I’ve had lots of requests to show you all the gadgets and technology I use in the motorhome while living full time on the road. So! Here is that video 😀
This is pretty much everything gadget and tech wise I use on a regular basis, all of which are powered on the road from my solar system (solar video coming soon!).
The only things that aren’t included in this video is my solar/inverter system and a maxxair deluxe roof fan.

Tell 'em you're a student (give 'em an eMail address ending .ac.uk) and you can get the same deal for £16 a month. they don't check the eMail addy so I just made one up and it worked! I use mine in an unlocked EE mobile modem - works great and only a 12 month contract too!

That Bestek inverter looks great, wonder if it will run my small TV, save me buying a 12V TV or bigger Inverter. Might try the TV with my 12v adapter once I get my system set up in the van. Great tip on the DVD player power.

Glad you found the DVD rip helpful, errr I'm not sure if it would run your TV but I know that on Amazon there is a bigger 12v inverter that bestek do..I think it's 400w, that might be an option?

Hello mate. I appreciate you making these videos. I'm in the process of selling my house with a view to buying a motorhome and doing full-time touring. I have just taken out a Three (3) contract for £20 with unlimited data/minutes/texts and European roaming and am running it in an old iPhone to be used as my 4G connection. It works a treat on my iMac and I get about 20 MB/s which is more than enough. That was a decision I made after watching one of your videos, so cheers for that Darren.

I know this is an old video but I’ve just found your channel. That 200 watt inverter I saw in another video you plugged it in to a 12v aux socket. You might have already looked into this and I’m sorry if you already know. Please becareful with that most motor home aux sockets in the cabin are only rated to 10amps so that’s a maximum of 120 wats you run off it but to be safe I wouldn’t go over 100wats. I’m not sure where you bought that from but I would check it’s ce (kite) marked as I was sure they weren’t allowed to sell inverters over 150watts with an aux socket plug as the max current rating of any is only 15 amps. You probably have checked all this but i just wanted to make sure, if anything happened it would have been on my conscience if I had t spoken up.

Nice video of your gadgets.Of all the stuff you have there the one thing the wife likes is the Dyson vacuum.We have it in our house right now but it is going in the motorhome this summer.Expensive but it does a great job.

When you get 10 minutes in your pipeline, can you do a video about how you connect to the internet from your motorhome (aimed at absolute beginners)? It would be nice if you could do it before May as I'm off to Shetland and there won't be many free wifi spots on the hills or beaches.

It's amazing what you collect and thing is crucial and a necessary item. I'm just going through all my tech to try and cut out duplicates, like do I need a tablet if I can use my laptop? Do you every run out of 12v power? What's your battery setup and do you have solar to keep you topped up? Good video 👍🏻

Oh tell me about it John, I'm still trying to cut down and minimalize my life, I went through my tech cables and had FIVE 3-pin 240v usb plugs...what do i need them for in a motorhome haha its madness. 12v wise I have figured out how to get virtually everything to run/charge on it, apart from my laptop i do tend to use the big 2500w invert for that if im using it as im charging. Yeah I run everything off my solar system, 550w 300ah battery bank, longest ive been without plugging into shore power is 12 months and was only cos it was included! haha

Hi Darren, quick question, what inverter do you use? I have got a 120w solar panel on the roof attached to two 110 ah leisure battery’s. The good lady and I are about to purchase some e bikes so will need an inverter of about 5oow or more. I know some of these are thirsty to leisure battery’s . So question which inverter you recommend and the wattage. Running just laptop and something to charge the ebike batteries. Cheers bud

Never really understood dongles. I realise it connects laptop to internet, but surely laptop does that anyway, why does one need the sticky thing. If someone could answer I’d be very grateful. Lovely videos. Thank you

The dongle is for the actual internet signal( data signal). You put a card in that you get from a mobile phone company and it allows you to access the net via wifi .

Hi Alex mate, basically like Logotha said, it's the mobile version of a house modem, you pop a simcard in it (mines with 3 mobile) and then it connects to your laptop via wifi exactly the same as a house wifi or mcdonalds wifi, that dongle is the simply where the internet comes in and shares it to your devices. Good vid mate. Interested in the inverter. Got a motorhome for leisure purposes, don't have solar yet but want a way to run the sockets off the 12v leisure battery but not sure how. Don't want to plug into vehicle battery. Any ideas what my best plan would be? Hoping to add a panel this year at some point to recharge the battery so don't need to go on to sites. Just need to figure out how to draw the power for TV and fan heater when not hooked up.

@Mark Cooke Unfortunately not. I got the van end of last year and this year I plan to kit it out with solar hopefully so will get a proper inverter and split charge relay. Just not got around to doing it yet.

Fair point mate, forgot about my TV....shows how little i actually use the thing, I've got a tv/freeview ariel on the roof that came with the MH but I've only used it like 2 times! If i do use the TV I have a Google Chromecast plugged into the back for netflix and other stuff, but that's about it.

With plastic windows how much can you really do? You can have a safe but I'd need one that's massive which takes space and weight. Honestly if they break in to take it I'd rather the take the tech and run and leave the MH unharmed

Sorry, having an issue with comments being duplicated and I struggle to delete them sometimes, so if that happens, just ignore them! Re the Anker charge banks, do you charge them first and then use them as a source of power for other stuff? I don't really understand how they work. Ta

No worries I removed the duplicate 😀 Yeah that's exactly how they work you can charge them will the tradition 240v usb plug like you mobile phone one or via a12v cigarette lighter, the power in connector if micro usb and there are 2 standard usb power ports out to charge your phone or anything that can charge via usb really. The two big ones in the video are 20,000 mah (mili amp hours)typicallyy a smart phones battery is 3,000-4,000mah so you can see you will get a fair few charges out of it for your phone alone.

They are universal chargers, basically you can charge anything you can connect to with the connector tips within reason, there brilliant because you don't need to use that small inverter with even though small will have wasted energy, going from 12v to 240v to the laptop, these trust/hama ones don't kick up unnecessarily just to the voltage you need like 12, 15, 18, 20, 24 etc
