Royal Purple is what most of the Manufacturing plants use for heavy equipment in my state. The stuff is fantastic and it doesn't get the attention it needs
I've been a fan of Motul for a while and been using the 8100 Eco-lite oil in my G2 Raptor for the last few years. I think I may have to give RP a try given these results. Eager to see the other results. Appreciate you doing this.
Keep in mind that the Royal Purple HPS is not licensed API motor oil. Which is required by FORD to keep your engine warranty. Royal Purple does have available API licensed oils. Just an FYI... See video here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XkHyU0wUL5c.html
Keep in mind that Blackstone is somewhat rudimentary and doesn’t have a way to calculate organic friction modifiers which is why Motul doesn’t have any
Thank you for sending all these oils off to get tested... It is definitely helping me to make a conscious decision on which oil I should run in my '98 Ram 1500. Granted, the truck is a beat around town truck, but I wouldn't be afraid to jump in it and drive cross-country. Will be much better once I fix the front end on it. Ball joints could use some love and I know at least one of the outer tie rods could stand to be replaced, but I'll probably do both tie rods and both upper and lower ball joints. I want the thing as bulletproof as possible for as little money as possible... I know, oxymoron AF, but still. Appreciate you taking the time to do this for us.
Very interesting results on the Motul vs Royal Purple. My former employer has very strong opinions on the subject of motor oils and various other things. I had known him for many years prior to going to work for him. When I once went into the store to pickup motor oil and a filter I couldn't find Castrol GTX. I was given a treatise on how Castrol GTX was utter garbage. I had run Castrol in all my vehicles for years without any issues. After going to work for this man I entered into a discussion on different oils. I asked if he was familiar with Royal Purple. I was informed that Royal Purple was trash. He runs Motul in his wife's VW Jetta. It's refreshing to see that Royal Purple tests better than Motul. In a former life I was a SAAB mechanic and later parts manager. My former employer has an 87 900 8 valve. He claims it has 500k miles. I asked what was wrong with it. He said the engine was locked up. The SAAB 8 valve engine had a high nickel content cast iron engine block with a forged and nitrited crankshaft. These engines were virtually bullet proof. It takes a real masochist to destroy one of these engines. "Mr. Motul" managed to accomplish this difficult feat. He was a big Valvoline fan. The parking lot of the store has many dead vehicles around the building. I've come to the realization that this individual isn't as savvy as he claims to be.
Thank you for taking me to school on oil analysis on vitamins and minerals. Royal purple hps does seem to be very good all around premium protection oil as you explain it! Great comparison video!
I love your review! I always thought RP is the best after I used it and I now I use RP XPR and WOW what a huge difference! I can actually feel more power!
This is very relevant to my interests as I've been running 8100 eco-nergy in my STi for about a year now but haven't had the chance to send my recent samples to Blackstone. Hopefully what happened to my beloved Rotella doesn't happen to the Motul, but if it does, RP should be a good substitute.
I have been running royal purple in my ecoboost. I'm not a fan boi it's just what's been readily available. The couple vids you have done on royal purple makes me feel better about going that route. I have grabbed motul and Mobil 1 multiple times. Can't wait to see what Schafer offers I have thought about going that route or kendal problem is local availability. I greatly appreciate it rich. 🙏 happy new year
Very impressed with the Royal Purple results! I have used it a few times in the past and now I think I might give it a go in the ATV's and Cycles to see how they like it. Seems to have plenty of zinc for the cams on those engines. Just wonder how the internal clutches will like it. Great video Rich, really enjoy these oil testing vids! 👍
About 4 years ago I switched from mobil 1 in my Honda crx to royal purple hps and gained about 2 mpg, and the engine sounded quieter. Very good oil, and good review on your part.
Royal Purple for the win 💪💪 I know every engine and situation is different but I recently started using RP HMX 5w30 in my ol 08 F150 and it made a significant difference in the amount of valve train noise. I had used Mobil 1 since it was new thinking it was good oil ...... I know I know.......lol And also with the Mobil 1 I would lose about a quart in between oil changes I assume to burnoff but I have not experienced that with the Royal Purple. Only thing , it's pricey! Thanks brother! 😎👍👍💪💪🤙
I have a h3 Hummer 245 thousand miles on it. Runs like a champ. I tried royal purple and it does make my truck run smoother. But what worries me the most is in the beginning for a while. The oil light comes on at stop until i mash gas. Over times it stops and never comes on again. Other than that. No issues. Yes I've replace pressure switch and resealed engine being it's an old truck. Hardest which i paid someone to do was front crank seal and rear main seal. 😂. Nevertheless I've been using Pennzoil Platinum Ultra syn. I listened to you and my babe aka truck runs great. But i want to use Royal Purple again being i got all those seals done. I know the best two oils are RP and Pennzoil. Nevertheless random thought this video just reminded me if i should use Royal Purple for a little while. Then switch back to Pennzoil
The engine is worn out. My tercel is the same way, when the oil is still cold and at idle. Oil light comes on and goes off when you accelerate. once the engine is warmed up, its fine. I use pennzoil platinum in it was well.
@@Terror1Void i don't think my engine is worn out. I had that checked and everything is fine. It never did any of that. Until i put RP in there. Any other oil that never happens. That's why i stopped using it. But being a preventative type of person. I knew if i wanted to keep it long. Might as well do a reseal so that was one less thing i had to do. It had nothing to do with the RP. I just thought it was weird. The moment I used RP. Oil light came on. I'm going to try it again. And if the same thing happens again. I'll know ok yeah RP might just be too thin or something. Lol.
I’ve been running RP HPS since it came out around 2014 in my 1989 Ex Texas Trooper car that now has 296,000 miles on the Short Block. It barely uses no more that normal. I noticed at first the motor seemed quieter when running.
Gonna run HPS in my next OCI. I believe I’ll either try Amsoil XL or Redline after HPS. Gonna get all of them analyzed and see what my truck likes the best.
I use Motul in our racing karts so I really was hoping the Motul eco oil did better than it did. It looks like the "Eco" part refers to them cheaping out on the additive package to me.
I noticed the calcium was out of API SP spec on the Motul, then I realized it was only API SL. I guess for a motorcycle or older car that's fine, but any modern car with GDI could have LSPI issues with calcium 1500+.
At first I thought Motul must be using a better base oil and that is why they passed on the Molybdenum, but then I noticed very similar flash point temperature for both oils. Motul 430 Fahrenheit, RP 420, indicating a similar type base oil. So indeed RP looks like a stronger oil. Similar quality base oil but stronger additive package. One caveat though, more elements in the add-pack does not automatically mean better oil as more Calcium more Zinc other elements means more competition with oil for metal surface adherence. Too much and the oil cannot do its job. I personally prefer cheaper oils and more frequent oil changes. Have used nearly everything in the past in my Subarus, but slowly over the course of many years I came to prefer cheap but within specs oils that are changed more frequently. My favorite is NAPA's home brand full synthetics oils. Similarly Kendall's GT-1, available at one time in 99 Cents Only Stores on the west coast for like $2.99 a quart. I like Kirkland COSTCO oil also. I understand more and more people prefer longer drain intervals and gravitate towards fancier oils. Great comparison video. Thanks.
Bro nice video. Bro Royal purple XPR is even better than HPS. I tried all 3 royal purple and car runs much better on XPR than on any other oils I tried but its expensive.
Lol my Chevy malibu is in the process of throwing a bearing, so far driven 7,000 miles on HPS. Haven't changed it to see if the shavings are still around. Gunna wait till I give a f*ck
I will have that tested next batch, every time I send one of these off it cost me 250.00 To get these oils tested The oil testing videos are not getting that many views so I have to be sparing when I test things because as you guys know money doesn't grow on trees and I'm just not getting the revenue from those videos like I should be since I'm doing the work that I'm doing and it's expensive to have this stuff tested so I can't test everything that everybody wants me to test all at one time or else I'd go broke
I recently had TSB 22-2326 performed on my 22 Escape to replace the bushings on the rear brake calipers. As I am backing out of my garage and down the driveway this morning as it is raining, I hear the long loud moan again. Apparently this fix didn't work out too well. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
Of course I have a picture of the bottle it was just a general recommended Ford freaking spect oil it could be old it could be old data but I'm not worried about that that's not what I'm after here and I'm not trying to complicate this process more than what it already is I already put in enough money time and work to get this information out there and I have people that focus on some of the smallest b******* which shocks me
@@FordBossMe get mad all you want. It helps when comparing oils to know what they are. The motul names are confusing. The one you tested is closer to Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30 than the rest of the standard API oils you’ve tested. There’s nothing wrong with it, just meant to fit a different specification.
I mean if you were running something like a high performance amount yes not regular oils that amount of zinc is not going to kill the cat people come on here saying that dumb stuff all the time and they don't do what I do in this field there's not enough zinc in today's oils that can kill the cats
@@FordBossMe I didn't think anything of it either, until i seen they sell zinc only additives seperate. Although it does show for classic cars, so who knows. I haven't seen any tests done, just going off of things i read. But maybe you're right. Although they do sell that hot shots or whatever it's called as a non zinc replacer. But again who knows.
