Oh dear, Warren. As you may know, I became a fan of this channel many months ago, but that was then, and this is now. BTW: What happened to the Marshall Reflector? Back to the 5-in-1. This might sound a bit harsh, but you know I wouldn't comment if I didn't care. "Photography College" is beginning to feel like a lot of artistic license was used in that moniker. Gone - Why I took this shot? Gone - why I choose this gear. Gone - why I choose this size modifier, strobe, reflector size. Gone - a new concept (left with the same girl, less clothing, bike between her legs shot, but no unique views - (i.e. her face reflected in the side mirror). Gone - the creativeness used in the pop-up flash video. Found - failure to maintain a horizon. Found - distracting elements bisecting the model. Found - lack of technique of lowering the camera to near the ground and just shooting - I suppose relying on flash duration to prevent camera shake. I have just a few things for you to consider. 1. The photos in the opening of your "Using Grids" video were really nice. You discussed using grids, in the right way, even outdoors - but never got there. Future videos could take a few of those intro shots and break them down and recreate them. I'd be all in - especially if you taught us your thoughts behind why you did what you did. 2. If you watch this video from a beginner perspective, what did you learn? How did the College instruction help further a students ability to take meaningful photographs? I can have students watch me dance for hours, but they will learn very little - both about how I do what I do and why I do it that way. At that point, rather than education, this has become entertainment - and I'm not here for that.
Thanks for your comments Dance. I'm not just here to educate people. I hope that people enjoy my videos but, surprisingly, I can't please all of the people all of the time. I'm an old photographer who is new to this you tube game. I will take your suggestions on board (and I appreciate you taking the time) but, ultimately, I will post what I think most people are interested in and what interests me.
