@Markus: Halbach array only exists for surface mount motors.. the segmentation is to reduce the magnet eddy current loss.

Really nice video Vladmir What is the reason of such a low copper fill? Does the real motor have that much free space for more copper or it's just the number that makes the phase resistance match, and in the real motor it's actually filled quite a lot due to insulation or anything else? Or it's functions of a cost optimization, that mount of copper is enough for the performance metrics they wanted and reduces weight and cost? Thanks
@motorxp
@motorxp 3 года назад
Yes, the real fill factor of the motor is close to that value ~30%. I think it is some limitation of the winding tool.

It would be nice to show magnetic flux path at maximum torque to see how saturated is iron. Also middle part of rotor is shifted. Is it to improve cogging torque? I was also wondering if it is possible that middle part of rottor has no magnets to increase reluctance torque for better field weakening or better, totally different pattern. Is there way to check it or does someone torn it apart? thanks
@motorxp
@motorxp 3 года назад
I can send you the flux path at maximum torque to your email address, please send me an email to 2v.kuptsov@gmail.com. The rotor is made of 3 part to reduce cogging torque, but I do not think that anybody would do the middle part without magnets.
@alessandromarfoli1939
@alessandromarfoli1939 4 года назад
Is the rotor geometry exactly from the drawing of the model 3? The small anisotropic structure of the rotor, consisting in the small dimples on the rotor periphery are created on purpose for magnetic reasons or are they done for manufacturing reasons to simplify the rotor laminations's alignment ?
@motorxp
@motorxp 4 года назад
The rotor dimensions are taken from the lamination sheet after rotor stack assembly tear-down. We think that small dimples on the rotor are to reduce cogging torque.

Hi ! Why when I do the ratio between Output mechanical power and Input electrical power I don't find the same value of Efficiency in Magnetostatic Analysis ? (at 12:40 for exemple)
@motorxp
@motorxp 2 года назад
Hi! Thank you for your question. We found that most stable way to calculate efficiency is: Efficiency = OutputPower/(OutputPower+WindingLoss+IronLoss+MagnetLoss) = 100%*182206/(182206+16555.3+411.4+15.3) = 91.47% This is because the input power value calculated as an average of instantaneous power p_input=ia*va+ib*vb+ic*vc is greatly influenced by time step. Moreover, the input power does not include iron and magnet losses, as they are calculated in a post-processing stage.

Can a similar motor with external rotor can be made?
@motorxp
@motorxp 3 года назад
Thanks for your question. IPM rotor is rarely used as an external rotor. One of the reasons, I think, is reduced saliency ratio - inner rotor allows higher saliency ratios. Nevertheless, you can try to design your own motor with outer rotor using Tesla motor as a prototype and see how it goes. All you will need is to request a free trial license for MotorXP-PM on motorxp.com/downloads/

Hello, ı think there is a mistake . In 12:45 , You compared D-Q analysis with Magnestostactis analysis. But the D-Q results are for 1000 rpm, while the magnetostatic is for 4000 rpm. Is this mistake?

@gabrieloforti
@gabrieloforti 2 года назад
@@motorxp It seems that you define the linear model from the 'nominal coercivity' (optional), right? But, there are magnet grades which this is in the non linear part of the curve. More appropriate would be setting with 'residual Inducation' and a calculated 'relative permeability'. This is the case for the N52 grade in this simulation. Do you know what grade is used in Tesla Model 3?
@motorxp
@motorxp 2 года назад
@@gabrieloforti Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are right, there are some magnets for which the knee falls on the second quadrant of BH curve (including N52). We will make the corrections. We don't know which grade is used in Tesla Model 3, we just guessed.
