Motorcycle Camping for Beginers! 

Having Camped with you many times, I've always been impressed in how quickly and easily you set up and in the morning pack up. Your system works well, Your pannier bags and duffle bag are always neatly packed and help keep the bike balanced when fully loaded. Not a Kitchen sink in sight, just the bare essentials.

In a pinch here's what you do for a camp shower. Boil a bunch of water, dip a third of your towel in it, swing the towel around a few times to cool it off a bit then use it to wipe yourself down. Worth it going to sleep with clean feet at least.

Some ppl like them some don’t but if you’re able to sleep in a hammock it can be a life saver. Extremely compact and if you have a tarp over it you can usually fit your bike under it too!

Thanks for the info. I love your suggestions, I have most of the same choices, but I am going to slightly improve some of my choices. I also take fishing equipment to fish here in NE Indiana. I'm getting a Tangkula 5-in-1 Tent Cot, Camping Tent Combo, to keep us off the ground, because we don't need poisonous snakes or spiders crawling into our sleeping bags with us. Behind my 900cc Kawasaki Vulcan Trike, I tow a Pull Behind Motorcycle Cargo Trailer, 16.6 Cu.Ft. Storage, 600-Lb. Load Capacity, with a cooler storage rack on the front, I freeze 2 one-gallon milk jugs with water in them, to keep my cooler cool, when they melt I have ice water. I never drink the water from the cooler, since it has contained some fish that I caught.

Excellent video Mark. I think the chair is a luxury but I take one anyway. One other thing I take are some very compact shoes. I hate sitting around at camp in full motocross boots.

Hello Mark; Thanks this is a great easy way to start Adv Bike Camping, simple and not expensive. David...Adelaide..Tiger 900GT & Scrambler.

Tarp + hammock = tent + sleeping mat + chair. When winter camping at the Cold Kiwi Motorcycle Rally, I used to use a 3-person dome tent - enough room for me to sleep and to store my riding gear without ending up snuggled up against a cold, wet riding jacket all night.

Great video and list of items! All the items sound very practical even when going camping in Florida!

One big flaw you need booze a nice red after you eat maybe 2 then you sleep no drama. Cheers

G'Day Mark, another helpful video, not only for first time campers, we can all learn new things, the only extra thing I would add is the ceramic disc for the gas stove, otherwise it will burn your soup as the heat isn't spread over a bigger area.

In Scotland I’d leave the water at home, it’s everywhere here for free. Usually falling out the sky. Even on the one weekend in August we laughingly call summer 😂. Use the extra space for some proper food, and a beer or three, obviously. 👍

Great video. Similar to how u pack. I pack and make my list in 20 minutes. Start with shelter, bedding matches water food. Anything else is less important so I don't stress over what I may have forgotten. Maybe get a thrill thinking if I did forget something I'll have to improvise

Been mountain climbing since 1990, switched to camping off the motorcycle. Loved the video and ideas, the towel trip on the tent is a great idea. Because I’m not packing everything on my back, a camp cot is great. Thermarest makes a great one, also agree on the camp chair. Lastly……..not just any toilet paper make it 2 ply.

Oh man! You talking about camping has me eager to get back out there! 2 more things to add to your kit. Hand sanitizer or soap and my favorite addition to just about any kind of travel, a stainless steel double-wall cup.

Check out trash compactor bags for keeping your gear dry if your duffle is not waterproof. Much thicker than regular trash bags. Roll the top and secure with a little duct tape. Great videos. Keep it up.

The chair is my most important piece of equipment :) I usually carry a simple cook kit, but I have gone without. If a I’m traveling everyday, I’ve done it comfortably by picking up a sandwich and a beverage at the end of the day, and getting on the road for an hour before the coffee/breakfast stop. I did lose 14 lbs in a month long trip to Alaska, so if you cannot afford to lose any weight, plan to carry more food, snacks, and cooking equipment :) I also carry a Swiss Army knife, but you’ve pretty much got everything else I use. The less stuff the better :)

Good stuff, i would replace bog paper with wet wipes, you can clean yourself if no washroom available, plus cleans your hands if you work on the bike. Edit, i see you mentioned that.

I've camped for years on a CB250. Panniers and a tail bag. A dry sack strapped above that to stuff the sleep bag. I roll a foam pad with my tiny tent inside and strap that to my forks. My tent is a 2x1 meter dome I bought at the hardware store on clearance for $5 (30 was full price). Toilet items and a few extra things in a tank bag. It works for me and I hate riding with backpacks. Glad to see you returned the CB250 to a clean look scrambler instead of the Outback Rat Ride you converted it to

New subscriber. I am just getting geared up for this, but from Canada. I think I have to pack a bit heavier in the wardrobe department and maybe lighter in the water department, but otherwise good stuff!! I also need to pack bear spray. 😞

Your really growing on me mate! I got a similar setup but with a hammock and tarp. May I suggest Light weight shoes, I carry crocs, Incase you need/want to walk👍

if you're packing panniers, include a basic tool kit and a couple tubes for the bike. apart from that, you have everything you need right there. nothing more and nothing less.

Here on Vancouver Island we carry one extra item. A 12 gauge shotgun when possible. You become part of the food chain when pushed back into the hills.

Great video! I like how you've broken everything down into categories. Here are some thoughts that I had while reading your list... - Don't forget a can opener if your can doesn't have a tab. - Camp shoes. Unless you really like whatever footwear you ride in, it's really nice to get out of them at the end of the day and a cheap pair of thongs (flip flops) does the trick. - Swim shorts. Same goes with riding pants which can be hot and uncomfortable depending on the weather. Including a pair of thin shorts with your socks and underwear doesn't add much bulk to your wardrobe kit and gives you some options. - Likewise, I always take a thin merino wool base layer. It adds warm in cooler weather but makes for good sleepwear in any season. - I like that you added some soap to your Bathroom kit but I would go a bit further and add some biodegradable dish soap as well to help with clean up after dinner. 'Camp Soap' can be used for both depending on the brand. - It should be noted that dehydrated meals are another option rather than a big heavy can of food. Just boil water. - I like your twig stove idea but regulating temperature is one of the biggest challenges when camp cooking so noobs should consider a fuel-powered stove of some sort. I love my JetBoil! - For me, part of camping is cooking (or at least reheating) but if you want to simplify it even more, skip all the kitchen stuff and just pack a sandwich. - Speaking of water, it depends on where you're going but paid campsites often have potable water access nearby so all you need is something in which to transport it. I like your water can idea but a simple water bottle works as well. For longer trips next to natural sources, a water filtration system is essential. - Lastly, I usually bring a belt knife. It can be used in the kitchen or by the campfire.

I'd also take a hat with a brim on it for a head bug net to rest on and my favorite for getting the fire going, a telescopic blowpipe.

All good ideas. I carry a bit more. I have a micro fibre robe which is also my towel and what I wear in my sleeping bag for extra warmth. It also means a trip to the toilet means people don't have the unwelcome sight of a middle aged bloke in his underpants on a campsite. It also means I can put off putting on my MX boots and knee braces and have my breakfast in my robe. A pair of thin soled shoes is a must for me along with a pair of zip off trouser/short things. You bloody Aussies don't have to worry too much about the cold but for us Europeans and Northern Yanks and Canadians, I'd stow in a set of merino long John's, a long vest and a beanie hat. This set up has done me well from Arctic Finland (in the summer, I'm not an idiot) to the Moroccan Sahara and many points in between. My kit always comes in at under 20kg, including tools and inner tubes.

Depending on where you go I would bring some rugged plastic bags or so for waste and used toilet paper, and a knife or multitool - I use mine all the time.

Do a video on how to strap stuff that won't fit in the case to a rack sececurely. How can I be confident my tent won't fall off the bike?

Isn't it the same as any other camping? I have backpacked, motorcycle camped and car camped and it is basically all the same. The only distinction you can make would be the size and weight of gear for each type of camping. Which is common sense and if you have to explain that then they should probably stay in the city.
