Man, if you tried to start an older ducati (like the 916) like that, you fry the regulator(?) for the starter motor. basically get like 2 attempts and then you gotta walk away for a few minutes before trying again.
The problem is the battery. If you leave it sitting too long it will not start. Same exact thing happened to my 959 and i had to get a jumper pack to start it once plugged in it started right up.
