This is a quick update to yesterday's video shong how i made a pirates chest lid using a moulding toolpath. I asked if there was an easier way to extend the curve and you guys came through for me. I show the 2 tips I received that will make all our lives easier in future projects. I hope you enjoy.
Cheers
Peter

If you want to carve on the lid use a 3D tab and size accordingly (say, 1/4" oversize). I would use a moulding toolpath to hollow it out (do this first, you don't want to do an intricate carving and mess it up when hollowing out)

Thanks Graham, hollowing out the lid first is a good tip or holding it after might be a bit of a nightmare. Cheers Peter

Peter, you could do the molding toolpath then make model from preview and go back to add the skull and crossbones, save as stl and your friend could cut it out with vcarve pro. Many ways to make this

Am I doomed to grow fat eating humble pie Dan? How do you make a model from the preview?

After you do your preview, go to the model menu drop down, select create componet from create componet from toolpath preview. Not your fault peter, aspire has a variety of ways to do things, never knew about the boundary offset

Thanks Dan. I don't feel so bad about this one as I was right that you do need to make a 3d model to do the engraving but making the model from a preview is brilliant. I can think of a few instances where this could be useful. Thanks once again Dan.

Was wondering why you didn't use the extend command. Boundary option is good option too.

Something tells me I will be using both a lot more in the future. Cheers Peter
