this thing where the BMW said to just stop it, already please. Weirdly, the smaller looking seat far exceed the wide flat BMW seat. Go figure. I wanted a little more roadster and less barn door fairing touring bike. But with the GIVI touring fairing you could go anywhere on the bike. Fairings are a few minutes to change/ I have three, short, medium and tall. Wind protection is good even stock as it takes the hang-on for dear life pressure off your chest. The taller screens just throw bugs and rain over your head and less into your face shield! What I do not like about it; - No storage to speak of for gloves or small items. - Luggage panniers are smaller than I like. - Checking the oil is a pain as it needs to be off the center stand to be accurate, and leaning over to pull the stick and not accidentally tilt the bike and spill oil is silly. I re-set the "full" level reference on the stick with the center stand down (a small notch higher on the stick is now full). - Instrument cluster is too "sport bike minimalist" small. Bigger please. - For me the bars aren't just right. I added ROX 1.5" up and back bar risers to get them better for my motocross aged back. Not so bad now but still off perfect for me. - Seat to pegs could be larger reach, but again this may be my 66 years old frame saying that. But so what, it is what I am today! Service is pretty easy on stuff you'd do yourself. Oil changes, brake pads (Brempo), and front shock oil (Ohlins), alternator belt and battery. The really good service manual goes into detail on every aspect of DIY so you can judge what's out of your reach or desire to do. The bike is way too new for reliability but like most modern things, it is a Heinz 57 design with parts made all over the world, brakes, shocks, alternator, levers, mirrors you name it. The engine and chassis are Moto Guzzi for sure but most service items are spread across lots of bikes...same parts. That's fine, they're good parts. My engine has been 100% as promised. Mechanically quiet (no more valve train clatter!) just a nice whirring coming to s stop. The engine uses no oil between changes. There were some external radiator fasteners that were not installed right but that's an easy fix and not really built-in to the bike. Mine was fine so that problem got trained out. Again, my bike has just under 6K (went 130 miles today 48 F is kind of chipper, but it was sunny and dry in Ohio) and zero issues. It is what it is for like / dislike. No problems with that.

@@rower30-mt3tb Thank you kindly for this deep review of your experience with the bike thus far. In my short test ride, I obviously couldn't come to these conclusions. The one thing I loved right away was the sound, followed by the smoother quick shifter. That engine sounds sweat. My RS has that clucky shifter and tick tick tick sound coming from the boxer. Again thank you for the details, safe journeys to you.

They don't offer the S version in the white with gold trim like they do on the base model, which is a real disappointment. That color scheme makes this one of the best looking bikes on the road. The colors choices for the S version make it look like any other bike on the road. I'm not even a white color kind of guy, but that white is so good looking on this thing.

Thanks for checking out the video. I agree. It’s nice to have a bike that’s distinctive and if you can get it in a unique good looking color scheme, even better. Just checked the colors on the moto guzzi site and yes that white really does stand out.

I’ve been co side ring this bike back in April, next to the RS, but eventually I made up my mind and went for the RS without testing the Guzzi, just based on the way I felt about the torque the RS had. The specs were saying the Mandello could not achieve the same. Nevertheless, it definitely has its qualities and whether going for the Italian or the German depends on tastes, riding style. Thanks for this review from an RS owner perspective ✌️

Thanks for watching and commenting. It was a fun ride and interesting to compare it to my RS. The quick shifter was definitely better. I heard from my friend at my local BMW dealer that BMW has fixed the clunky quick shifter on the new 1300 boxer. I hope so.

Excellent video! I recently purchased a RS 1250 2023 and it was between the RS and the Mandello. I test rode the RS and liked it so much that I did not test ride the Mandello. I asked you your opinion about this bike and you stated that the riding position was similar to the BMW X 2 Model I believe. Do you still think that? I purchased my bike with the tubular bars and initially I did not want that but after doing a little research and BMW site says the tubular bars are better for long distance riding and I think handling. Would you consider those kind of bars? Ultimately, I went for the BMW because I think the Mandello like many Moto Guzzi's might be a bit quirky and since dealers are not as close to my city (50) miles or (32) miles if I go to San Fransisco and I would not do that due to traffic issues, I went for the BMW for dealer access etc. The BM W feels like all of the parts nuts, bolts etc is quality parts does that Mandello feel the same? Also, the Ohlins suspension does it seem better than BMW suspension? Finally, I think the Mandello has a shorter wheelbase than the RS and I thought that it might be more nimble than the RS but not as stable on the highway. Your thoughts? Would you trade your RS in for the Mandello? Thanks and this was a surprise video!

@Texas2Tires 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for checking out the video, commenting and your questions. First off, congratulations on your RS purchase. I personally wouldn't want the tubular bars on my RS because I like the sporty lines. The tubular bars are definitely more comfortable. The V100 has the tubular bars and a more upright riding position, which was much more comfortable than my RS. With that said, I still prefer my RS. It has more torque and looks better in my opinion. Agree that it would suck buying a bike that doesn't have service available close by. I guess I'm lucky here in Austin. We have pretty much every brand of bike located within a 20 minute radius of my home. The V100 seemed to be a quality built, but I didn't go over it with a fine tooth comb. Nothing really stuck out as being low quality, but also agree BMW is typically a solid quality build. The suspension was fine a bit overkill to be honest. The settings and adjustments are very deep and would take time for me to dial them in, but I didn't feel a huge difference in the performance. The RS is definitely more nimble or flickable due to the lower center of gravity with the boxer engine. Again thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Safe Journeys!

The Mandello sure caught my eye when it was released! Nice lines! Very sweet to be able to adjust the suspension like that on the TFT. As for the quickshifter.. well, I bought a second bike (2019 Triumph Street Triple RS) and even it's quickshifter is better than the BMWs! Like significantly. Bam bam, quickfire selection especially in the low gears. Beside that quibble, my RS Bimmer at 16,000 km in little over a year. Love it!

I love my RS even with its quirky shifter. I understand the new 1300 boxer has a new gearbox which has a smooth shifter. I need to experience that for myself at some point.

Great comparo. It's the only real competition to the RS. I prefer the looks and the character of the MG if I wasn't already invested in my RS I'd jump for the MG. Your dealership has a great selection of bikes BTW.

Thanks for watching the video and commenting. I appreciate it. Although I really enjoyed my ride on the V 100 I still prefer my RS. With that said if I owned a V 100 and test road a RS I would probably prefer my V. 100. 😂

Great video and a very useful comparison! I asked for a software update during the 10,000 km service on my ‘22 RS and it seemed to help with the off-on throttle response. Perhaps something to try on yours? Keep up the good work and ride safe!

Thank you for watching and commenting, appreciate it. Each time I bring my RS in for service they hook it up for down loads, but seems only certain downloads are available for each year. My is a 2020, so I can't get some of the newer updates. I'm so used to my RS that changing it would probably throw off my riding style...hahaha. Enjoy the bike, safe journeys!

How is the vibration compared to BMW? Do you think it is a motorcycle suitable for long rides? Or is it a bit like naked feel?
@Texas2Tires
@Texas2Tires 9 месяцев назад
Hard to say on the vibration as I’m so used to my bike. I don’t remember it being any smoother than my RS. It was comfortable, but yes more like a naked bike. For long hauls I would go with a different bike or get a larger windshield.
@rower30-mt3tb
@rower30-mt3tb 7 месяцев назад
It doesn't vibrate it audibly thrums super nicely at cruise speed. Bars are 100% calm as are the give-away mirrors ratting vibration out. My 1992 R100RT vibrated far more and the fairing mounted right side mirror was useless but the left side mirror was dead calm, weird. I never figured it out. Bars had a stronger low frequency vibe than the Mandello. When I test rode The V100, not the S, after hopping off the R100RT it was like an electric bike! Now that I'm used to it, it is still a cream puff to ride hours at a time. I'm good for a DQ after 150 miles anyway! I use three different screens depending on where and when I go. Small (stock), medium (BIONDI touring) and tall (GIVI maxi touring). I usually run the BIONDI in the summer and turn off the side air deflectors to get more cool air around me. In the evening I rise the screen to toss bugs off my face shield. The taller screens put more stuff over your face-shield like rain and bugs. Long term in Ohio you get way to much face litter with your helmet "naked". The airflow is super smooth stock so if you don't have bugs, you're good! This stuff is really true for any bike with a fairing windshield shield, though.

Nice video, I just traded in my 2016 MG eldorado . So glad that I owned a MG, they are a querky and cool bike to own. I am not into the RS type of bikes but this MG is such a good looking bike. Thank you for the dealership walkaround as well, nce job to showcase the great selection they have there. I did get my MG serviced there one time and they were great to work with. Thanks again.
