I wish these engineers can modify my Ninja 300's gearbox, so that during my daily commute to work, I can use maximum speed for every corner I take, with minimal power loss. It would make my ride to work that much more convenient.

Your on a 300 not a 1000 i don't think you should worry about power loss and your not Rossi yet, id concentrate on riding safely. What I can agree with you is on my bike, i'd prefer if i down shifted to go up in gear

***** Haha. I ride a stock cbr600rr, merely a powercommander and a few comfort mods, nothing special at all, and what you speak of is completely true, stock transmission in a corner is a nono. Changing gear laying low is not even the LAST of my thoughts, it's not in my thought process at all. That'd be scary shit.

@KekasihMuGelap- some production bikes already have up/down quickshifters as factory options e.g. the latest BMW GS/RT/XR, Ducati Panigale and others. You can also get kits to fit them to a bike that does not have a factory option. I have fitted it on my own bike and it's really nice.

I don't know for sure because I do not work in a MotoGP workshop, but as far as I know, cable clutches are heavier and have less input linearity when compared to hydraulic clutches. HCs can also be more expensive to maintain, what seems irrelevant when you have millions in cash to spend anyway. Personally, I think it's a case of using simple technology that you know willget the job done while keeping the motorcycle light.
@GixxerManiac420
@GixxerManiac420 11 лет назад
Well when you have 250 hp on a 350lb rocket I think that's already enough to handle to warrant the aided shifting. Everyone knows about quick shifting for higher gears but that's interesting they control the throttle blip for the down shifts. I guess if you had to do it manually you would risk over revving the match and could chance disrupting the weight transfer on front wheel when ur trying to brake hard to slow ur machine from 200 mph.
@hanskjellsson2319

The only reason is that The Electronic is so much faster then human. A PRO rider dont overrev on downshifts..you learn your non PRO bikes down revs in a couple of hours, these guys job is to ride bikes, so I guess they would figure it out in a heart beat :)

SlimMGV yeah i found one on ebay its pretty expensive. i do blip shift but having to use the clutch repeatedly around town gives me the cramp.
@philipcooper8297
@philipcooper8297 10 лет назад
It does not disengage the clutch. Quick shifter cripples the ignition for couple of mili seconds, it's the same like when you cut the throttle to shift up/down. It can't even disengage the clutch, the only motorcycle that could disengage the clutch when you operated the gear lever was made by Jawa ages ago, it was semi-automatic, fully mechanical. They still hold the patent, so not gonna see that any soon. The quick shifter unit can be mounted on any motorcycle with manual gearbox. @akupehsluarketatAR, you do not have to use the clutch to shift up at all, and if you're good enough you do not even need to use it to shift down. But I must warn you, if you down shift when the speed of the final driver and the engine is not equal, you can damage your gear box. To shift up, just cut the throtle, kick it up, then back on throttle. Once you try it, it won't go back. Faster you go, more revs you have, easier it is.

I mean high end,modern sports bikes come equipped from showroom floor with quick shifters for up shiftbut not the downshift, guess that technology had to trickle down from the pros. That's why I love motogp more then just the racing there so advanced that they move our street bikes ahead in technology leaps and bounds over what the average trial and error ever would be able to accomplish.

@MPI1000
@MPI1000 9 лет назад
Richard Mazur Yeah, I wonder why all bikes aren't "reverse/GP"-shift. In fact, my old Yamaha FS1 moped was "reverse shift" as stock. When you're on track it just feels more natural, especially with a quickshifter.
@lillnemo1
@lillnemo1 8 лет назад
+Turklimanc If you really worry about downshifting on the road, you shouldn't ride at all or you are going way too fast they don't even teach downshift-blipping anymore in our trackschools, cause it's virtually unneccessary. with or without slipperclutches. if the instructors (who were and some still are great racers in international championships) tell us to slip the clutch without blipping, that's what I'll do.
@xmazurx
@xmazurx 8 лет назад
+lillnemo1 I downshift on the street because I use engine braking a lot to slow down. Have done that with my cars and now with my motorcycle since I started driving. It's just what I am accustomed to. I don't understand the part you mention about not rev-matching on the track and just slipping the clutch. I still see pros rev-matching plenty. I have a track event coming up and may try the method of just slamming the gears down with the clutch disengaged and slipping it back in without rev-matching. Seems like I would have to give up some of my attention to try this method, though, I expect to be slower.
@dayleclarke4433
@dayleclarke4433 8 лет назад
+lillnemo1 I watched a cheaply video about track downshifting and the argument for blipping the throttle instead of feathering the clutch was 'it might cost more money'. Some people prefer rev matching but I found using the clutch more natural. My dad never taught me otherwise (ex-250 racer) so it became the way to do it. I wonder about the wear and tear really costing more, it's not like sitting up hill at traffic lights for four minutes burning the clutch out.
@dayleclarke4433
@dayleclarke4433 8 лет назад
+Richard Mazur you slip the clutch with each downshift. Watch some pre-2010(maybe later but better safe than sorry) Rossi and you'll see him do it every corner. Even with the slipper clutch and better electronics.

As a matter of fact my first race bike not only had reverse shifting it was also on the RIGHT side of the motorcycle (as were Spanish bikes on the right too albeit with conventional shift direction) down for up was common with early british bikes. I actually preferrec pressing down to shift up as in racing it is easier/faster more critical to get right accelerating where as downshifting you are slowing anyway.so less of the panick...I have always hated that nuetral is between gears it seems stupid (I mean we have a CLUTCH to work with so WTF?? WHY place it between gears???? I personally would prefer the moto gp method with the special lever for nuetral clicking all the way up to nuetral and clicking down to upshift Btw my british race bike ALSO had a cassete gearbox that could be removed in minutes without removing the engine or splitting the cases....even though I never needed to as that tranny was bullet proof and shited perfectly unlike my first bike a Yamaha that I blew 3 gear on multiple times and shifted like crap compared to my AJS

you dont use front brake coming into corners because you'll load up the front suspension then the bike will jerk back on the rear suspension. when you brake you use the front and rear brake to slow then trail the back brake off when you are at the correct speed and gear

@Jamie dyer, that's not correct. You use the rear break maybe at some time to stabilize the bike other than that front brake only.

BUt I like a rider who can win without slipper clutch, without abs, without any help of any electronics. in that way we can fucus on the riders ability to ride. :)

GP bikes don't have ABS. Quick shift up is no problem but downshifting is an art and should come back. Used to love watching Rossi feather the clutch most of the time instead of rev match.

+Leandro Daminelli you should watch fastest (motogp documentary). the battle between Vale and Jorge at catalunya, they shot when Vale use the clutch when down shifting.

Nobody should be fooled into thinking MotoGP bikes are easy to ride either. It's just a myth by dumb journalists trying to sell stories. Yeah, I don't like clutchless downshifting but it doesn't make the bikes any easier to ride. They now have a higher limit because they have higher corner entry speed. They are, and always have been, the most difficult bikes in the world to ride. That's why only three guys have been able to win regularly for the last few years.
