Helping my mate Russ with making a pirates chest lid. Moulding toolpaths are your friend and is a great way to do 3d without having 3d software.

Great job as usual Peter! Easy for me to understand. Now I know how to make the lid for my pirates treasure box, do you have a tutorial on How To Fill Said Box? Thanks!

You have moved to the big time with Aspire and the help from Vectric. You deserve the support from such companies. Your work has been consistently helpful for many years.

Hi Peter. Love your musical efforts. Very interesting video and it made me wonder if one could create a dome using this method, perhaps by creating an arc in the X direction and one in the Y direction. Any ideas about that? Also, could one do V Carving on the resultant surface? If it can be done, I'd love to know how. Cheers
@cncnutz
@cncnutz 5 лет назад
You can easily create a dome or even a dish but you can't engrave on it s it isn't really a modelled surface. Cheers Peter

I believe you get more control creating your lithophanes with Aspire. What material are you using for your lithophanes? I know your no expert at Aspire and to be honest I like that, because it brings up different ways of doing things. Great video.

Thanks James, your probably right but I'm using PhotoVcarve because I have it and because many can't afford Aspire but PhotoVcarve will get them up and cutting. It was the first Vectric software I bought. The plastic is Cast Acrylic and is white.

Im doing the same thing, but want to remove the bottom side as well leaving a quarter inch thick lid. How do i do this
@derekjenkinson8014
@derekjenkinson8014 Год назад
Two layer job, on the reverse layer I would invert the curve and adjust the z to get the inside curve.

Hello Peter, now that you have made the lid, can you now add a pattern to the top?
@cncnutz
@cncnutz 5 лет назад
Not with this method Scott. You would need to model it in 3D. Cheers Peter

Hello Peter, you can use the extend tool to extend the arc... quick and painless...
@cncnutz
@cncnutz 5 лет назад
If there is a long painful way of doing something I will usually find it. I will look into the extend tool. Thanks.

Yes you can extend in small increments like this but keep in mind that vcarve does not really extend the Arc... it adds a straight vector tangent to the Arc to the boundary you select for the extension.... little thing but worth mentioning.
@loskop100
@loskop100 5 лет назад
I can't afford Vectric but in Cambam I extrude the arc as a solid and draw a rectangle for a selected shape boundary and get the height of the sides by leveling the top when I turned it over to do the inside. A projected line from the rectangle to the surface gives a toothpath for a bevel cut around the edge. Then while you are at it you can project whatever engraving on the top, in my case it was the entire crew of the Paw Patrol.
@cncnutz

Thanks Loskop. Sounds great.
@loskop100

@@cncnutz I just had another play with it and when creating the solid give the upstand sides a 1 degree slope and the toolpath will go over the edge and down to the table.

Hi Peter. Im a folower of your videos and thanks for sharing all that knowledge. im trying to molding a piece of MDF 1300 x 130 x 12 mm cambered along 1300 mm to compensate a slightly wall curve i have behind a shelve im trying to put on that wall. Can you help me hot to create a toolpath for that propose. )using Aspire here. thanks

Peter, why not just use the Boundary Offset? Set to .125" (half the diameter of the cutter) to remove the lip.
@northotagogolf
@northotagogolf 5 лет назад
That's what I wondered..
@cncnutz
@cncnutz 5 лет назад
I haven't tried it yet but I think the boundary offset will screw up the top of the curve since the cutter would be 1/8 above it. I will test tonight. That said the extend line feature sorts it in 10 seconds. I will do an update. That's what I like about this hobby. There always something to learn. Cheers Peter
@johnbourg3388
@johnbourg3388 5 лет назад
@@cncnutz Nope it doesn't effect the top of the curve. Easy test, set a 1" boundary offset and preview the toolpath. Only the ends "boundaries" will be effected.

a lot of work in addition not precise. Can not I just check the R of the arc in this program? Draw a full write in a rectangle and cut what is sticking out, without measuring and perfect width. Work for about 10 seconds.
@cncnutz
@cncnutz 5 лет назад
There are multiple ways of doing it and mine is probably not the best. I'm told there is an extend tool I should have used so I will be investigating that option. Cheers Peter
@paulreader1777
@paulreader1777 4 года назад
@@cncnutz I am sure the extend tool has done a good job but for those following this with other software it may be better as 666Azmodan666 suggests to create a three point circle using the original parameters whereupon the circle will intersect any new rectangle with the same top centre point.
