It's nice to hear you say "do whatever is comfortable for you." I've taught some people to ride and I've seen others teach. Nothing is worse than someone trying to make an inexperienced rider do things THEIR way. If it works for them, it's safe, and they're comfortable with a different method, let them use that method! Practice is ongoing no matter how long you have ridden. The more pratice the better you become at slow speed maneuvering. Glad to see you helping your Mom practice. Everyone is scared at first about dropping there bike when first learning. She will become a pro in no time

Your Mom's a riot and so glad you practice and pratice at safe places. Starting on an incline is no different than on the level. Just a bit more throttle, let the clutch out like normal and let off the front or rear brake when you feel the bike want to move forward. It's that simple. You could actually practice on the level by starting up using either brake. Keep in mind the brake is holding you in place so you don't have to slip the clutch to stay in place waiting for the light to change. You got this,,, fun video.

I admire you spending time working with her on things she feels less than confident about. Please take every opportunity to ride with your mom. I always wanted to ride with my dad and unfortunately it is too late now. I am liking the content. Oh and tip for your mom, don't be afraid to lean that bike. We all lay one down at some point, that's the best teacher of all.

Buy a tube of bright tennis balls and cut them in half, you can use them as 6 cones. You don't have to keep them in the tube, if you don't have space in your saddle bags. Thanks for the video! Your mom rocks, and I love it when you see a dog! I wonder if I sound like that. Lol

Mom did a great job. She may want to start letting the clutch out a little and get into the friction zone and hold the bike there then give some gas and let the clutch out. but she did great.

God, she lost the plot when she found me riding at 13, and I'm sure she even worries these days, though the last time I was able to ride was a few lifetimes ago. Happy Mother’s Day to your mom and many more to come. Practicing slow speed maneuvers and hill starts is always good. I use to have a lot of trouble with tight right turns from stop. I still practice when I can. Only suggestion I’d make for those weaving exercises is pick up your speed a bit, apply a bit of pressure on the back brake and lean the bike. When I started going this, leaning felt really weird, almost like it was going to fall, but eventually, I got the hang of it, makes for tighter and accurate turns. Good bonding time , I'm 61 now ,35 odd years ago I took my mum out on my Harley 😀 she was a bad ass in her day ,she used to drive 10 tonne lorry's in the wraf ( woman's, Royal,air force ) . No power steering back then 💕

Hi :) just wanted to say that you are truly inspiring, super laid back and I’m so happy I came across your page a few weeks ago! I bought my first motorcycle yesterday, and today I rode for the very first time. It was the best Mother’s Day! (To be fair, this is only my second Mother’s Day ever lol). I have only ever ridden a dirt bike, once about 4 years ago. Thanks for being so chill and open about your experience riding, it gave me the courage to finally get a motorcycle after 8 years of wanting to ride :)

I think a Slow Race is great practice for nervous people. A Slow Race is all about trusting your balance and clutch control. If they fall over it’s no big deal cause they’re barely moving.

An absolute wealth of GOOD PROPER riding information. Don't even have to buy his stuff (I bought it all). He has enough free youtube videos you can learn all the proper techniques to slow speed maneuvers. If he can teach a 4'11" 100 lb girl how to take a 950lb harley and weave it from scraping one floorboard to the other there's absolutely no denying his system works.

I'm a ''little into myself''? I have over a thousand free video's on youtube and have taught 100's of thousands of riders around the world the proper techniques and I'm into myself? Is it possible you actually mean to say, I'm not PC? If so, you are correct. @@jeffshultz3883 You'll never see Motorman bloopers because I don't make mistakes. I have hundreds of hours of training and practice in the techniques I teach. And this ain't rocket science. I'm not magical or gifted. If you had the same training and practice hours I have, you wouldn't make any bloopers either. But don't misunderstand, if I'm presented with an exercise I've never tried before in a police rodeo, It would take me a few tries to get it perfect. That's why police rodeo's have two practice days before the competition starts. Knowing and learning how to ride well first most people can go good in a straight line but u need more practice than that!!!!! I went out a ride my bike for the first time today! I stayed in first gear and just practiced taking off and stoping and turning. But it’s definitely a start, thank you for helping me work up the courage to do so!

The safest way to do hill-start is with rear brake you have more throttle control and you can drag the rear brake a little. If you feel unbalanced when coming to a stop or are stopped with both feet on the ground push forward on the left side of your handlebars (this unstable the bike and it wants to lean to the left and since you have your left for on the ground your in control) a little and lift your right foot on to your peg and push the rear brake. It's like your counter steering but not moving. Try it out it feels much safer this way.

You're Mom did pretty well. As you said it's harder when someone is with you and watching. I have no good advise for her except practice, practice, practice. She should use the front brake more though. Im afraid she my lose balance without both feet on the ground and tip either left or right. Practice the friction zone on the level then try the hills. But she did well considering we were all watching.

I had to practice this kind of stuff all over again when I got my DCT Goldwing. Hill starts are cake but it's the slow speed parking lot stuff which needed some re-learning.
