I love the 90's ... I was a teenager back then , I loved these trucks when they came out , I remember all these 93 models , the F-150 Flareside Mark iii always been my passion , the Silverado 454SS , the Dodge Ram Sport V8 Magnum , the light trucks Chevy S-10 SS , man it was great era , great cloths , different world ! I miss it ALOT
@@runningkirkwa2934 I was 17 great era man , great great era we used to get excited when we saw New Years models now it’s all the same overly done , all the best brother
Watching these videos makes you realize just how impressive it was for Chevy to have a 285/300 HP V8 in the Camaro/Corvette in the early 1990s. That was unheard of at the time...especially for under $30K.
My neighbor still has his 94 black Lightning which he bought new. The only thing he added was an upgraded stereo and a spray in bed liner. It's in remarkable condition and still sounds mighty good. Though at 210k it might be time for a timing chain, he has never had the engine apart. At 150k the torque converter ballooned, so at the same time he had the AOD freshed up. The only thing he said that has nagged him was typical Ford front suspension/alignment problems and the thing eats brakes. Still, it's nice to see it out and about.
Wow ... I love ford trucks ( I love all the trucks Chevy , Dodge and Fords from that era ... It was fierce competition among the 3 pickup companies back then )
Like we say here in Australia ..."it's a ford mate what else you've expected ?" Bless Henry Ford ( I've got my 79 F-1OO Ranger XLT 351 Clevo , 750 Holley ,C6 auto , 9 inch LSD sway bars so sweet ) fords are tough and affordable and always became legends
Ford power steering whine at 2:20. They always had the loudest steering pumps, but I couldn't quite remember that they were loud new. Now I see that they were.
Much like the 94/95 Mustang Cobra engines, these trucks were under rated (HP)from the factory. Besides the GT40 heads and intake, these engines were solid lifter cam style vs the more "modern" hydraulic lifters found in most of Ford's small block V8's. Factory headers, and much better rear end gear ratio then the normal F150. Much like the Mustangs of that era, a little bit of wrench turning and tuning and a whole lot more power could be found. People were begging Ford to drop this engine into the new 94 Mustangs, but for whatever reason Ford flat out refused to put a 351 into a Mustang, and when they finally did, it was only 250 cars you needed to complete a special race driving school course to get one and it was only for one year, last year of the windsors. These trucks were special to Ford fans, because the true gearheads knew the 351 was capable of real big output, and the truck didn't weigh that much more then the big cars that were just on there way out at the time.
they are complaining about the exhaust noise? um hello it's suppose to have that noise it's a sports truck what do they want it to sound like a 4 door sedan going down the highway.
Has anyone else noticed how big the interior of these newer trucks are now. Even the regular cabs are huge. The interiors have grown along with Americans waist. I'm from Missouri in the US and I've seen it first hand. In and older truck, you would be lucky to have two cup holders that would hold a can of soda, now cupholders will hold a 44oz soda. Who needs to be on the go with more then a half gallon of surgar.
I am truck driver here in Australia , there's this forklift driver in my work , he's from Missouri , his name is Mitch , he's the coolest guy and cool accent .
I've owned this truck and an 83f150 5.0 with some mods, an 96 5.8 and 2009 5.4 all with upgrades and I am amazed that my 2.7 ecoboost is the fastest out of all of them with no exhaust noise. Engineering is incredible.
EcoBoost is still trash engine and I don't care what anybody says my little 4-banger saves on MPG and it has got a turbo so it gives me great results over 30 year old pickup trucks from the past no 4 cylinder EcoBoost will ever be a 5.0 at anyting and let's not forget their 6.2 is out there and much newer engines that came out that'll destroy a little EcoBoost
I like the second Lightning (1999-2004) better because it looked like a more proper looking muscle truck. This one (though well remembered and respected by muscle truck fans) looks too much like a work truck with some muscle car accents tacked on. But don't take my word for it, it's just my opinion. The station this Motorweek road test aired on KCTS9 by the way, is my homebase station from where I live not far from Seattle.
I never even knew at the time that these first Lightnings existed until the second gen (my FAV) came out in ‘99. Lady Gaga drives one almost like this one.
That's blazing fast compared to the other trucks in that time frame and especially to the ones made in the mid-late 1970's that were choked to the gills with smog equipment. Of course nowadays it's expected of a truck to have a low 7 / high 6 second 0-60 time.
krzrrazrrokr I had a red 99 short bed R/T when I was in the service. Built up to 408 stroker, sold it in O4 for 01 Lightning. I miss that R/T, could light up at will any speed under 50mph
This truck from factory thay say 240hp wen thay actually put out about320 at the crank in about300 at the rear wheel in if u get rid of cats in egr valve in smog pump in emission control u get arond 400hp so this truck was a grate truck
I hear ya mate , I love it , it looks awesome with the bumpers same Colour code of truck ! I love these trucks looks from the rear , like the rear windshield and tail gate , or when they drive past you , it has this great look seeing from behind specially when bumpers are same colour .
Saleen made 371hp out of basically the same engine on their 1994 S351 model(non-supercharged). Some pieces were enhanced, and different cylinder heads employed, but it's basically the Lightning shortblock as a foundation.
+titanicwhiz I have one that's completely stock. Come to Florida and I'd be happy to show you. It's a '95 and has a major dent but original all the way to the original paint. BTW it's 7.1 0-60 and 14.5 quarter. Come and see!
ah, a doolie dodge is not going to compete with the Chevy or ford trucks they should have mentioned a more reasonable model dodge truck. did dodge then come out with a actual viper truck with factory viper badges and all
