I live out in the rural parts of WI. I wave to all Two Wheels, atv/utv, and Amish buggies. I clutch in while passing Amish to avoid scaring the horses and always let the truckers know if cops are ahead.
It's hard to keep your composure when your life is on the line and somebody cuts you off or whatever. love that u are preaching to stay calm and not kick anyone's mirror off. it's hard not to react that way but it's the worst way to react.
Don't ride besides anyone, I believe that is one the. the reasons Moto Tanya got clipped and thrown into oncoming traffic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9KD0ci6iMMc.html
As a long-time rider, I'd like to add one more: Don't go up and down in front of people's homes doing wheelies. It disturbs people's peace and quiet, and is disrespectful. Otherwise, fantastic video! Cheers, Q
Lane Sharing is accepted in California, because we Lane Split so we're ok with passing each other without factor. I even have cops pass in the same lane, we don't wait for permission, but we are cautious. I use my signal at night and slide over, so a motorcycle can pass.
What about people who travel alone via motorcycle. Itchy Boots travels the world on a motorcycle all alone through vast areas without a single person in sight. She did fall and broke her collar bone recently in East Africa in a remote region. But luck was on her side when a van carrying a few doctors came upon her after about 20 mins. She and her motorcycle were saved.
I was alone when I fell off-road and broke my collarbone, luckily I was able to ride myself to the hospital. I would hate to be out in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country and get injured while riding alone. She was extremely lucky, God was looking out for her. A broken collar bone is a common motorcycle injury, very painful.
Funny enough it's usually the set in their ways old timers on Harleys that break the cardinal rule of the wave. Just because they see you on a sportbike or a supermoto. That said just the other day a Harley rider he didn't wave when I did and I though oh cuz I'm out being a hooligan on my Grom he didn't wave. Then he turned around and caught me at a light and apologized even though he was still on his phone call with his wife and you know he didn't have to do that but that's a 1st class move. Even when I could hear his wife chastising him saying "If we were 2 up she'd smack his helmet for not waving back" That killed me and I told him don't ever lose her. 😂
I see a lot of responses about signaling another bike to pass that I don't need to give another rider permission to pass. It is to let the other rider you are aware of him and make sure he has the room to get by without going into the other lane. Also Harley guys not waving. When I had my big Guzzi cruiser which could be mistaken for a Harley from a distance some Harley riders would start to wave and when they got closer would jerk their hands back in. This would happen more often you would think, cracked me up every time. 😂
I am 54. I have been riding all my life. The old rules I follow are the one in the motorcycle driving manual. All of these others ones, nope. I don't care. If I did. I would have a head full of gray hair. I go do my own thing. If it offends you. I don't care. You're all nuts. Rules for riding a motorcycle outside the driving laws. Really.
These courtesies he’s sharing are basically the “golden rule”. If you would rather be an ahole s.o.b., like the rest of life, it’s your choice to live like that. Just don’t complain when the day comes you need help from others. That day comes for us all.
I think the "ask to pass" thing is strictly American. I have never seen a harley rider get offended that sports bikes overtake them at 120mph, everyone here is super respectful and mindful of the other and is just glad that they are on their bike dude. I have never felt any exclusion among bikers, judging each other based on what brand/style of bike the other is riding is not something we do here. Everyone is welcomed in any group ride, everyone is part of the same community here - naked, sports, enduro, sumo, harley, adv ... you name it. I dont get the "pay respect to pass" thing...
I've never waited until someone waved me past. If you are going slow I will eventually pass you. I've also never cared if I was taking it slow and someone went around me. So that isn't typical in the part of America where I live at least. The only time someone might get mad is if you pass them in a no passing zone, which I wouldn't do anyway.
It's pickup truck drivers that I've had problems with. I've had more than a few position their trucks over or to the left of the dotted line in order to prevent passing. And it's common for them to absolutely floor the throttle when you're inching up to them at the end of a turn. They'll go 90 mph to stop the pass.
@@langhamp8912 Its time for a liter bike! or some kind of twin with more instant torque on tap. You don't live in Texas do you? If you do I feel for you bro. I've driven through there and that rings a bell for sure.
When I'm behind a motorcycle rider in my car. I always give the rider an extra car length ahead of me for stopping or anything else. Just shows them, I'm not trying to run up their ass! I was on my crotch rocket motorcycle, and a guy in a van going the opposite direction flipped me the middle finger for no reason. I thought about going to ask, "Why for?" But, I remembered he's in a tank compared to me lol.
I do that too but what ends up happening is some goofball car or truck will just slot into that space and now they are tailgating the bike. You have to get the distance just right or you do more harm than good. Just include looking far ahead in your scans so there are no surprises whether you're in a car or bike.
Another great vid man, would you be interested in doing a vid on dealing with deer and wildlife jumping out of nowhere crossing the road, i know ive had my share of close calls with that one😅 peace!!
Thanks! I did do a video on how to avoid deer: youtu.be/MpEfII-omA One of the big reasons to avoid riding at night (drunks are the biggest reason to avoid riding at night.) A lot of nocturnal animals like to run across the street at night.
As friendly as Texans are you are right. I'm on a Wing and I wave at everyone. Hell I wave at scooters. But most of the HD guys just stay locked in and look straight ahead. Wonder how high and mighty they feel now that they're riding a wokemobile.
I ride in the woods alone. I grew up doing it, and I will forever do it. But at least now that I’m older, I carry emergency satellite devices. As a matter of fact I’m getting a new iPhone 14 this week, just for riding in the woods, because you don’t have to pay a subscription or service fee anymore with the new iPhones that are satellite compatible. iPhones 14 and 15, ios17 are greater. How don’t know how Garmin feels about that, but, lol, it is what it is.
What is up with parking on the sidewalks by store entrances? I would be scared after parking some little kid would touch the bikes hot exhaust walking by it
Did your parents teach you not touch things that don't belong to you? A kick stand can melt into hot asphalt. Other drivers see what looks to be like an open parking spot and fist f*cks their way into the spot without looking farther and absolutely rams the bike. A bike parked up against the building with active walking traffic is less likely to get stollen People complain that a single bike takes up a whole spot. So if we're going to piss off someone regardless, we might as well park closest to the building. I'll definitely do this or make a spot if the parking lot is pretty full to allow cars the needed space.
@smoke05s That is quite literally store manager on shift specific. Most don't care. Lol, but for Walmart, I just park on the yellow lines in front of the doors up against the yellow poles, so I'm not blocking anyone's path. Under 15 minutes, and we're gone. It allows me to walk by the doors and see my bike. Oh, and the stripe lines on private property don't mean illegal to park. It's literally just to fill in spaces that are too small for a car to park there.
I agree riding off road in the forest/swamp/mountains can be dangerous. I would suggest an emergency transponder (to a satellite), cellphone, and letting others know where you are riding is a way to reduce the risk
I don't wait for permission to pass another rider. If I'm making time and you're not, you will be passed. If that offends you, you have issues. Besides, most Harley are too arrogant to 'let' anyone pass.
When coming to a stop sign or traffic light leave 12 to 15 feet from you and the vehicle in front of you just in case the driver behind you isn’t paying attention. You don’t want to get sandwiched between 2 vehicles. I also favor one side when at a stop sign or light so I know where my best escape route is just in case.
I can live with all of the rules accept the passing. If you riding slow and I do a legal pass that should not be an issue and if someone takes issue with then screw them!
If there's not a lot of traffic, I'll wave or perhaps give a nod. If there's some light traffic, there's no way in hell I'm going to look to see if the other rider is waving back. That's about one of the best ways imaginable to get yourself wrecked.
Don't let someone ride on back of your bike without full gear. It's bad enough risking turning yourself into road pizza. You definitely don't want to do it to someone else. It may be their choice, but it's your conscience.
Good video lots of good tips for everybody to either learn or refresh their memory. I got one never ride tired. Especially like getting off work at the end of the day and then getting into heavy traffic going through a city like where I’m at in Nashville. It’s just really dangerous.
That is another good tip. Definitely don't ride tired, that can set you up for a real f'kd up day! You have to be 110% alert and sharp out here on the streets when on a motorcycle.
You guys should have joined a biker club if you want too follow a bunch of bs un written rules 😂😂 id much prefer it if you rookies kept yah hand on the bars ....your all welcome to pass me when you feel comfortable not when i feel comfortable ❤ i already know you there ive known you where there since the second you came in to view of my mirror You dont have to make bikes ur entire personality guys just ride have fun and be safe dont let these kids who are brand new to riding influence you to ride differently....majority of the riders who care about all these little stupid rules HAVE VERY LITTLE TALENT ON A BIKE
The only two real rules that you covered are don't touch another persons bike without permission and don't just ride up next to another bike while in motion. You don't know their skill level and he doesn't know yours and you just cut off one of their escape paths. If you ride up next to another biker at a stop, you better acknowledge them immediately with an up visor and nod or wave or a complement. Just doing that and ignoring them is really rude, particularly if you take off passed them afterwards without asking to do so, cause you are inside their lane and safety bubble. While it is nice, I do not expect anyone to wave or wave back. I do it out of my own respect and admiration for other riders. You have know idea if they are even paying attention to you or are more focused on something else, like a potential threat that they notice or are doing a moto blog, acting all weird with their hands and motions, like WTF was that dude doing/ LOL! I don't see how riding in the middle of your lane would be disrespectful. I do it all the time, just not at busy intersections and not in a fresh rain. Riding in the middle allows for lots of clearance on both sides of you, allowing you to react quickly to anything from any direction. Each of the 3 sub-lanes of motorcycles have their strengths and weakness depending upon traffic and road conditions. You will learn that as you go. Just know that the middle lane is called the oil or slick lane, for obvious reasons, particularly at intersections and slow moving city streets. As any good gentleman would behave, never expect anything in return. As an honorable and integral man, you focus on your own manners and not someone else's. Cheers!
I live in Daytona. We generally don't wave at other riders out here because it would be ridiculous. All year, but particularly certain times of the year, there are so many other bikes that your left hand would never be on the handlebar.
I have a harley and gsxr 1000, i respect everyone on 2s and ill wave because im acknowledging their existence...no need to be an ass to anyone because we all are out enjoying ourselves. However, ive had some guys on sportbikes blow by me and theyll actually put their hand out to acknowledge me and let me know theyre not trying to be disrespectful. So i understand both sides of the coin. Typically when im on the gsxr ill make sure i dont blow by anyone because i dont want to scare someone so bad that they crash.
I own a 7k 750 Suzuki and a 2013 jeep it seems like I’m constantly given the peace sign ✌️🇺🇸 I don’t mind it is the life that I chose.. going super fast or climbing some mountain.. either way, I’m living my best life ✌️
Liked your video, and since I appreciate your trying to educate us I'm going to help your youtube with a long comment. Agree with almost everything in it. Three exceptions: 1. I don't need your permission to pass you and I'm not arrogant enough to think you should stay behind me until you have my permission. It's a very small world you live in where that is the case. To a lot of riders (some who've been riding for decades), they just don't know WTF your doing - giving Your Grace's permission. If you want to ride the higway at 100 and I'm doing 50, you pass me, and vise versa, no problem, no hard feelings. That's what's expected by most people I've known. 2. I've caught myself not waving; my mind was busy eleswhere, paying attention to some hazard. Normally I wave. I went riding with a new rider and noticed he didn't seem to be waving and mentioned it to him. He just didn't want to risk taking his hand off the handlebars and when he did he didn't move it too far. Caught in the middle of a shift, making a turn in a bumpy corner. Best to assume riders mean nothing by not waving (there's a few who feel like they are not ;your brother and so don't wave. Some may mean something by it, but they are the minority. BTW don't bother waving at a buck-sixty either, not a good idea to stick your hand out there in the wind and off the bars at high speed. 3. Riding in the woods, solo canoeing days from civilization, heck even hiking in the woods is dangerous. Some people like to live dangerously. Up to you to accept that risk - or not. Oh, and having broken my collar bone (and many other bones), I say you must be pretty unfamiliar with pain; it ain't that bad. 😁
I seen a video of a rider that went to the passenger mirror and just gently folded the mirror in instead of breaking it and the the person in the car just laid on their horn getting mad as the rider rode away
I try to wave to everybody, the times I don't its usually because I'm slowing down and down shifting or I'm trying to up shift. In those cases I try to nod but im not sure if they see it or not.
Harley riders can't control their bikes without 2 hands. That's my theory. I hardly EVER see a harley rider without two hands on their bike at all times. (this is sarcasm)
Personally, I often ride one handed on other bikes but I find my Harley more comfortable with both hands on the bars, don't know if it's because it has mini apes but it feels weird riding one handed
@@CycleCruza dang commies lol. Finally got my Ninja 500 as a first bike back in April this year. I still remember being in high school watching your videos dreaming for the day. Thanks cruza 👍🏼
Here’s you telling us all the rules whilst breaking numerous laws by doing wheelies on the road and passing on the solid yellow line. You have no respect for other drivers and you have no respect for yourself.
@@breal3023 so you better not screw up. It isn't disrespectful if both are willingly riding bar to bar. We have been riding like this for a long time. There are rules riding bar to bar, especially in a large group.
