It is interesting to see that I am not the only one, there seems to be a misconception with a lot of dealers stateside and in Europe, that they think the first service is done at 600 miles like for most Japanese bikes, the owner manual however clearly states 900 miles ... I had to educate my dealer as well ... =)
Thanks for the heads up. Just bought a 2022 850 V7 Special. I have about 300 miles on it. I won't make that mistake and go in for the first service too early.
My closest dealer is 3 hours from me. I'm hoping the UpMap device I have purchased for this bike may allow me to reset it under a DCT page. BTW, the reason I bought the T800 device with diagnostic cable is because I wanted to download a map and reflash the ECU after adding the Agostini pipes. Well....GCorse finally release three maps for the V7 850!!! A map for stock (that improves stock performance) a map for aftermarket exhaust with db killers, and a map for aftermarket exhaust without db killers (which is what I did). The bike runs so much better now! Before I remapped it, there was a lot of hesitation when giving throttle in first gear. The new map fixed all that. I highly recommend.
Small world. I saw your bike up there Saturday morning when I was picking up my new V7. I recognized it from your posts. Hope to run into you some day.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I also have a V7 850 and was also told the first service was at 600 miles and later learned that the manual said 900 miles. I am at 960 miles but the service light has not yet come up. I'm tron between doing the service and just going agin whenever the light decides to come up or keep on waiting. Luckily my service center is only about 20mins from my place so I am thinking to just do the service so the bike is in good shape and go again later whenever the light decides to come up. What do you think? Thanks!
If the dealer told you 600 miles that is because they don't know what they are selling ... lol. Most modern bikes are due at 600 but Moto Guzzi's at 900, they are indeed different. Your light should have come on at 900 tbh. I would bring it in past 900 miles for the first service but get assurance that if something wonky is going on with your service light, that they reset it for free after the fact. It takes them 2 min to hook it up and click a box on the computer to reset it ... =)
A wrench appears on the dash of my Street Triple 675 when the service interval is reached.... I call in at the dealer... he connects the diagnostic computer and switches it of...I change all the fluids, filters etc myself so only need engine...ie: valves, plug change, cam chain adjustment and so on...this is only because I haven't a garage, don't like taking the engine apart in the front garden..900 miles to the dealer, not just around the corner then.. I considered a second hand MV Agusta Brutalli..the nearest Dealer 500 kilometres away...No!!
The key is in the manual.....you need to do 900 miles before the first service ....not your dealership fault or Guzzi's fault but yours. Did mine with 901miles....plan ahead.
I do the basic maintenance on my 2018 v7 III carbon shine(oil change, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, valve check/adjust and when mileage demands the final drive oil or gearbox oil) and when the little service wrench symbol came on, I couldn't be bothered to have the dealer reset it. No biggie. I really want to test ride the new v7 850 to see if its worth the upgrade. Dealership told me they are expecting a demo bike by end of april. fingers crossed.
No big deal I bought a new Ducati, and I only use it to go to the beach and get coffe and chitchat with other bikers, after my first oil change require by Ducati , I rode the bike over 300 miles within a year and the annual service require shows up in my dashboard., So I took my bike back to the dealer and told me that my bike don't need the service and that is ok to ride it like that. So I did the annual service 2,550 miles later. Forgot to mention that Ducati can reset the and take off the service out of my dashboard but I have to pay for it, which I decline cause is free when they do the annual service.
That is the same answer I have gotten from MotoGuzzi, kind of ridiculous in my book if you ask me. I know the light by itself is not a big deal, but it bothers me personally.
To be honest this is the only illogical thing on Piaggio group bikes. It happened to me with my Shiver before. But there is a solution, next time every scheduled service will be done after the service light will be lit. ;-)
Had the same thing with my v7 special. I was asked to bring the bike in for first service at 600 miles. When I took it in I asked them to check as the manual states 930m. They did the service anyway, said it wouldn't matter but would need to take it back again to have the service light reset. I'm in the UK.
Moto Guzzi seems to be the oddball here with 900 miles. I noticed even Aprilia has the 600 first service. I can imagine that this is throwing dealers off but then again, know your product ... lol
I wonder what happens when owners want to service their own bikes, as many Moto Guzzi owners prefer to do this? They would probably have to live with service indicator on permanently.
Yes, it's a doozie, hence I am a little puzzled about this, that is kind of what being a Guzzista is all about and what the brand stays for, simple bikes that you can tinker with, I guess times are changing even for MG a bit.
Hello. I made my 1 revision on my centenario stone at 1000km as my dealer told me to do. 500km after the wrenche symbol show up. I call the dealer and they told me that the 1 revision was change to 1500 km by the official motoguzzi factory and they cannot erase that at 1000km because they connect the bike to the computer and they dont have the ability to do anything. From now one i will do the revisions every 5000km. Cheers from portugal!
Interesting, there seems to be a lot of different information out there from the dealers, mine was under the impression that it was due at 600 miles, only after I corrected him and he looked it up, he said 900 miles or in your case, 1500km is the correct answer. If you had the wrench before 1500km, then there is something else going on, he should be able to read the error code.
I had a similar experience with my Centenario's first service in July; the dealer told me 500 miles and I took it in at around that mileage. The service light came on at around 900 miles (1500Km I suppose) and I took the bike back and had the light reset (for free). I really should have checked the manual, but I assumed that the dealer was correct. Have you encountered Guzzi starter interruptus yet?
Funny you mentioned that, my dealer said the same until I asked them to check and confirm that it was indeed 900 miles, kinda scary when they don't know the product they are selling.
It's unfortunate that they messed up on the mileage for the first service. As first impression go, it doesn't instill much confidence in their staffs knowledge of their product. I am surprised that the tech didn't question the bike being there.
@@Thunder_Bear_mg That seems to be a theme with MG dealers based on the comments here. Most dealers are not just a MG dealer but house 3 or 4 brands. But still, no excuse, since this is all they do ... technically.
Dang WingsGeo that's ridiculous. Thanks for the heads up. I'm at about 700 with my V85 so I will certainly wait until that light triggers. Having a light going on later where only the MG dealer can turn it off is not helpful. Stupid Piagio are you hearing this? Blaze on.
Yes, wait for after the service light or symbol comes on, should not happen before 900 miles. And btw, if you drive it to the dealer, they won't touch the bike for at least 2 hours, according to my dealer they wait until it cools down to check / adjust the valves.
