Lemmy and Motorhead are the forever loudest 3 piece rock and roll band in the world, The live album Everything Louder than Everyone Else is thier best one, raw, loud, in youre face good old fashioned Rock and Roll played at a zillion hours. the career the band had was immense, there wasnt a band more on stage in a year then them, they were always nice to fans, bands and roadies, name a band that made a song for their own roadcrew. On 28 December 2015 Lemmy passed away, and Motorhead passed away with it he sure didnt lived forever. but he lived alot longer then most would have givin him. rock on Lemmy, and dont forget when it thunders you can bet on it Lemmy is rocking the house above you with his murder one amp, and his modified Rickenbacker bass.
Please do check out No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith if you already haven't it or own it. It is practically speaking a live - best of from the Lemmy - Fast Eddie Clarke - Animal Taylor when they were on the top of their game and abilities. It was deservedly # 1 album in the UK and big everywhere in Europe.
The thing most people seem to miss when they try to sing like Lemmy is they think his got this deep growly voice and they end up singing an octave to low. Obviously a lot of people just can't handle pushing their voice like he did and they just sing in a range they're comfortable in. But Lemmys voice had some wierd over/undertones in it, kind of making it sound high and low at the same time. In his later days he also recorded octave tracks on a lot of songs. Just listen to the ending of "All Gone To Hell"
This was great. Lemmy was unique in so many respects, bass playing , vocals and songwriting. In terms of the vocals, if you listen to any of the live recordings of Motorhead, Lemmy was very consistent in his vocals and delivery with no or little effects on the sound board. You have to listen the different years and the live tapes from the soundboard are really good. My take is that Lemmy may not have had a wide range but his power and melodies he wrote for the songs had a kick to it.
I love Lemmy he's actually from a town called Burslem in the city of Stoke on Trent which is the same place I live! When you hear him talk you can really hear his Stoke accent!
Ken you have so many good points about the songs that you are doing, and the way you put it, so even people without a huge knowledge about recording and all that other stuff can still get it. And the shirts you are wearing in your videos, they are so awesome, always a nice shirt with the colors and motives :)
I never thought I would see Lemmy here! He's a great songwriter. Mama I'm Coming Home. I Ain't No Nice Guy. I think it's his personality that really shines through. His mind and his attitude. When I listen to him talking in interviews I can just hear all the cigarettes. When he laughs. That wheezing sound. All the fluid in his lungs. I can't help but thinking that I would still love Lemmy if he hadn't ever smoked a cigarette.
Hey Ken! Lemmy's voice always reminded me of a guy that has been drinking and smoking non-stop for a month. Lol! The angels definitely know when Lemmy is on the pearly stage.😎
Raw unadulterated music. Lemmy not a great singer but a straight forward classic cut from his own cloth. The best part about Lemmy’s voice is that no one could ever tell if he had an off night. Great live! Pure Marshall Stack power!
might just be me, but it sounds like the "Mickey Mouse" bit, especially, is pitch shifted. Not actually him singing higher. So maybe the tape was sped up during the recording as in the 70s they obviously didn't have Plugins or automation stuff we have today
Lemmy was the personification of rock n' roll. Obviously not much of a singer in proper terms, but still, how many people are walking around that are truly cooler than he was.
this track is possibly responsible for the partial deafness in my left ear !! I used to lie on the floor with my head between the speakers and play this at full volume (whenever my mother was out lol !) Great review.
"Who'd win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God? Trick question; Lemmy is God." - Airheads, 1994 Lemmy and Motorhead were amongst the best of all time and it says a lot that Motorhead never even considered replacing Lemmy, they instead retired the band name. “Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many.” - Mikkey Dee, Motorhead drummer.
He was a lot younger in those days for the recording, and he did have to scream for the sound to be picked up in those days, since they couldn't afford mics, I'd love to see you do a video on John Entwistles voice for songs such as "Boris the Spider" and "My Wife"
The pitch change is editing magic. wink. Lemmys vocs were a trick. I know it and I aint tellen. This here flicker show is poopallicamaximous. I fart in your general direction.
Cool series. There really are vocals that sounded heavy with the band. Lemmy's singing sounded dangerous to the cords. Like the vocal production. Copying the main vocal and lowering to an octave with a subtle reverb and delay. Making the sound heavier. Thanks a lot sir Ken.
Saw Motorhead early 80's at a rinky-dink neighborhood hockey rink in Vancouver, Canada. Maybe about 3-4 thousand people. I'd never heard of them. I was there for the backup band, Ozzie! First tour with Randy Rhoads! Enjoyed Motorhead too...was fun watching Lenny pound back an entire bottle of JD by song 10 or so, lol.
Love how you show and explain the differences. I'm not naturally in tune with musical nuances as I am very declined in the department; however, I find it very intriguing. Thank you. Motörhead has always (in my opinion) been extremely impressive. Lemmy was one of the best... still is.
For me this is one of the great metal songs of all time! I also hope, as a huge metal head, you do a follow up for the three metal god vocalist all in a row! I already suggested either Where Eagles Dare or Flight of Icarus for Bruce and Stargazer for Dio, but if you do another for Halford I can't help feeling like Dreamer Deceiver or Blood Red Skies might really be just awesome to break down!
remix was super solid dude. personally i would of dropped the cents back a bit on the doubler as the second sample was a bit to low and gives that demonic secondary sound which isnt in a lot of lemmy vocal, drawing that back about a cent or two would of made it spot on. btw with the eq, that sounds amazing.. did you run more then one low pass on it?
I don’t think this is the original 1979 version. There are some vocal tracks from him on RU-vid, he sounds older here, and when you add the track, it’s not the same as the original. This might be from a re-recording
Can we get ken up to 1 million subscribers by june only 50k to go perfect for the start of summer, hes got a lot of cool stuff coming soon dont miss out
Hi Ken!! Just a quick note: This vocal track you showed is full of Pitch Problems/digital bugs. Lemmy Never raised the pitch during this song. This song is in E Flat, and he always keep the F sharp (G flat) note on it. But anyway, the audio is extremely funny, despite bizarr at the same time hahahah! Bests, Mauro.
I actually really like to sing motorhead songs. Well I do it very different then Lemmy did. I am working my false chords really hard, but it sounds amazing. Now the question is will it cause problems on my false chords and throat, I dunno, but probably does.
AND THIS GUY WAS SINGNED !!!!! Omg. this is horrible .. thank God he has a lot of noise in the background !!!! Thanks ken because i always compare my singing to the studio version and this just gave me a lot of hope !!
Just curious, have any of your isolated vocal content videos been demonetized or blocked? I love them but know you probably do not make any money on them. Keep up the good work though.
It is amazing how much energy is missing without the band. His voice squeaks and squawks. Just like his bass guitar was cranked to 11 (and sounded like a tightly strung rubber band), his voice was also cranked up to 11! He just didn’t give a f-k! He laid it out there. If you didn’t like it, f-k off! I will always love the rawness of his voice!
I stumbled on to video, or actually two videos featuring T-Pain singing without the autotuner. He is known for using the autotuner to the extreme or actually part of his style. One of the videos is with pianist / tuber Kurt Hugo Schneider and the other is "NPR Tiny Desk Concert". Please do a video on them. At least I was truly surprised.
@@kentamplin just my two cents..lol, have you ever done James Dewar or David Byron?....Or Otep?? or how about Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory, or Glen Hughes...ok I'll stop..lol
Ken, was curious as to your thoughts on The Weeknd and his new album After Hours. Haven’t seen you do a review of him. Just curious, thanks man. Love your stuff
Request: the chorus in Prokofiev's Battle On the Ice from Alexander Nevsky, the St. Petersburg Orchestra performance. All those voices, not too blended, dark, full of tension. 1930s metal. Your comments would be interesting.
Not that later , you had some grunt by Halford and few others, David C , even wilson pickett etc...before . Paul dianno . But in 1980 , you had also a band Called Venom that kind of designed root of much extreme metal , and godfather of black metal . Its much gnarly than Motorhead .
Love the production analysis side of this. While not technically great Lemmy and his band had the unsubtle rawness of a sledgehammer which cut through the bland music scene of the late seventies, especially in the UK. I remember they unsettled the snobbish British music media. It was great. I remember the DJs on BBC radio one got upset when they had to play on the breakfast shows. Lol
That's a great question for my free singing forum. It is a great community of singers, currently doing the KTVA method, chatting about all things related to voice. You can join the discussion by enrolling, it's free. Check it out!: forum.kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
