I think there's a sort satisfaction of manually paddling, I feel like going out onto the water more for a cruise, I'm not in a rush to get back onto land. ☺️

@@KayakDIY HAH! That's entirely fair. And I get being disappointed when you want to catch a glamour fish but land a cat. Funny, our local pond, the catfish are the only thing that's survived all along, so there's TIIINY little bluegills, some fingerling bass they put in recently after working hard to rehab water conditions, and these goddamn monster cats, so they're the big glamour catch here.

Only reason I don’t is I have caught catfish ever since I was a little kid. Saltwater cats are similar to the freshwater ones I grew up with in Iowa. Have pretty good practice on holding them. Now blue crabs still get the best of me and pinch me from time to time! Hurts like hell! 😆

Thanks for the video and the install of the adapter for the Bixpy. I was looking at installing this same setup on the Bodyglove 4 Man Crusader SUP which is kinda big. Curious if there's enough propulsion in your opinion from the motor to handle a larger SUP craft? Thanks!
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 4 года назад
It should be able to move the Crusader. The Crusader is really large, but still pretty lightweight compared to kayaks powered by Bixpy. Haven’t tested it though so no idea on speed. I’ve done 12ft 6in isup boards and hit speeds of 5-6mph, but those where long touring style inflatable sups. On heavy wide kayaks I have had lowest max speed of 3.2mph. I imagine 3mph+ would be achievable which is a comfortable paddling speed or more. I’m just basing this on tests I have done on a wide array of other crafts. I haven’t tested Bixpy on mega iSUPS. If you decide to buy a Bixpy consider buying through our channel link as it will help fund the channel. That is how I get the budget to test more products. 😊

Hey good video very helpful. I would only add that it appears in your video that the battery is not strapped down. I know they float and in canals and ponds where there are no wakes and no waves it’s probably fine but it does not take much chop to lose anything not tied down.
@KayakDIY

I guess after so many years on various crafts I’ve gotten overly confident. If I was offshore in choppy waters I would have likely thought more about strapping it down.

far77fae this is one of my most used and favorite paddle craft setups because it is lightweight and easy for me to take everywhere. Heck I can leave all of it in my vehicle and go out last minute without any planning. It is lightweight yet effective for nearly all fishing I do except really choppy offshore fishing. I might even do some scuba diving and spearfishing videos from them in the future. *Have you seen my recent inflatable paddleboard durability test video! I was shocked at what they could handle. Wow! Very good run times not having to push much weight compared to kayaks. I have been on the edge of getting one for my hobie. Do they seem reasonable for the cost and reliable?(bixpy)
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 5 лет назад
Very reliable and in my opinion excellent value. I love all the features and versatility it offers. The same motor is used in Bixpy’s handheld scuba swimjet for depths of 100ft. That yields reliability right there. My homemade trolling motor setup for Hobies wasn’t sealed that well. Most trolling motors aren’t sealed well and can let water down the shaft and into the motor components. Battery and remote float which is a nice feature. I haven’t had any issues with my Bixpy. Once you own one you are going to want other mounts and more crafts to try it on. It is a blast. I started with the swimjet then got the other mounts for kayaks and paddleboards. I love how lightweight it is. The paddleboard, motor, and battery weigh only 32lbs! In low speeds it is an excellent paddle assist. I also troll baits in low speeds and love it! The Bixpy wireless remote is so convenient because I can run it while standing unlike other motor companies such as Torqeedo. On Hobie I would probably do rear mount or rudder mount. That way I could have pedal and motor power at same time. lddy.no/6om5

Does the glue-on adapter only work with their brand of motors? or is the slit a standard size for other similar products in the market?
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 3 года назад
The glue on mount is simply a Standard fin box mount. You don’t need it for some inflatable boards. Some inflatable boards have removable fins already and Bixpy can mount to the fin box. Bixpy has 2 fin box mount options. That fin box I glued on can now accept the Bixpy or a standard paddle board fin. Hope that answers your question.

What happens when you go far and the batteries run out? How do you get back? Also, can this be hooked to Aquaglide Kayak?
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 5 лет назад
Mick Carson that obviously can happen, but never has for me because I plan my trips based on the battery meter. The battery runtime is amazing. I also have found it easy to paddle with motor attached. Aqua Glide kayaks have different fun. Bixpy works with only the two most common removable fin boxes. You can add a fin box to the Aqua Glide like I did to the Body Glove Paddle Board.

what board is that
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 4 года назад
This board is the BodyGlove Mariner. However, if you plan to put the Bixpy motor on a board just buy a board that already has the correct fin mount. BodyGlove Boards don’t have the fin box for this motor mount so that is why I had to buy the glue on mount. It makes things easier to just buy a board that already has the removable fin option. I recommend a 5-6” thick inflatable board for best performance. Companies I like are Aquamarina, Airhead Bonefish series, Blackfin, ...and many more have removable fins and are well made. I have link in video description to browse iSUP boards. Just look for good reviews and at least 11ft+ long and 5-6” thick with removable fin.

Interesting but why are these motors so expensive, their range is always very poor and to buy a back up battery to extend the range, will greatly inflate the over all cost to a simply not worth all that money scenario. far cheaper just to buy or make a hand held sail. Then take into account the terrible drag from the big lump under the water line, when you finally have to paddle the sup back to land. Be like trying to paddle into a 20mph wind or dragging a big bucket behind you. I won't bother until the costs come down and the efficiency improves.
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 2 года назад
As large lithium batteries become cheaper the Bixpy company will struggle to justify them at their current price. I absolutely love my Bixpy though. I can completely dunk my motor and battery without any worries. If I do that with a trolling motor I would be in serious trouble.
@squarecracker
@squarecracker 2 года назад
@@KayakDIY My dream is to get the motor and hook it up to a surron battery. In the future it seems like modular batteries will be the way to go. One in your ebike can drop in to your lawnmower, boat, etc. or will work as an array in your truck. Of course they don't float but that's the tradeoff if you want enough juice to cross the ocean.

@KayakDIY Год назад
Yep. It is lower price than most competitors. I still have the original Bixpy. Working well. Battery hasn’t degraded at all and I still get phenomenal runtime. I recently ordered the new J2 motor kit just to compare. This is not a trolling motor. If you flip a kayak with a trolling motor the motor is usually toast and a corroded mess. The Bixpy is sealed and designed to handle submersion. The battery floats and the wireless remote floats. I never have had to replace batteries in the remote….seems like a low voltage wrist watch (just runs forever). This system costs $1100-1200 because it has no competition. No other motor does what it does and certainly not as well.
